‘‘I’m sorry, have you seen a hound about this big, blacker than night and immensely handsome?’‘ He would ask everybody, describing his Animagus form with a genuine sense of pride, with a prank carefully crafted with the other boys in mind. It was a simple one, to occupy their mind for just the couple of hours between lunch and a movie.

she rolled her eyes softly, while her gaze was still down and occupied, before she sighed and looked over to him once more, ocean eyes holding his own. “So– you want me to look in my own bag for sparkling water? What makes you so sure that I’d let your lips on my water in the first place?” brow raised, alecto tilted her head to the side, still not allowing her eyes to drift as they usually would. “is this an excuse to talk to me? Have I been neglecting you?”
‘‘Oh. If you don’t want to borrow me your water, I’m sure you could go to the shop next street and get me one. And a straw too, please and thanks,’‘ he condescended her with faux innocence, as if finding a solution to her problem. ‘’A strong yes. I miss you, Ally.’’ He didn’t even know if somebody even called her that for a nickname. He found it ridiculous, though he still delivered the line with mock softness.

“my every day boys? do I have a different one for different weather? like one for when it’s raining, another for when it’s sunny? I do hope I have one for snow or i’ll be down on my luck.” sarcasm rolled from her tongue, yet her expression was completely deadpan. it was frustrating now, but perhaps that was his plan, frustrate her to the end of her wits and make her crumble. alecto carrow rarely fell to her knees for any man. “oh you mean the stories? here i thought you weren’t one to brag.”
‘‘That’s only two boys,’’ he frowned lightly, amused by what terrible sense of humor Alecto had. Maybe that was the joke itself. Some spoke humorous words jokingly and some were humorous because of the words they were saying. ‘’I was trying to be nice. I’m not sure you managed to fool one boy, at least.’‘ Innocent, he shrugged. ‘’The stories.’’ A chuckle escaped from between his lips. Then, he posed innocent, going for a different approach. ‘’My, my, Miss Carrow, they’re not even half true. I’m a virgin.’’

“ sure i don’t have to , but i wanna ! ” sybill answered , not responding to the obvious jokes . “ a serious answer would be wonderful , ” she added with a slight pout . she wouldn’t normally be getting a present for sirius but with all that had happened with regulus recently sybill felt like she ought to . the black family situation could best be described as complicated , but sybill was a strong believer in the importance of family .
He appeared confused for a moment, but of course he was feigning it. ‘’Everything I say is a Sirius answer. Black humor to it, too.’’ He, however, made an effort to think of something, for her sake only. ‘’I believe that you’ll get a vision that tells you exactly what I want, better than I could. I might not even know the right present for me. But anyway, Sybill, whatever you’d get me is probably the right one. You know best. You do see into the future.’’ He was gentle and supportive all through his small speech. ‘’The real question is on me, the mortal. I don’t know what to get you back.’’

bas so badly wanted to play along, to fall into old patterns and old comforts. sirius had been like another brother for rabastan just a few years ago, but trust had been broken, abandoned and sirius had run off, burned from his family tapestry, disowned. it was difficult now to see him happy and whole, bas had always been told that just wasn’t possible. and so being around sirius was confusing and painful and difficult, avoidance was so much better for them both. “well, now i’m betrothed that won’t be my responsibility anymore.” the words came out before he thought about them.
‘‘Congratulations are due. Is it your ugly cousin? What was her name again?’‘ he frowned, unable to recall, yet the ghost of a smile crept onto the corners of his lips for plenty reasons: the interaction itself, the reminiscence of how ugly Rabastan’s older cousin used to be and a couple of their jokes on her, still remembered from back in the days. ‘’It’s not over, Rabastan, my dearest. You’re just on your way to becoming the husband of someone closely resembling your old, drunk, ugly aunt.’’

she laughed, she needed some more fun, throwaway fun with no strings and no stakes. “cruel? no. a true favor to not allow it to live in solitude. loneliness can be just as cruel as karate.” she meant nothing by it.
‘’I’m sure. You think you’re even doing the snowman a favor. Unjust still,’’ he teased her with an indulgent smile showing. Sirius made a point out of being deliberately tactless and blunt when he wanted to, only to break some Black rules, so he didn’t hold back from what came next, although his tone was gentle and matter-of-factly rather than judging. Madeline used to be a close friend, then a close person to him. He was slightly concerned, which was rare. ‘’Unjust solutions don’t just cure loneliness. Do you cure your loneliness with Amycus Carrow?’’ Then, with a face of feigned offence, he shrugged. ‘’What? I hear gossip. I walk on corridors.’’

It was just Sirius, and unless the other boy was about to burst some Zonkos product, or weird spell on him it was probably safe, “Sorry,” Benjy mumbled, flushing a little with embarrassment as his breathing began to return to normal. At the question he looked up, raising an eyebrow, “Okay, er–” The apparent proposition came as something of a surprise but he found himself agreeing before he could really think much about it, “Sure yeah, I can do that,” He glanced around at the crowd, “There’s an alley a couple blocks over, usually pretty hidden and all if you want?”
‘‘You will not kidnap me, will you?’‘ he spoke, and it was one of those moment in which it was blindingly obvious how he was part of the Black family. Aside from his usual Sirius joking tone of voice, there was an inch of royal blood and condescension that he couldn’t control and couldn’t erase. A crystal clear laughter took place of it, however. ‘’Lead the way. Your rules, not mine.’’

she simply peered back at him before placing another book into her bag. “yes actually, I am.” she hummed, fake smile plastered across her features. she knew he was mocking her, but she didn’t much care. Usually she’d spend her time ignoring his words and simply allowing her eyes to take in his form, objectifying him blatantly, it had become something she enjoyed doing– but it seemed alecto had changed her tune slightly. her eyes were back on the work at hand without even such a glance over his body. “do you need something, Siri?”
‘‘Good thing you’re modest.’’ The nickname didn’t as much as scratch the bottom of his nerves, only intensifying his smirk and bringing forth a skeptical frown at the bad comeback. ‘’Perhaps. I’d very much like some sparkling water. Do you have some of that too among the many books you’ll never read?’’ He doubted his own words, but a tease session was a tease session.

‘‘His birthday was so close to Christmas that our parents naturally assumed he’d be a gift from the ancient wizards. Granted, after me, they knew he couldn’t be worse.’’ His narration was declarative, bold, all-knowingly, as he introduced himself in the conversation between his little brother and another student in his year. He tapped the third person on the back, as if to comfort them, ‘‘Twenty-third. Try again in a week.’’ Regulus’ question was cute. Sirius showed his teeth, smiling. ‘’I’m sure a bit more excited than you at least. At least I’m not seeing Walburga first thing on the New Year. But speak about yourself. I never let you and I decided this is my present for this year, delivered a week early, not unlike those early greetings.’’
Oh Christmas, the season of the suck ups…and those who genuinely enjoyed the holiday. Another person passing by shouted a birthday greeting, and Regulus sighed, pulling on a smile. “It’s not ‘til next week, actually, but thank you.” Turning back to his conversation, he offered a smile. “I’m sorry, this.. just… it happens a lot. Anyways, you excited to get out of here for a while?”

‘’Aren’t we all?’’ Sirius smiled knowingly down at the cat now sitting comfortably in his lap, patting her a few times lovingly before imitating a dog bark with the accuracy of, well, a dog.
“ pudge! you - pudge! ” ted, who had been chasing his lovingly overfed cat, practically screeched to a stop before he ran into the individual that pudge had now dubbed his newest resting spot. “ i’m sorry, that’s - he’s very cuddly. and disobedient. ”

‘‘The perfect mix between beauty and brains, are you not?’‘ Sirius mocked the basic charm the girl was taking such pride in, all masked as a compliment, for they usually spoke the language of blatantly fake pleasantries to each other, maybe for some sort of twisted inside joke. ‘’Congratulations on mastering this skill.’’ His simper was benevolent, though lying.
“I charmed it.” Alecto hummed, placing yet another book into the small bag. “this way I don’t have to choose between what books I want to take home for the holidays, I can just take them all.”

her eyes held mischief in them, and she understood a certain lack of sibling affection could certainly play a role. she both missed marlene and dreaded being around her. “a fake snowman would be a lot more fun to both build and then karate chop into oblivion, if you’re interested?”
Sirius was already smiling in an accomplice manner. ‘’What a cruel God we’d be, treating our creation that way. But we should. I haven’t fought snow in a year, I believe.’’

‘‘I mean, I once took a picture of my brother, who pretty much resembles one, but that’s the most of my expertise with creating or interacting with really cold figures. I don’t know. Why? Do you have a proposal?’’
“you’re kidding, you’ve never made a snowman the old fashioned way, with your hands and not your wand?”

Six years into the past, Rabastan and Sirius had been best friends. It was odd to face each other after as much as a lifetime has passed without much communication. Too much has changed. Sirius didn’t even know how to speak to him anymore, so he did it in his normal language. ‘’Yeah. I noticed. Far less incestuous great aunts and drunk uncles. Where’s all the traditional fun of being forced to take your eldest cousin for a waltz?’’ Lighthearted and joking, he carried on.
“yeah, sure, it’s nice. nothing like the manor for the annual christmas gala but hey, they made an effort.”
