All this research made me create my own collage using all the images of research I had to point out what I have researched and found out to do my presentation. (Like a little map)
I’ve learned a lot from all the things I have researched it was a bit hard for me in the beginning as I was triggered from one step to the other and it felt like a never ending que but that’s just how I felt and I like that fact that I had space to chose what I like about the video as well as learned how everything is connected but also realized how creativity can be inspiring to go an other step as well as that old is new and new is old as well as recycling a way of inspiration shows .

3d Stereoscopic GIF
Tumblr media
The reason why I thought about the 3d Stereoscopic GIF is because it reminded me on the moving collage (Hockney) which showed an image from different perspective in this case it wasn't a video but a picture taken with a four camera lens.
NOTES:   on a stop and go, blink ( light on / of )
Tumblr media
THE NISHIKA CAMERA N8000
was advertised to create 3D holographic photos
It was used back in the 80s as a fun camera to create things like these:
Tumblr media
Now there use of the camera got recycled and found a lot of usage on Instagram boomerang and in music videos like ‘ mura masa ‘
the other way of making use of the camera is to use the pictures on the filmstrip put them together in a program e.g. photoshop premise pro and animate them into a gif boomerang
The effect of the camera rotating from the person in frozen time bullet time
Tumblr media
FOR YOU : hold your finger infront your eyes and now start blinking left and right and it will seem like your finder is moving from left to right now imagine it with four eyes / lenses moving from left to right

Dadaism and Surrealism
What is dadaism ?
Dada was an artistic and literary movement that began in Zürich, Switzerland. It started as a reaction to World War I and the nationalism. Influenced by other avant-garde movements - Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism, and Expressionism - performance art to poetry, photography, sculpture, painting, and collage appeared in dada.
Dada's aesthetic was marked by the mockery of materialistic and nationalistic attitudes, influenced a lot of artists in many cities, including Berlin, Hanover, Paris, New York, and Cologne, who then generated their own groups. The movement blurred by the establishment of Surrealism,
“but the ideas it gave rise to have become the cornerstones of various categories of modern and contemporary art”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dadaism is one of the modernist moments in art happening 1916.
-It was anti art a part of society that was anti society
-it ignored traditional aesthetics
-it revealed the hypocrisy in meaninglessness within everyone including themselves
dada = anti dada
designed to be misunderstood
What is surrealism ?
The Surrealists was someone who wants to channel the unconscious to unlock the power of the imagination. Undervalue rationalism and literary realism, and powerfully influenced by psychoanalysis, the Surrealists believed the rational mind repressed the power of the imagination, weighing it down with taboos. Influenced also by Karl Marx, they hoped that the psyche had the power to reveal the contradictions in the everyday world and spur on revolution. Their emphasis on the power of personal imagination puts them in the tradition of Romanticism, but unlike their forebears, they believed that revelations could be found on the street and in everyday life. The Surrealist impulse to tap the unconscious mind, and their interests in myth and primitivism, went on to shape many later movements, and the style remains influential to this today.
Tumblr media
The work of Sigmund Freud was profoundly influential for Surrealists, particularly his book, The Interpretation of Dreams (1899). Freud legitimized the importance of dreams and the unconscious as valid revelations of human emotion and desires; his exposure of the complex and repressed inner worlds of sexuality, desire, and violence provided a theoretical basis for much of Surrealism.

Collage
WHAT IS COLLAGE ?
Collage (from the French: coller, ‘to glue’) is an assemblage of multiple objects, images, and ideas – a union that transforms a selection of parts into a new work in its own right. Collage is, by definition, a pastiche of multiple sourced ideas fused to create something new.
Types of collage
Collage was subsequently attached to the Dadaist and Surrealist movements. Cubomania, for example, is a Surrealist method whereby an image is cut into squares, which are then reassembled automatically or at random. Collage was also widely used in Pop Art and Nouveau Réalisme. The following are some common categorisations of the medium
Collage is a sum greater than its parts. It is a collection of minuscule slices of the whole wide world, chosen randomly or carefully because […] they speak in some way to the artist’s soul. They transform into a brand new statement or aesthetic.

[…] collage allowed artists to interact with existing materials – anything from newsprint and magazines to maps, tickets and propaganda and photographs – to rip them apart and reassemble them, creating visually dynamic hybrids.

This is a collage I made inspired by Annegret Soltau who uses black thread to connect her images into a collage.
I made this piece of work to underline her post traumatic childhood without parents growing up in Germany with her grandma. In this collage I wanted to underline how she had to hide all her pain in her head which made her the person she was (careening a blurry story about her parents ) and her own identity

Dexter Navy AWGE collective
Tumblr media
Is a Young film-maker and photographer. Dexter Navy  is one of the directors behind Red Bull Music Academy's five-part web series Paris Now which looks beyond the world of music to explore modern-day Parisian culture. But who exactly is this Dexter? The West Londoner has been part of the i-D family for more than half a decade now, taking music and culture snaps and developing into one of the most sought-after photographers around. After a trip to Los Angeles a few years ago, Dexter, who shares his time between Paris, London and LA these days, got together with some of hip-hop's biggest names and has since shot Travis Scott, M.I.A (on the set of her  Double Bouble Trouble video), and Theophylos London. He's also filmed some blockbuster music videos.Dexter's love affair with Paris – from his favourite film La Haine to his obsession with its architecture and lifestyle – means he's the perfect choice to tell the story of Paris culture. But here are a few other reasons Red Bull Music Academy got him onboard.

What I really like about David hOCKNEYS work is that you can see a movement within his collage as he is using different angles in each picture to create a moving image which is really stunning I was able to see a resemblencbe between David Hockney collage art and couple scenes within the Asap x Skepta ( Da Shine ) video in (2:04).
Its incredible to me how creative and easy that thought is to create a movement on a picture which also make me think of making a prototype drawing in a little book creating a “storyboard” moving imagine in a book  FLIP BOOK
I also realised how he zoomed into couple sections of the image to build in depth and movement
The first picture is called Mother and it is an image of David Hockney’s mother which he he has rearranged to show different sides of her face. The picture was was taken in Yorkshire, England and created photomontage images between the years of 1970s and 1986.
Looking first at the picture you just see a person from different angles now knowing the title you will assume that this is his mother which now gives us a more sentimental feeling towards it. Each separate photograph within the image is a realistic depiction but the composition of the image is not realistic. But using Cubism in which perspective with a single point of viewpoint and use with simple geometrics shapes, interlocking planes and later collage. FormThe photograph is in colour which helps to convey emotion as we see the pink in her cheeks which shows life. The lines that are represented are the outline of each photograph which help to block each picture and helps to form the stylistic features of cubism. The contrast is neither high nor low as there is a difference between light and dark but not to an extreme level.  The shapes used are a range of rectangles and squares which adds variety as well as focuses on some facial features.ProcessThe photograph was taken outside, during the day time. Natural day light was used to light up the image. This is clear as there is not much harsh lighting and the skies appear to be grey. The only way in which that the photograph has been manipulated is through the use of composition.   This was done to make the image more interesting MoodThis photograph immediately made me feel inspired due to its interesting composition.  This made me feel like this because I have seen this picture before and I have wanted to do something similar to this.

Who is AWGE?
To find out more about who made the video and where the inspiration is coming from I saw in the beginning of the video a title saying AWGE but what does AWGE mean and who are the people behind it ?
Well to be honest at first it wasn't really easy to understand, as I thought it was one face behind that name, came out it is a collective behind it which was build through A$AP Rocky’s secret cabal of artists, stylists, and creators.
People:
Rob Gallardo -Creative Matt Henson-Fashion Hector Delgado-Music Shane Gonzales-Design Ian Connor-Curation Kamil Abbas-Creative Hidjifilms-Video Dexter Navy-Video YGA-Director Bladi Corniel-Photographer Ben Baller-Jewelry Wally Sajimi-Tech Lynas/Frans-Producers
“ Its a place for all inspired people born in 2014 to create authentic connectivity, solutions and content for fashion, music, film / TV and lifestyles industries”
Their visual aesthetic inspires now a lot of young people.
“In this sense, it’s a testament to the collective’s desire for secrecy that even whilst consistently putting out high-profile content, AWGE has managed to continuously shroud itself in mystery. We reached out to a few members of the crew, but got the same reply: “The first rule about AWGE is you don’t talk about AWGE.”

https://www.nssmag.com/en/fashion/12109/a-ap-rocky-and-his-crew-launch-a-new-site-for-awge
Photography
(Gallardo) Kimi Selfridge who was credited as the masterminds behind the project, together with Gallardo taking the lead on creative direction and Selfridge as responsible for much of the installation’s photography and design work.
Tumblr media
Selfridge says: “I made each collage by hand with various materials, including photographs shot on 35mm film and Polaroid film.”

Looking at Gallardos photograph I see an inspiration connection from David Hockney using photography collage as an moving image.
Film
In October 2016 A$AP Rocky released the AWGE-directed short film “ Money Man” The film, was in a partnership with Red Bull and a contemporary reworking of the cult French film La Haine, shot frequently by  A$AP Mob collaborator, Dexter Navy, and featuring London grime artist Skepta. “The short film was AWGE flexing its creative muscle, an exercise in cross-discipline expression.”
youtube
La Haine is “inspired by cinematic classics including Mean Streets, Do the Right Thing and The Battle of Algiers, Mathieu Kassovitz's LA HAINE is arguably the most incendiary, provocative and prescient film to emerge from the '90s. Starkly shot in black and white to show a Paris not on any tourist map, the film deals with France's intolerance towards outsiders, following Vinz (Vincent Cassel, Irreversible, Ocean's 12, Mesrine: Killer Instinct), Hubert (the magnificent Hubert Koundé) and Saïd (Saïd Taghmaoui, Hideous Kinky, Three Kings), three young men trapped in the Parisian economic, ethnic and social underclass. Sensationally premiered at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, LA HAINE saw Kassovitz rewarded with the Best Director prize and subsequently went on to win three Césars (including Best Film). Marked by its unapologetic brutality and vérité style, LA HAINE acted as a compelling wake up call to Europe.”
youtube
COMPARISON
What I really like about the short film money man is that the concept behind it is connected with the french film La Maine you can see the usage of black and white which gives us a classic cinematic feeling which also reflects the contrast between rich poor, life death( here the scorpion) and hope ( here the butterfly )
A taste of death buying it - eyes turning black
selling to get out of the cycle of poverty, sadness and death even though death is the outcome ( cape diem >< live the moment in the circle) .

Why did I chose this piece ?
youtube
The reason why I chose the video of
 >> ASAP ROCKY X SKEPTA - PRAISE THE LORD <<
is because the first time I saw it my mind was blown away. There is a lot of motion graphics involved for example the flats moving up and downing the background, along with the artist who is in the main focus in the middle (2:00). The transition from one view into a different perspective (1:48) as well as the slowed down timeframe (2:04).
What I also really like is the whole concept of using the comparison between London and New York, which also shows how similar both cities are in there own way using sometimes a line in the middle of the video showing both sides (both cities) but also connect as they use an image that builds up one middle to both sides (e.g 1:36).
