Jaguar the defender
After some time, I return to you with more Prosperine propaganda! Buckle up, because I want to talk about the Council of Nikaea. I will leave the whole debate whether Magnus truly did nothing wrong or not to those more knowledgeable than myself. I am here to share my thoughts on the regular Astartes of the Fifteenth.
I have a feeling that a lot of people who ask seemingly banal questions, like ‘why did the Thousand Sons could not simply listen to the Emperor’s edict? Blah, blah, gingers are soulless anyhow-‘ do not consider the matter from the perspective of the Legion itself. To see the whole picture, I think we should consider the history of not only the Thousand Sons as the Astartes, but sons of Prospero itself.
Prospero was very far from Terra, and thus the Legion was quite isolated. Her cities were created by mutants and psykers that fled the other parts of Imperium in search of a save haven. When they could not find it- they made their own. Because of that most of the planet’s population was made out of psykers, and often they played the most important roles in the society as a whole. Their whole culture was built on collecting knowledge and understanding the Warp, that made their survival possible (referring to psychneuein).
Now, imagine a regular Thousand Son, born and raised in Tizca, in a bright, beautiful and vibrant world where he can study and master his craft. Hearing of the past that plagued the Legion, the flesh-change, and how it almost became their demise, when other Primarchs expressed their desire to simply wipe the whole Legion from existence and all records. But the past is in the past, right? Well… no. Not really. To the last campaigns of the Great Crusade, the Legion was treated with a mixture of uncertainty, fear and disgust in different ratios. Many became frustrated, having given up on ever receiving proper recognition, some, Ahriman for example, still had hope that one day something will change, all shall see the truth about the Thousand Sons. None ever truly did. Because then, the Council of Nikaea happened! The one and only Othere Wyrdmake that have befriended Ahriman came to testify against the sons of Magnus. And the Emperor’s Edict.
I cannot possibly express how much of the Legion’s very structure was strictly connected and based on the Warp usage. It had a specific construction, named by Magnus pesedjet, meaning nine. Not ten companies, but nine fellowships. Five cults that specifically taught and expanded specific talents, usage of deamon familiars, etc, etc. Enough to say that most of the more important Captains of the Legion forgot how to manually clean their own bolsters. Unwise? Perhaps. But that was the reality.
They have fought for the Thousand Sons’ good name for so very long, keeping to their tradition and culture, only for all of that to be taken away by a single edict? People do not work like that. If for their whole lives being a psyker was a significant part of their identity, in a world that wished to take that away from them, they shall cling to it even more! Especially given no explanation. Perhaps thinking it to be another blow to their already rather poor reputation. Imagine the anger, the sense of injustice! The one who has created them as they are telling them to forget who they are. The anger of the Wolves’ first betrayal, when the two Legions just recently made war, hand in hand. That is a lot of anger! Especially for emotional people, and, be frank here, most of them are, at least to a degree.
Thank you if you read all the way through, may the sun watch above you all.

The Order of the Jackal
It is one of my favourite things in the world, to dive deeper and deeper into the universe that currently interests me. I was amazed how the Fifteenth Legion was constructed in the time of the Great Crusade. The Three Red Orders, the five Cults, Fellowships, Sekhmet, the Rehati. You cannot convince me that Magnus’ special ‘rituals’ when conversing with his inner circle does not have its roots in the culture of Prospero, somehow. Every man had his place and his function, as well as symbolic meaning. I am here to spread my Prosperine propaganda, for this world lives in my head rent free for months now.
For anyone who do have their lives outside of fiction, context: The Order of The Jackal was one of the Three Red Orders, and was responsible for management of life and death in the Legion. Thus: training Acolytes, taking care of Dreadnoughts, etc. Often the members of this Order were former Apothecaries, because of their appreciation for life, and generally more compassionate character.

The scribe
A little acolyte
I have spent a lot of time lately thinking on how people of Prospero must have been like and how it affected Magnus and the way he constructed his Legion. There are so many sub groups it can make one’s head hurt. I think they would be obsessed with symbolism of all sorts of things (or it is simply me projecting my own love for symbolism and hidden meanings), with all little snippet of how they look, or in case of Astartes, what they have on their armour. After all, nothing in this galaxy happens without a reason or purpose behind it, right?

I am terribly, horrendously late, but happy Sanguinala to those that celebrate, and merry Slaaneshmas to those that do not. Once more, Sanguinius in the style of French renaissance eats my mind from the inside. Fare thee well folks

I am quite sad I do not have time to paint any of the sketches I make recently, but perhaps it will change soon. Either way, today I have to offer you a little doodle with my boy Seshat.

Praise the Angel
Personally I think that Sanguinius deserves those precious renaissance angel locks. Or perhaps it is my way of recompensing myself all those hours spent on learning art history.

There is a reason why elves fuck everything up in every single universe. I love them tho
I love the whole concept that all the mortals by the late third age have this idea of elves as these serene, calm, wise and peaceful beings. Like at the council of Elrond and the like they all see the elves as inherently great givers of advice with the bigger picture at heart. Imagine if someone from then read a book on the first age. Like Faramir being exposed to Elrond’s records after he leaves for Valinor and thinking are these really the same species? Why are they setting everything on fire? Was the founder of Numenor really raised by these people? Did the calm lord Elrond really hold a knife to that guys throat? They are all completely feral and bloodthirsty and possess no basic judgement skills. Frodo getting to Valinor and being invited to a party at Finrod’s house. Expecting a deep cryptic discussion on lore and feeling out of place among all these dignified ethereal legends. And like ten minutes in people are playing drinking games with knives and fire. Frodo expects Lord Elrond to be shocked at his relatives behaviour but finds him in a knife throwing competition with the former high king. He seems to be winning. He also sees what seems to be two high kings making out in the stairwell. His last hope is Galadriel whose now in an intense bar fight with three of her cousins. Her husband is cheering her on from the corner.
The elves are not actually inherently wise. They just made all the mistakes and learnt from them after about the fifth attempt.

ROBIN HOBB’S REALM OF THE ELDERLINGS >> The Fool The Farseer Trilogy + The Liveship Traders Trilogy + The Tawny Man Trilogy + The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy
You know who I am. I have even given you my true name. As for what I am, you know that, too. You seek a false comfort when you demand that I define myself for you with words. Words do not contain or define any person. A heart can, if it is willing. But I fear yours is not. You know more of the whole of me than any person who breathes, yet you persist in insisting that all of that cannot be me. What would you have me cut off and leave behind? And why must I truncate myself in order to please you? I would never ask that of you.
