i think when we used to point out that a story didn't need a sex scene what we meant was "this story reduces its women to mere sex objects and gives them no interiority so the sex scenes are gratuitous and geared towards the male gaze" it wasn't the sex that bothered us per se it was the objectification of female characters while givig them little to no consequence to the overall story but nowadays people mean "sex is icky and gross and has no merit to ever be portrayed in our arts which should be good and pure and never ever make ME feel discomfort" and it's like. i bet a bowl of unfrosted flakes looks real good to you rn

Finished 7.3, some thoughts on the DT patches under the cut so I don't spoil anyone

I've seen some really mixed opinions on the patches so far but I really enjoyed them overall! Some of the flaws from DT are still there (these writers DO NOT know what to do with the existing scions holy shit) but I think they've done a good job fixing some other issues too. The screentime felt a lot more equal, and I enjoyed what they've done with both real!Sphene and the Simulant/Calyx villain duo a lot more than how Endless Sphene was written. Namely that I actually got to like and feel sorry for Sphene simply by interacting with her and seeing her backstory, rather than feeling like the game is screaming at me to feel bad for her don't you feel bad isn't she so nice here's why you should think she's nice!!! And the Simulant and Calyx really leaned into that creepy vibe I'd hoped she'd have.

Calyx was also a really fun villain in general I felt? When they introduced him I was really hoping they'd commit to him being an irredeemable little shit rather than try and make him sympathetic and I wasn't disappointed. Seeing him terrified of our wol at the end was soooo cathartic lmao I'm curious to see what else they'll do with him.

I am however a bit mad at myself that I didn't see the primal twist coming because it was SO obvious in retrospect lmao I've seen some people complain about the potential Ascian involvement, but the fact that there were a lot of Ascians unaccounted for and seemingly forgotten about after 6.0 was a plothole that was really bothering me so I'm mainly curious to see where they'll go from here.

Also, unrelated to the villains, but I really enjoyed the memories of the departed being restored at the end. It was very touching and fits perfectly within DT's themes 🥹 Living Memory becoming brighter but not as fakely idyllic as it used to be was a very lovely touch.

But honestly my main hope now for 7.4 and 7.5 is that they'll focus on Tural. The patches were almost entirety focused on S9 and I'm kind of tired of it. Tural is gorgeous, interesting and has a lot more untapped potential they could use, it doesn't deserve to be cast aside just because the writers were obviously dying to write their ff9 references... (also I'm tired of the modern aesthetics GIVE ME MY FANTASY BACK). I'm glad they focused on the disturbing aspects of the regulators that was kind of glossed over in the main story but now that it's done it's time we move on. I'm tired of the Alexandrians lol But we'll see! I'm curious to see how the next expac will be introduced (fingers crossed for a Meracydia expac please please please please).

being anti ai is making me feel like in going insane. "you asked for thoughts about your characters backstory and i put it into chat gpt for ideas". studies have proven its making people dumber. "i asked ai to generate this meal plan". its causing water shortages where its data centers are built. "ill generate some pictures for the dnd campaign". its spreading misinformation. "meta, generate an image of this guy doing something stupid". its trained off stolen images, writing, video, audio. "i was talking with my snapchat ai-" theres no way to verify what its doing with the information it collects. "youtube is impletmenting ai based age verification". my work has an entire graphics media department and has still put ai generated motivational posters up everywhere. ai playlists. ai facial verification. google ai microsoft ai meta ai snapchat ai. everyone treats it as a novelty. every treats it as a mandatory part of life. am i the only one who sees it? am i paranoid? am i going insane? jesus fucking christ. if i have to hear one more "well at least-" "but it does-" "but you can-" im about to lose it. i shouldnt have to jump through hoops to avoid the evil machine. have you no principles? no goddamn spine? am i the weird one here?

Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):

“For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.

“But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.

“When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.

“When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”

“This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”

“There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.
