I hope Tezzeret and Mm'menon get gay and weird about it. He needs a rebound after the messy Jin divorce.

very quick magic thoughts turned into a whole thing :D. I'm not super deep into magic lore so this could be like. super wrong.
I posted about this over on bluesky but the monoists from edge of eternities really feel like a Jace cult given what we know about his fate in tarkir dragonstorm. That being; he fell into the meditation realm chaos while it was collapsing. The wording of the last story gave the implication that he was trapped somewhere where he could reflect for a long time. I'd argue that he was sent back in time in the meditation realm, which would allow him to enact a new version of his plan using the Monoists as a vessel.
Tumblr media
Seeker and the Well feels like an apt description for the events leading up to the climax of tarkir dragonstorm, as Jace's plan was around finding the meditation realm to enact his plan to overwrite the multiverse by making an illusion real
The Zero Point feels very similar to the description of the meditation realm, given that the meditation realm the center of the planar multiverse and is connected to every plane, vs the zero point being the centre of "point prime" and reflected in every supervoid.
INEVITA being known as the Next Eternity rings reminicient of Jace's plan to "reboot the multiverse" and him calling his plan inevitable feels like something that lines up with his self confidence as a character. Additionally the religion being described as a death cult would also match up with one of the things that Jace's plan to reboot the multiverse was implied to do; that being essentially kill everyone already around.
Tumblr media
Jace's character is also brought up later on in one of Tezzeret's notations in the document. This feels like a deliberate nod to his character and pointing him out to the reader.
Tumblr media
There's probably a bunch more that I've missed given that I'm not super caught up with all of magic's lore but it feels like Jace is meant to be the immortal faller here.

going wild thinking about the use of Rocky Road to Dublin in Sinners. It’s a really tight microcosm of a lot of the film’s themes just by itself. Credentials: I’m a retired Irish dancer, I went to worlds and the whole bit. My family is appalachian and I grew up on bluegrass
It’s played on a banjo, an instrument with origins in West Africa formally invented in the US by enslaved people (and then popularized in Irish music through Irish American immigrants, largely in the South and Appalachia). Even the instrument telegraphs an attempt at cultural exchange morphing into theft and exploitation, especially because the history of the banjo has been purposefully obscured by white people
It’s got a strong down beat, making it the musical opposite of the swung blues sound (emphasis on 1/3 as opposed to 2/4). The scene is clearly meant to evoke klan imagery, and giving it this marching feel ABSOLUTELY contributes
It’s in 9/8 meter (with some mixed—it’s a uniquely weird song), making it, traditionally, a slip jig. Historically, this is a light shoe dance for women only (he’s dancing hard shoe in the movie) meaning that Remmick’s attempt to reclaim his own culture has been botched, obscured, and lost as he’s been alienated from it and co-opted into the symbolic hive of American whiteness/cultural orphanage/cultural patricide.
The song itself is about a guy cutting a shillelagh (a walking stick/club with a folkloric purpose of warding off evil spirits) to protect himself on his journey to Dublin, but winding up using it against a few Englishmen mocking him for his Irish accent. It’s a parallel to exactly what Remmick was not able to do—protect himself from monsters, and protect himself from colonization. It also highlights that this number is being used to threaten violence against the leads
It’s such a clever combination of inverting swing/jazz sounds and showing ways Remmick is missing the point. Since he sold his soul for power, comfort, and conformity, he’s only able to access a shadow of his culture, while misunderstanding and misrepresenting major pieces of his own traditions. Even his attempts to culturally “share” through the banjo is plowed over by his use of it and Black bodies and voices for his own individual pleasure and as a threat of further violence. It’s such a smart pick

Hey this is Ixhel and Vishgrath!
went to my best friend’s house last night and saw a little plushie dog and plushie cat that had been sewn together down the middle into a two-headed chimera. I said, “did you do that?” she said, “yes, I saved them.”
turns out at her old job when the last two plushies hadn’t sold and became deadstock, her boss told her to cut them up and throw them out. so she cut them each in half, preserved their heads, and then rebuilt them together.
cannot stop thinking about the way these little plushies were approached with the instinct of a Vampire or some sort of ancient god. “Let me save you [turn you into a monster].”

Here's a painting I made for the ImagineFX art challenge "Mystical Meets Machines".
The theme was too intriguing to pass by - especially after I got the idea of some unicorns grazing by the remnants of an ancient, mechanical dragon. Someone in the past were keen on acquiring the great powers of a dragon for themselves, leading to a bitter end. Now it has rested peacefully for centuries, becoming part of the landscape.
Lots of fun painting this one, especially all that moss!
Photoshop, April 2024. And as always, no AI used.

While wild house dragons are considered pests for their felonious attraction to fine jewelry and silverwear, many a rich socialite these days can be seen with their domestic cousin in her pocket, protecting her valuables and looking fashionably adorable.

I have also thought about how something like that would look like lol
Keep us posted, it sounds very cool!
Not to get anyone's expectations up too early, because this is in a VERY BASIC brainstorming stage, but I'm wanting to create an ecology and evolution-inspired RPG system in which progression is at least partly represented by biological (or mechanical) grafts.
Its working name is Fleshweaver.
