camp counselor!jj

for my fic ‘just for the summer’! i went to camp for 10 years so a lot of this is just personal experience lol, but i’m loving this au especially with summer right around the corner!

camp counselor!jj who's always barefoot, constantly. did he even bring shoes to camp? tells all the younger kids his favorite snack is wood and always nods when they ask if he's serious. all his staff shirts have a rip or are stained with tie dye.

camp counselor!jj "don't tell my boss" is his catch phrase everytime he bends a rule, which is...often. ends up giving the "don’t worry, middle school gets better" speech like three times a week, always ends with a fist bump and a pack of skittles. calls the camp golf cart 'the beast' and drives it like it's a getaway car.

camp counselor!jj the campers love him. has about thirty friendship bracelets on his wrists made from campers (and one very special one made by you) and still keeps the keychain the younger girls made him on his backpack. he's all over the place, but he listens, remembers weird facts, hypes up the shy kids. the parents are nervous about him at first, but by the end of the week they’re like “thank you, jj. now our son wants to be a pirate.”

camp counselor!jj he’s the kind of counselor the kids remember when they’re grown, the kind they write letters to after, the kind that made camp feel like home. and he has no idea how much of a difference he makes.

camp counselor!jj he's the athletics specialist, you're a village head. he'll radio you and ask you to change to a channel no one else is on just to tell you some pointless story or flirt with you. he walks by during lunch and smacks your clipboard out of your hand just so you’ll go after him.

camp counselor!jj who's entire cabin of twelve year old boys picks fun at him for liking you. every ten year old girl in your village is obsessed with getting you two together. they write your names in hearts in sidewalk chalk like it’s their mission from God. when you both show up to dinner in matching tie-dye (unplanned, but they don’t believe that), they absolutely LOSE it.

camp counselor!jj who thinks sneaking around is the best and funniest thing in the world. you absolutely weaponize your relationship during dodgeball and tell him you'll never speak to him again if he gets you out. you hook pinkies under the table at staff meetings and he rubs his thumb over your knuckle while everyone argues about who gets their off day on mondays.

camp counselor!jj he fake proposes with a ring pop in the middle of lunch while 'love story' by taylor swift plays and your campers don't stop talking about it for three days. he’ll carry your clipboard and his. tells you “you’re killin’ it, sunshine. i know it doesn’t feel like it, but you are.” and will literally juggle twenty kids if it means giving you a second to breathe.

camp counselor!jj 100% cries a little at the end of the summer. doesn't want to leave, doesn't want the kids to leave. starts the morning like “we’re almost free, baby” but then he's weirdly quiet when parents start showing up. is instantly depressed when all the kids are gone. already saying “we should come back next year” even if he swore this really was his last year.
