Sharing some news..
Dear Students,
I wanted to share some news with you. Santa Clara University has awarded me a PhD in Computer Science. During this process, I also earned two patents as first author, and published research internationally. It's been a great, and fun journey!
I wanted to share this with you to motivate you to pursue you own degrees, careers, and to "move on" with your life.
IMO All of you should be eager to leave SJCC as soon as you can, and to forget about me even sooner! SJCC is a stepping stone. It is not the final destination for you.
Focus on your goals. Your goals are the priority.

Dear Students,
I wanted all of you to be aware of my policy on AI tools in my classes. I hope this is helpful.
Take care,
-Gabriel
Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools
Since all coursework is authentic (my original creation), students may use AI tools under the following course rules.
o Students are wholly and 100% responsible for the work they submit.
o Students are not allowed to blame AI for the work they submit.
o Whatever work a student submits is the students work, and graded as such.
o Students should be mindful of how much they are learning from AI and other resources (tutors, friends, internet, et cetera).
o If AI tools or any other tool or person, helps you learn more, great.
o If AI tools are not helpful for your learning, do not use them.

HEADS UP: Students should plan for Fall Classes Now, not Later...
Dear Students,
This is just a friendly heads up.
Our department Faculty met last week, and I have a good idea of which courses I will teach in Fall. So, I wanted to let you know a few things.
My courses will fill up very quick. So, if you wish to take another course with me, you should start to prepare for registration now, not later. Clear any holds, meet with your counselors, or whatever else you need to do... do it.
Once registration opens you will want to register ASAP on Day 1. If you end up on one of my wait lists, it is simply very unlikely you will get into my courses. Apologies. Students dont drop them, so the wait lists dont move.
The courses I will very likely be teach in Fall and my recommendations are:
FA25-CIS-084-101-CH Java Programming (Easy class. Good class to take after 1st python course)
FA25-CIS-059-101-OA Object Oriented Programming (Medium/Easy level class. Good to take after any (1) programming class. Class is taught in Java)
FA25-CIS-55-101-OA Data Structures (Medium-level class. Take this after you have 2 or more programming classes under your belt. Class is taught in Java)
FA25-CIS-025C-101-OA Advanced Python Programming (Advanced class. Suitable if you are "good" at programming, or you come from industry, of you have 2-3 CIS classes under your belt already)
FA25-CIS-087-101-OA Comp Systems and Architecture (Advanced class. It's a hardware class, but assignments are in C++ and Assembly language. You should have 2-3 programming classes under your belt, and prior experience with C++ helps a lot.)
I hope this early heads up helps! And, I hope all of you have an amazing, and smooth semester! :)
Have a great week!

Logging in to SJCC and Canvas
Dear Students,
As many of you know, the college will change its login/authentication process for all system over Spring break. “All systems”, includes Canvas.
Due to this…
Be sure to try to attempt to login during spring break.
Make sure you set up a secondary backup for authentication, like your phone number, in addition to using the Microsoft authenticator app to login.
If you have any trouble logging in, do not contact me. Contact the SJCC IT department. I can’t do anything to help you, but they can help you.
Good luck! And, I hope this extra info helps!

Graduating soon? Finishing a certificate?
Dear Students,
If you’re graduating this Spring or Summer, or finishing a certificate, students have to petition to graduate. And it is a process! And you need an appointment to do this!
Deadlines are coming soon. Contact your counselor today to learn what you need to do.
The counselors asked me to let students know... So, contact your counselor directly for more info.
Good luck! And congrats on finishing!

Online tutoring & In-Person tutoring
Dear Students,
I turned on "Net-tutoring/Pisces" as an option now in the Canvas menu. Look for it in Canvas in the main menu option list.
I honestly did not realize it worked... but Andrea (student) let me know it does! So, now you have it! Thanks Andrea!
It appears SJCC students have TWO options for tutoring.
Online via Net-tutoring/Pisces Canvas menu.
SJCC tutoring -- which are SJCC students, many of which are my ex-students who received A's in my courses.
Two options is better than one! I hope this helps!
Have a great semester! :)

Professor job performance review
Dear Students,
Just a heads up
My supervising Dean, Dean Stevenson, will be sending a survey to you for my job performance review.
Please keep an eye out for the survey, as it will be sent to your email (and come from a student worker named Alex Cheng) . It would be great and very helpful if you can send feedback.
For CIS-084 java programming class, the survey will be done in person during our lab on Tuesday night.
Have a great day, and good luck with the rest of the course too! :)
