❝ Hold up, wait… I-need-a…I need a break, ❞ the knight panted as he tried to keep up with his companion. He didn't realize how out of shape he was given the amount of walking he does on a daily basis. But the city streets were nothing compared to the uneven terrain of the wilderness - and he was very much a city knight.

At this point in their small journey, Huffman only half questioned why he decided to accompany the other this afternoon. He was always willing to help, anything to get out of the city and able to see the scenery. But on the other hand, he was getting old and it was beginning to show.

Regardless of it all, Huffman collapsed onto his butt and sighed. He definately needed a small break before continuing, ❝ Just give me a moment… to catch…to catch my breath. ❞

How does Huffman feel about Mika receiving a vision while he himself has none? Is he jealous about it?

Despite being happy for his younger brother, Huffman is extremely envious of Mika. And this only feeds into his inferiority complex.

Huffman, like most people, has once dreamed of gaining a vision of his own and to be of more useful to the Mondstadt. But as life went on for him, Huffman came the realization that (1) he was never going to be blessed by the gods and (2) even without a vision he can still make a difference. This is why he over works himself to death, not only to keep him away from his inner demons but also to prove to himself that he can still do the small things for Mondstadt.

He has kinda made peace with the fact he will always be visionless.

But, that doesn't stop the comparisons between the two Schmidt brothers. Huffman has grown use to the criticisms and is happy that his brother doesn't have to bear the burden of 'living up to his older brother'…but that doesn't mean Huffman isn't suffering. It's embarrassing to constantly know that he can barely keep his life together while his younger brother is thriving.

Mika is often away on important expeditions as well as being responsible for important messages between the Grand Masters. He is not only naturally creative, but also has made a living doing what he loves (and has their parents encouraging him since a young age). And receiving so much high praise that overshadows Huffman's own achievements. So receiving a vision just adds to that weight of feeling inadequate.

Huffman is just a stressed out man who can barely keep his life together.

I wonder how Huffman reacted knowing that his little brother received a vision while working with the Reconnaissance company

How long has it been since they were able to meet like thi? Huffman had lost count nor did he want to think about it. The days for him had blurred together all too quickly and he wouldn't be surprised if what felt like years to him were actually a few days. Yet, all that didn't matter. He was here, yet again in another tavern, leaning against the table and staring.

Usually his gaze was on some bard giving their best attempt at a song or on one of the newest bartenders were trying to show off their new flashy moves of pouring drinks. But this time...this time around it was set on Viktor - or his general direction at least.

By the time he caught himself staring was when he finally moved his eyes up and down the other's composure. It was but a few moments before Huffman's lips cracked just slightly upwards and he let his eyes close, chuckling silently in amusement.

❝ Well, someone seems to be in good spirits this evening. What's on your mind, Herr Viktor? ❞ he finally took a sip of his drink, surprisingly probably the first one all night.

❝ Oooof. I think this is a good spot to take a break, ❞ Huffman huffed as he set down the small, but heavy, travel pack and stretched out his arms and back. The two of them had been walking quite a distance in search of herbs as it was time for some restocking this month. With the shade of a tree to cover them as they took a break, Huffman took the time to look around - making sure there were no monsters to disturb them as well as appreciate the scenary.

❝ Been a while since I've been able to venture out like this. But uh...I guess you're use to the scenery outside of the city gates, right Noah? ❞ he chuckled awkwardly as he finally glanced over to see how Noah was doing. After all, he thought it was the perfect time to do some catching up on her visit back to Mondstadt as well as doing a pretty simple task of scavanging in the plains.

It wasn't an uncommon occurance to find Huffman slouched over a bar, rubbing his temples as he tried to process whatever his dear ole Captain was trying to sell him on this time around. Hours of patrolling the streets without too much rest made the days blur together. Things have changed so rapidly that the current talk of the city was about some new fantastical addition…renovations…to the library?

Ah. Something about story book characters and a wolf plushie, or was it a 'Wolfy'(?)…who knows. But at this point, Huffman was thinking he had one too many drinks because somehow, someway, this wasn't the most outrageous thing he had heard.

❝ Captain, ❞ Huffman sighed exhaustedly, turning his head he looked up at Kaeya with a pathetic pleading look, ❝ Please tell me you're pulling my leg and there isn't a talking wolf plush stalking the library. I don't think I can handle that right now. ❞

He stopped himself. Huffman shouldn’t question such a obviously good decision just because Mika was his younger brother...nor should he question his superiors. The knight sighed.

Huffman held his breath as he wasn’t sure how to approach such a situation. Sure Mondstadt was friendly towards all their neighboring nations, even Snezhnaya despite everything, but when it came to the Fatui...ah. There was only so much even a knight as himself could do in such a situation.

Finally letting out his breath, he forced himself to calm down as he did not mean to be so on guard - but how could he not? He was dealing with a Harbinger, a guest of Mondstadt from Snezhnaya.

❝ It’s not becoming of a knight to drink on the job. ❞

It was an excuse, but the last thing he needed was to get tricked into drinking a little too much a spilling things he should not be spilling. Regardless, he placed a hand over his chest as he gave a small bow to apologize for not partaking in a casual drink.

❝ However, I would be happy to treat you to two dandelion wines. Courteously of the Knights of Favonius of course, or if that is not to your liking, then from me personally as an apologize for not divulging in such luxurious tonight. ❞

Huffman was more confused than anything else. Although he was happy to sign it...he was also wondering why Teucer had one in the first place. Sigh. It didn’t matter too much. Teucer seemed happy regardless of such injury.

The knight crouched down as he pulled one of his pens from his supply bag - always having one on hand in case he needed it for documentation. He offered a smile before extending his hand for Teucer to put his cast in so that Huffman may sign it.

❝ ...of course Teucer. Now how did you get injured? ❞

Huffman nodded his head as he walked alongside Eula as they were making their way towards the city. Although Huffman himself was hardly apart of the reconnaissance team, he was in charge of the medical supplies...and as such it’s best to be close by should someone get injured within their borders.

❝ I’m glad to know my services aren’t urgently needed with this much supplies coming in, and I take it that Mika is doing well upon his return? ❞

The knight cast his gaze over at Eula, watching her movements to see if he could piece any information out of her despite her being one of the harder captains to read. He hadn’t spoken with his brother too much after his return, but that was just how it was in his house hold...always working with Mika out in the fields and Huffman in medical ward.

Huffman's smile grew a little wider at the mention of his brother.

❝ Ah-ha. Yes, it's been quite a long time since he was home. To which I am grateful Grand Master Varka was courteous enough to allow him to come home for Weinlesefest. He was probably homesick. ❞

The knight chuckled as he shook his head to stop himself from getting too happy over having some family around this time of the year.

❝ Ahem. But I haven't seen him yet, come to think of it. Probably staying away from the crowd as usual...but I'm surprised you haven't see him running about? He kinda sticks out like a sore thumb with his vibrant colors like yours... ( a pause ) ...or are you waiting for me to introduce you to him? ❞

Huffman raised a brow, looking at Venti with a questioning look. He knew that Mika was the center of attention for a lot of reasons and was probably hiding away. So anyone who Mika wasn’t obligated to report to...he’d stay clear of for the moment.

“Heya Huffman, I little choko bird told me your baby brother is back.” Timid Mika was seen by Venti heading off to report to Eula. Venti wondered if Mika will be staying in Mondstadt or returning to the expedition, but judging by the gossip between the knights it sounded like Varka was probably in Snezhnaya by now.
