Not a day went by without a new carcass laid in rotting solitude at the edge of the road. Buzzards and vultures called it dinner. The compassionate, a poor victim of circumstances. Sheriff labeled an omen of things to come. Nothing is certain in Wrath anymore, but death and dirty deals. He crossed the macabre landmark on horseback, and envisioned the next hit's face on it. Or his own. He knew better than to underestimate.

The steep price was not a matter of hubris nor overcompensation. Whoever called for this imp to be struck down had to know of their reputation. So the pipeline says - this one is not to be trifled with. Hence why the next mogul in line, pockets lined with blood money, saw it fit to have someone else do their dirty work. Some or other drivel about threatening business. The reasons hardly ever mattered to Sheriff. Long as it's no unsuspecting innocent's head, the offer's as good as taken.

It took days to track the bastard down. Not the first hit called on him, for certain - he knew how to move in a manner so elusive and almost paranoid, leads went cold within mere moments of being found. The last had Sheriff entering hostile territory. Bad blood flows like rivers here, as does the gray matter of unwelcomed passersby.

Uncertainty reigned as to this 'Striker's plan. Whether he was aware of his pursuer or not, and if taking him this far deep into the heart of an opposing outlaw gang's corner of the sandbox was a stupidly suicidal ploy, or in actuality a genius strategy. Like he hoped Sheriff would back down, fearing the consequences of trespassing upon these grounds.

Far from it. All those zeroes'd make a man willing to jump off a cliff if the chances of survival were remotely manageable.
