Reflection: When I first went into this class, I genuinely had no idea what I was doing. Learning to use the software we were told to use felt like learning a foreign language, they didn’t feel user-friendly or easy-to-learn. Illustrator especially seemed difficult since it was a vector software as opposed to a drawing software like ProCreate or ClipStudio (my preferred software for making art). However, with each tutorial, I found myself getting better and actually enjoying myself on quite a few of the projects. It really felt like I was doing something well. It really felt like I was having more of a tangible improvement than I’d seen in some of my prior classes like 2D Design and I hope that my portfolio reflects that. In particular, I feel the project I’m most proud of is the Mask, as I spent the most time on it in and was able to take a great deal of inspiration from a lot of sources that really influenced my art in general in its creation. It really felt like I was able to express myself the most on that project compared to any of my other ones.

Mask Project Reflection
I learned a great deal from the mask project in regards to the use of Adobe Illustrator and in particular, the use of the pen and gradient tools to produce all sorts of interesting effects on my work. In particular, the best use I found for it was in conveying lighting effects and glows through smooth transitions and concentrations of color, as seen with the eyes on my mask. I found this project to be relatively easy in comparison to a lot of my previous projects, as by this point, I was relatively familiar with a lot of the basic tools at my disposal and understood how to use this software to a pretty decent degree. I found that by the end of it, I’d come out with a good amount of practice in producing more organic shapes and that I was far more capable of being creative within the limitations of this vector-based software than I was when I’d first started and had struggled heavily with the animation project of the archer. It’s definitely been a learning experience, to say the least.
