Poems for Alex T. (a.k.a Things I wish I could say to someone.)

I finally saw you.

You were there, I felt like I was in dream.

You came out on the biggest stage I've ever seen in my life, not the biggest for you, you've been on bigger.

It felt like a dream.

It felt sureal. It was magical.

You walked out, I could hear the crowd roar, but I couldn't see you. Not at first, I had this giant of a man standing in front of me blocking the view. The view to you. The view I've wanted to see for 10 solid years. The view that made my whole body shake.

I can't put into words what I felt in that moment. I felt at peace, I didn't care about the hundreds of people who were squishing me, who were making it hard for me to breath. Who were there with the same intentions as me, to see you and have a great time. That I did, I really enjoyed it. When I was in the crowd with people who love the same man as me, I felt like I belonged. I rarely feel like I belong somewhere lately.

It hasn't even been 2 whole fucking days since I saw you, and I feel the thing everyone said that you were going to feel. I want more, I want to see you more, i want to be in the crowd of people again, with you merely standing 50 meters away from me, I felt that if I go on my pinkie toes enough to stick my head out from the hundreds of people around me, that I could've even smelled you if the wind blew my way.

I don't know what to say to you, I do have hundreds of thoughts in my head about you, when I close my eyes I see you. I wanted to meet you so bad, you wouldn't even believe me how bad. I just wanted to talk to you and hug you, cause you were the only one there for me when I needed it the most. Literally saved my life, you hear it daily I know, and it's probably worned out, you don't want to hear it anymore.

Alex, it was great seeing you, I thought I was coming with the most important person of my life to see you, but I'm not sure anymore. It feels like we are just trying to hold onto something that is already broken, something that is not supposed to be and it hurts my soul.

Love you. Wish to see you again soon.

yes, you should feel uncomfortable. yes, it must shock you and strike to your core every time this happens. do not let the repetitive cycle of racial violence numb you to the present, daily suffering of our black brothers and sisters. stop writing and glorifying empathy and tenderness if you are not willing to extend that into practice for your oppressed neighbors of color. stand up.
