Eddie Munson x Fem!Reader oneshot
Tumblr media
Eddie is a bit of an apologetic softie at first, Fem!Reader is more angry - Angst to fluff to smut, I guess? So minors dni for the naughty content 👀 Set in a timeline where Vecna and The Upside Down are just D&D stories for the kids and Hellfire, and Eddie has actually graduated from Hawkins High. '86 indeed, baby! No use of Y/N or OC names, just in you in the third person.
word length: 4.8k
CW: bad language (I mean, is it an Eddie fic with no swearing?), smoking, drug use mention, dirty talk, heavy petting, foreplay and protected sex (always wrap it up!) - f receiving & m receiving, dom!Eddie I guess a lil bit?
"You got a light?"
You were leaning against the fire escape door on your break at the local convenience store, just sparking up a cigarette when you looked up at the voice speaking at you. You held out your Zippo at Eddie who walked over, leaned into the flame, and lit the cigarette between his lips. You clicked the lid closed and slid the silver lighter into your jacket pocket. Eddie brushed past you and sat down on the wall next to the fire escape. He looked at you with puppy dog eyes and patted the space on the wall next to him. Taking a long drag and exhaling, you gave a small nod and silently accepted his invitation to join Eddie.
"What brings you here, Eddie?"
He seemed to shift uncomfortably in his place, unsure of what to say.
"Just driving by, thought I'd pop in and say hi," he lied through his teeth. "I know you said it's boring as tits on Thursday nights, sooo I thought I'd come over,"
"Uh-huh, sure," you exhaled and flicked the ash from the end of your cigarette. "C'mon, man, why are you really here?"
Eddie took a long drag. His feet dangled only a couple of inches away from the floor and he didn't take his gaze off his sneakers when speaking to you.
"I... I just wanted to say I'm sorry," he sighed. "I was an ass. An absolute fuckin' ass. I didn't mean to upset you at all,"
"Well, you did. And I'm more than upset. I'm fucking pissed, Eddie. I have never been so humiliated in my life. What were you thinking?"
You could tell that stung. Eddie picked at the loose threads in his ripped jeans, not sure as to where he should start.
"Honestly, I wasn't thinking. And it's only after I said what I said that I realised it was too late. I want to make it up to you. Please. I hate seeing my best friend like this. Especially when it's because of me,"
You could hear the pain in Eddie's voice. He did sound remorseful. There was a painful silence between the pair of you as you both tried to think of what to say next. All you could hear was the sound of you both taking drags of your cigs, flicking away the ash, and the breeze making the shop sign creak around the corner.
"Okay,"
If anxiety was a person, it would definitely be Eddie at this moment. He finally lifted up his head to look at you.
"...Okay?"
"Okay. You can make it up to me,"
He breathed a sigh of relief, a small smile spreading across his face. He jumped down from the wall, put out his cigarette, and stood in front of you.
"Before you tell me what it is I need to do to make up for our thousand years of friendship, can I just please have a hug? Fuck man, I've been eating myself up about this for a couple of weeks and I've been a nervous wreck thinking that you wouldn't even speak to me any more and I've been biting my nails to shit 'cause I'm thinking the worse and--"
You cut him off by giving Eddie a big bear hug. His arms wrap around you softly and then begins to tighten his grip around you, as if he is scared of losing you again. He leans his head into your neck slightly, getting a small smell of your perfume. You pull away from the hug and hold his hands lightly.
"You can start making it up to me by giving me a lift home after my shift tonight, alright? I finish in about half hour if you wanna hang about for me,"
You could see Eddie's eyes glisten a little from tears in his eyes, which he quickly rubbed away.
"Yeah, sure. I need to pick up a couple of snacks and another 6-pack anyway. See you inside?"
"Yeah, see you inside," you squeezed his hand softly and watched him walk to the front of the store. You took a deep breath and ran your fingers through your hair before making your way back inside through the fire escape door.
Eddie was roaming the aisles already when you got back behind the counter, arms filled with Cheetos and pretzels, and a 6-pack of beer hanging from two of his fingers. You smiled to yourself as you could see it was his usual choice.
'And if I remember correctly, he's gonna walk down the candy aisle and fight an internal battle - Sour Patch Kids or Whoppers? And he'll always do the same thing...'
Eddie approached you at the counter and placed everything down.
"Couldn't pick between them again, huh?" you smiled at him.
"Look, one day I'll choose one for definite but until then, I get both. Both is good anyway, sweetheart. Get more snack choices during the munchies," he flashed you a cheesy grin. He also asked for another pack of smokes as you rung up his items on the till.
Your boss came out five or so minutes later to let you finish your shift early - 'You've done a helluva load of overtime lately, get yourself home' - so you walked to the van with Eddie. You both hopped in and he drove back to the trailer park where you both stayed.
You were just about to hop out of the van and thank him for the lift home before he stopped you.
"Do you wanna come inside? Maybe watch a couple of films with a joint like we used to?" he asked softly. His voice quivered slightly, scared of rejection.
You thought about it for a moment and you could instantly see the dread on Eddie's face for even asking. The falling out had clearly eaten him up badly.
"Just lemme get changed and I'll be over in ten, 'kay?"
You saw him breathe a sigh of relief and he nodded at your question. You both got out of the van, he went into his trailer and you into yours. You slipped out of your work uniform and into some comfy clothes which was usually a band t-shirt and some leggings. After a quick refresh in the bathroom, you headed towards Eddie's trailer where you could see him waiting for you at the door.
"After you, milady," he bowed as he held the door open for you. You laughed at his gesture and planted yourself on the sofa, making yourself at home.
"No Wayne tonight?" you asked. Eddie's uncle Wayne was always so sweet and had kept an eye on you when your parents were out of town when you were younger.
"Nah, the old man's working the night shift. Probably won't be back until like 8am," he replied passing you a beer he'd opened for you. "Look, I just wanna apologise again. I really hate how much I upset and embarrassed you. These past couple of weeks without my best friend were the absolute worst in the world and I don't ever want to go through that again. I'm so sorry,"
Eddie had sat with you on the sofa and held your hand tight during his apology.
"I missed you too, Eddie. It felt really weird not hanging out with you all the time, y'know? I accept your apology, just... Don't do it again," you winked at him and he playfully punched your arm to break the tension. "Right, so what's tonight cinema showing at Munson Movies?"
"I got A Nightmare on Elm Street to watch this weekend," he ran to put the tape into the VCR and turned on the TV. He grabbed his beer and sat next to you on the sofa, almost throwing himself into your lap. He pressed play on the remote and got comfy. You'd already made yourself comfortable in your usual spot on the sofa - curled up into the corner, cuddling one of the cushions, and one of the blankets covering up your lower half.
About 20 minutes into the film, Eddie reached into his discarded battle jacket for his joint. After lighting it and taking a couple of tokes, he passed it to you.
"It's not a strong one, don't worry," he said whilst exhaling. "I purposely didn't use my strongest stuff 'cause I knew I'd be watching a scary movie tonight. Didn't need to make myself any more paranoid than I already am,"
"One, two, Freddy's coming for you..." you teased. He playfully hit your arm in response.
He scooted over closer to you so that he was leaning against you, so you put the blanket you had over the pair of you instead. He took the joint from your fingers and lifted his arm up to place around you, signalling you to scoot into a cuddle. It was normal practice for the pair of you.
You'd been best friends since kids and grown up together in the trailer park, been through all the shit he had with his parents and hid him in your bed fort when things were going awry at home. When his parents were no longer on the scene and Wayne stepped up to keep an eye on Eddie, you stood by his side when he got bullied for being different from the rest. He took a bit of a darker path than you at one point and got heavily into drugs and alcohol, and began selling weed and pills in high school. He never forced you to do any of it. You never wanted to try the hardcore stuff, but Eddie offered you weed one night when you had a really bad week at high school. So you made it a little bit of a tradition to share a joint together over a movie at his place.
You felt at ease. Things seemed to be back to normality. A slight high, a good film, beer, snacks, and good company. You ended up resting your head against Eddie's shoulder and he instinctively rested his head on top of yours. His arm that wrapped around your shoulders had slipped down slightly and his hand rested on your side, his fingers stroking up and down lightly. You let out a small content sigh.
"This is nice," you whispered.
"Yeah," Eddie whispered in response. "I've missed this,"
There was a small pause and you could suddenly feel some tension, but didn't know if it was good or bad. A little bit of fight-or-flight kicked in.
"Can I ask you something?" he asked. You sat up to face him, nervous as hell.
"Y-Yeah, sure,"
"Okay... Firstly I just wanted to apologise again for what seems like the hundredth time. I don't actually think I can apologise enough, really. But if I don't say this now I think I might regret it for the rest of my life,"
"Eddie, you're making me nervous. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm okay," he then cleared his throat. "So, we've been friends for like, forever, right? And I was scared to say this 'cause we did fall out before and I don't want another fall out. But for a long time now, I think I've come to realise I have feelings for you. You've been there for me every step of the way during my shitshow of a life and never turned your back on me. And when we had that argument and we didn't see or speak to each other these last few weeks, it really put into perspective for me... I can't see my life going anywhere without you by my side. I like you, sweetheart. Really fuckin' like you,"
You were blushing hard. You never thought you'd hear Eddie say anything like this.
"So what I wanted to ask you was... If... If you felt the same way at all? About... Me. And it's okay if you don't, like I'd totally get why. I can be a bit of a fuckin' douche and arrogant and--"
"I do,"
The room fell silent. The movie had finished and all that could be heard was the static coming from the TV. I don't think either of you could believe what you said.
"W-What?"
"I do feel the same, Eddie. I just didn't want to say anything 'cause I was so worried about ruining what we had. I like doing this with you and I don't want to be away from you again. So yeah, I really fuckin' like you too,"
You were holding each other's hands at this point, staring into each other's glossy eyes. Eddie's thumb rubbed the back of your hand and you couldn't tell if it was to soothe you or him at this point. You let go of one of Eddie's hands to cup one side of his face, stroking your thumb across his cheek to catch a falling tear. He then lunged at you and held you in a tight embrace. Both of you couldn't keep back the tears now.
"Don't leave me again please, baby," he spoke against your shoulder.
"I won't, I'm here. Always," you whispered back to him, placing a soft kiss against his temple.
You both pulled out of the embrace to look at each other, only to realise your faces were only inches apart. There was a slight hesitation at first but Eddie made the first move and leaned in for a kiss.
His lips were soft just like you imagined, and a lot more gentle than you had originally thought. He placed his hands on your waist, rubbing up and down your sides. You mirrored his loving touch by placing both your hands on either side of his face, helping to deepen the kiss. Eddie slid his tongue across your bottom lip, silently asking permission to get a taste.
You both wanted, no, needed to be closer to each other. You adjusted yourself on the sofa so you could climb into Eddie's lap and straddle him, wrapping your legs behind him. He let out a shallow breath as you wrapped tightly around him, so it was his turn to mirror you by wrapping his arms around your body to hold it closer to his.
Things started to get a bit more frantic as hands roamed over each other's bodies, up t-shirts and gripping onto skin for dear life. You slowly began to grind your hips up against Eddie's, shocking the guy and making him release an unexpected soft moan. This made you smirk and want to hear him moan again.
"Huh, we playing that game?" he flashed a devilish grin. "I see,"
He bucked his hips up towards you this time which in turn made you make an almost identical noise. He laughed and then began to kiss your neck, and you couldn't stop the gasps escaping your throat. Hearing you like this sent Eddie wild. He seemed to find every perfect spot that made you moan with pleasure and grind more against him, feeling himself grow beneath you. You ran your hands up his t-shirt and gripped onto his shoulders, your nails making small indentations in his skin.
He kissed further down your neck to your collarbone, and all of a sudden licked all the way up to your ear, giving your lobe a quick suck and a small nip between his teeth. Your eyes practically rolled into the back of your head and you let out a noise that checked all of Eddie's boxes. You dragged your nails down his back in response, leaving red stripes from top to bottom.
He grabbed your hips and laid you on your back, your legs still wrapped around his waist. You began grabbing the hem of t-shirt and lifting it up.
"Take it off," you demanded.
"Magic word?" Eddie cooed as he kept holding the material down.
"Fuckin' take it off, please,"
"Good girl,"
'Good girl'... That made your stomach do back flips.
He lifted his t-shirt over his head and threw it over where his denim cut-off jacket lay. His tattoos were now fully on display and you traced them lightly with your fingertips. But you weren't distracted for long as Eddie swept back in for another deep kiss. His hips bucked into yours as you got back into grinding on one another. His soft lips left yours again to leave a trail of kisses back down your neck and collarbone. His hands had gone under your t-shirt and he was holding your bare waist.
"You can take mine off if you'd like,"
"I'd love to, sweetheart," and with one swift move, your t-shirt was off and with the ever-building collection of clothes. Eddie's eyes lit up as he realised you being in your comfy clothes meant you didn't wear a bra under your t-shirt.
His lips continued down from your collarbone to your chest, leaving a soft trail of little kisses as he went. He cupped your breast in one hand and licked your hard nipple in small circles. Soft little moans left your agape mouth which only spurred Eddie on. He began to suck your nipples with tiny intervals where he'd quickly give them a nip between his teeth, making you release short, sharp gasps. Once he was done, he continued to leave a trail of kisses down your body and stopped at the waistband of your leggings.
"May I?" he asked in a whisper. You nodded. "No, I need to hear you say it. May I take them off?"
You gulped at his demand.
"You can take them off,"
He took no time in doing as he was told and pulled down your leggings to expose your underwear. Again, discarding the clothing over his shoulder to the pile. He leaned back to take a full view of you. There you were, sprawled naked on his sofa in just your lace black panties... Just for him. You grabbed his hand and pulled him back down for some more kisses. You loved the feeling of his bare chest against yours.
He moved down to your hips, laying out his kiss trail from bellybutton to one hip to the other and down to the material covering you. He scooted further down the couch so he could get a better angle.
"Look at you, aren't you a dark horse?" he kissed the material that covered your entrance. "Do you wear sexy underwear like this all the time?"
He tried sucking at your clit through your pants. The thin material was the only barrier between you and his tongue.
"Please, Eddie," you pleaded at him, hips gyrating against his face. "I need you to taste me,"
"Seeing as you asked so nicely..." Eddie slowly pulled down the lace, exposing your lips which were already getting nice and slick from his teasing. "Just for me,"
He gave your slit a lick from your entrance all the way up to your clit, a manner of noises came from you which only fuelled Eddie's fire. He paid attention to your clit by running circles around it with his tongue, and slowly started to trace his fingers at your entrance. Every so often, he would suck lightly on your clit and made you squirm with pleasure. Eddie had eventually slid two of his fingers inside you in a slight 'come hither' position, setting a rhythm that he kept his tongue with too.
You had run your hands into Eddie's hair to help keep him in place. Every single second of this moment was perfect and you didn't want him to move away from his position. You heard and felt him moan whilst eating you out and the vibrations against your clit sent shivers down your spine.
"Fuck, Eddie, can you moan down there again? It felt so good," you asked between gasps.
He did as he was told and showed his appreciation to your cunt by lapping it up and moaning between sucks, thrusting his fingers at a good pace. He began to pick up speed as your moaning was a sure fire way of telling him you were close to the edge. Both of your moaning went back and forth until you felt yourself release. You let go of the tight grip you had on Eddie's hair, bringing your hands up to move your own hair out of your face. Eddie came up from between your legs, giving a kiss to the inside of your thighs. He wiped your essence away from his lips before coming to give you a big kiss.
"Don't think you don't get anything in return, baby," you purred as you tried to roll Eddie onto his back. He laughed at your attempt to move him, so he rolled himself into the same position you had yourself in. He still had his jeans on, so you went for the handcuff belt buckle and unfastened it. You pulled them off to expose him in a very similar situation he had you in. Eddie laid there naked apart from his plaid boxers.
"Shame," you began to say. He looked at you with a puzzled look. "I was expecting to see you in some sexy black lace panties too,"
He laughed and tried to hide his blushing cheeks. You straddled Eddie for a little bit, tongues dancing together in your mouths, before making your way down to his waist. You placed light kisses down his happy trail, making his hips buck slightly with how gentle you were being. When you got to the boxers, you kissed just above the waistband and palmed his bulge at the same time. A raspy moan escaped his lips. You smirked, loving that it was your turn in control.
"How much do you want my mouth around your cock?" you asked, voice thick with lust. Your face was inches away from his crotch and you looked at him with absolute desire. He was speechless with the sudden change in tone.
"Fuck, baby, so bad," he muttered.
"Louder," you demanded. "I can't hear you. How much?"
"I want you to suck my cock so bad, baby, please,"
You pulled down his boxers to expose him. His cock bobbed slightly from being released from the material. The head was already red and glistened slightly from the small beads of pre-cum which had already escaped. You took one last look up at Eddie before taking him in your mouth.
His head hit the cushion behind him, a large moan escaping his lips and his eyes had rolled to the back of his head. You hadn't even taken in that much of him, but Eddie had been dreaming of this moment for a long time and it was so much better than what he had hoped. You swirled your tongue around his tip and flicked the slit at the end, and you kept doing that every so often to take a break from taking all of him in your mouth. He was getting close so you decided to take him out your mouth and rub your hand up and down his shaft.
"C'mon, baby, are you gonna come for me?" you laced on the sweetness thick. You began to pick up pace.
"Yeah, fuck," his breath hitched as he tried to speak, and he unbuckled beneath you, spilling across your hand and moaning out your name.
You sat upright to see Eddie come back to Earth from his orgasm and you came to the sudden realisation of the mess on your hand. He seemed to clock it at the same time, reached over for his t-shirt, and gave it you.
"It's fine, I'll wash it," he shrugged. You cleaned your hand and his cock off with the top and threw it away from the other clothes. "Come with me,"
He stood up, grabbed your hand, and led you into his bedroom. He pushed you against his door ferociously, his kisses big and messy. You matched the energy as you wanted more of him and you wanted it now. It was clear Eddie felt the same way. He picked you up and you wrapped your legs around his waist, still kissing you with such passion, and placed you onto his bed. He reached into his bedside table and put a condom on.
"You ready, baby?" he leaned down and gave you a soft kiss.
"Always,"
He placed himself at the entrance between your slit and pushed himself in gently, small moans coming from both of you. Eddie built up a pace that was just right and not too quick as you were both still quite excited from what just happened in the living room. You didn't care.
"Eddie, please, make me come again. You made me feel so good," you begged him.
"Not so fast, sweetheart," Eddie replied with a devilish grin. "Good things come to those who wait. You're gonna wait like a good girl, aren't you?"
"Fuck, yes, Eddie. I'm a good girl," you moaned in reply. You would complain normally, but this teasing was doing wonders for you.
Eddie kept the same pace up, and you began to play with your nipples. The view of you pleasuring yourself whilst he fucked you began to make him unwind. He couldn't tease you any longer, hell, it was like he was teasing himself at this rate with the slow and steady pace. He began to thrust faster and harder, moans falling out of each other's mouths. Eddie slipped his hand between the pair of you and began to rub circles against your clit. You threw your head back in ecstasy, the sensation becoming almost overwhelming. He managed to lean forward towards you a bit for a second taste of your nipples, sucking and rolling his tongue around them. You leaned forward to him for a sloppy, but passionate kiss.
"Eddie, I'm so close again," you whimpered.
His curls draped over your chest as he was still making work of your nipples. You began to grip onto his arms, getting closer to the edge.
"Eddie, please," you began to unravel. "Please make me come, baby, I'm so close,"
He loved hearing you plead for him. He detached himself away from your chest and he fucked you hard and fast. His hands gripping onto your waist and yours holding onto his forearms, your knuckles turning white.
Eddie was getting close to the edge too. His rhythm buckled slightly as he was reaching the end. He placed one of his hands on the bed just by your shoulder, gripping the sheets tightly in his fist. His face was close to yours again. His fringe slightly sticking to his forehead and curls hanging inches from your cheeks. You moved your hands around to hold his back, nails digging in slightly, trying to keep him close to you.
"C'mon, sweetheart, you can come for me now," he cooed in your ear. "I wanna hear you,"
Fuck. Your hips bucked and back arched. Head thrown back into the pillow again. It felt like the Fourth of July. Gripping onto Eddie's back for dear life and knuckles turning white, you moan his name loudly, coming hard. He wasn't too long to follow suit, thrusting hard with each moan and his body was shaking. Eddie moaned your name one last time as he reached his climax.
He moved to lay next to you in bed, both of you out of breath. You both turned your heads to look at each other. A small pause. Then you both let out a laugh.
"I didn't realise you were such a potty-mouth," he joked.
You rolled onto your side to look at him properly.
"And I didn't realise how dominating you were in the bedroom," you joked back.
"They don't call me a Dungeon Master for no reason, sweetheart," he winked at you.
Eddie pushed himself up off the bed to clean himself up and passed you a towel to do the same. As you went to the bathroom, Eddie quickly ran into the living room to pick up the discarded items of clothing and threw them on the floor at the bottom of his bed.
The pair of you climbed back into bed under the duvet, curled up against Eddie's chest. He stroked your hair as you concentrated on the rhythm of his breathing.
"God, if falling out with you leads to this every time, then I take back what I said earlier," Eddie joked. You laughed and elbowed him in the ribs. "I'm kidding... I did mean what I said to you though,"
"I know," you looked up at Eddie, moving small strands away from his face. "I do really fuckin' like you, too,"
You shared a soft and content smile with each other. You placed your head back on his chest and he continued to stroke your hair until you both eventually drift off to sleep.
Absolutely smitten.

Chapter Three: New Morning
The last two days of the school week flew by, and you'd found your routine in school pretty well. You had kept joining Robin and Steve for their shifts at work which meant you'd be getting home later than expected. Classes were currently super easy, so doing homework late at night was no issue as you breezed through all your assignments. After finishing up your work, you'd head downstairs and reheat the food your mom would have left for you. Tonight was Friday night, and she was sat in the kitchen with a glass of wine, listening to the radio.
"Hey mom," you shuffled into the kitchen. "Thanks for dinner. You know I would've sorted it out myself,"
"No problem, sweetie," she smiled at you. "It's just nice to see you happy,"
"It's nice to be happy too, mom," you smiled back. You grabbed your dinner out of the microwave and sat next to your mom. "Are you going out tonight?"
"No, I'm... I'm not ready for that yet," she looked into the bottom of her glass. You grabbed her hand and squeezed it lightly.
"There's always another night. Anyway, we can hang out together tonight. Robin let me rent out a movie for free that I thought we could watch if you want? I'm making up for all the late nights I've been having this week,"
"Okay, that sounds good to me, sweetie," her eyes had a glint of tears in them. "It's so nice to see you're already in with a good set of friends. I'm glad we could get away."
You couldn't help but smile. It was a lot different to your hometown, and you couldn't help mirror your mom's sentiments. You were glad you both got away. You finished your dinner and grabbed a second wine glass from the cupboard. Your mom allowed you a couple of glasses of wine with her on the weekends as long as you had your homework done. 'Weekends are for fun, not studying!' she used to say. And it's something you've stuck with. Even towards the back end of your stay in your hometown, you always made sure you did your work so the weekends were free... Free to stay cooped up in your room all weekend and terrified to leave.
After the film had finished, you noticed your mom had fallen asleep. A minuscule amount of wine left in the bottom of her glass rested on the side table and she was curled up into a ball. You grabbed a blanket from the back of the sofa, laid it over her, and tucked her in. You saw her snuggled into the soft material with a soft hum, and you gave her a soft forehead kiss goodnight. You grabbed both wine glasses and the empty bottle and put them in the kitchen, then made way back to your bedroom. And for the first time in ages... You were alone.
All alone.
It was weird to be still so awake after a long, hectic week. You'd kept yourself so busy that you had hardly reflected on what even resulted in the move. Now you were alone with your thoughts and your mind whizzed and buzzed and every little bit of anxiety tugged and pulled at your inner being and your breath became shorter and shorter and--
"STOP!" you shouted at yourself. You suddenly realised how loud you were and covered your mouth instantly. You didn't hear any movement from downstairs, so your mom was still asleep. "Calm the fuck down. You're away from that shithole and away from those shitheads. Remember, deep breaths..." You did your counting and breathing exercises to focus but nothing seemed to work. Looking at the clock, it was just about to go midnight and you contemplated ringing Robin. Thinking about it made your anxiety worse to the point where your impulsiveness intervened and picked up the phone.
Ring ring. Ring ring.
"H-Hello?" a croaky voice came from the phone.
"Robin?" you half-whispered.
"Yeah? What's up?" you heard her rolling over in bed. "Damn, it's midnight, are you okay?"
"I'm-- I'm sorry, I shouldn't have called. I just didn't know what to do," you tried to hide the quiver in your voice.
"Hey, hey, it's okay. I'm always here, even at midnight," she chuckled slightly. "C'mon, what's up?"
"I'm having some sort of panic attack, I think," you began to say, deep breaths in between some of the words. "I just haven't had time to stop and think about everything,"
"And it's all hit you at once?"
"Yeah,"
"Do you feel okay telling me what happened? Maybe talking about what went on might help get it out of your head. No pressure,"
You paused. You hadn't told anyone about why you moved. Only you and your mom knew why you had to leave. And it was still so recent, the wounds were still fresh. But you haven't had a friend, a good friend, for months. You'd only been at Hawkins High for a week and you just felt the trust with Robin straight away.
"Okay, fuck it. So basically, me and my mom moved 'cause I was being bullied. Like, real bad. I had rumours spread around school about me. Apparently I was a slut, a coke-head, used to sleep with my teachers for good grades, a devil worshipper... You fuckin' name it. It was all because of my boyfr--" you stopped and began to correct yourself. "My ex-boyfriend. I was a bit of a bad girl, not gonna lie, and I used to sneak out on weekend nights to go to dive bars with him to see some cool bands. One night, it just all went wrong. He didn't wanna go to the bar this night, he wanted to hang in my room. I didn't mind, just told him that we needed to be quiet as my mom was home. He'd snuck some liquor from his dad's cabinet and we began sharing it. The night goes on, some heavy petting... Then he said he wanted to have sex with me. I still wasn't ready, especially when I was getting so drunk. And he kept trying and trying, and I kept pushing him off. He didn't like it, called me a cock-tease, then climbed back out my window. That's when the rumours started. Lying about us sleeping together and making the Jocks lie by saying they'd had me too, and it spiralled so badly. I lost my friends 'cause they started to believe what they heard. I mean, if everyone is saying it then it must be true! I came home every day, crying. My mom didn't know what to do 'cause I wouldn't talk to her about it. I got worse. I wouldn't sit with my mom for dinner, I'd just take it into my room and live in my own solitude. One day, I just wouldn't go into school. My mom tried to make me and drag me out of bed, and I couldn't stop crying, and I blurted out 'Get off me! I'm not a slut!'... She froze and it all clicked. She didn't even need to ask. She has some weird sixth sense, my mom. She held me tightly, told me she would sort everything, but asked me to promise to go into school just for today. I sobbed but I did as I was told. I was so scared she was gonna tell me off like she had done when she'd found me sneaking back home tipsy, stinking of whisky and smokes. But I went to school, got shoved around the hallway, barely made it through the day. Then when the last bell rang, there she was. My mom, a U-Haul truck, and everything we owned. That was the best day of my life,"
There was a bit of a pause after your tale. It was hard to say, but you managed to get through it with no meltdowns. When you had officially moved into your new Hawkins residence, your mom made you tell her everything that happened, and there must have been a couple of meltdowns at least during those re-tellings.
"Wow," Robin replied after a short while. "That's really heavy, man. Fuck, I'm so sorry. You must have been dealing with fucking assholes for so long. Sounds like your mom is a real superhero,"
"Yeah," you smiled, wiping away a stray tear. "She is, y'know. But thank you,"
"For what?"
"For picking up the phone at midnight and listening to my traumatic ass," you laughed.
"It's what I'm here for. It doesn't matter how long we've known each other, you're my friend. And I'll always be here by your side. Promise,"
It made you cry again with how sweet Robin's words were and how she said them. You had some light chit-chat before you realised it was pushing 1:45am. You both called it a night and hung up the phone. Settling back into your bed, you grabbed a stuffed animal nearby and squeezed it hard. Your mind was free from terror for the night and drifted off into Dreamland.
You awoke from your late night slumber at 10am and made your way downstairs to make breakfast. The house was really quiet, so you walked around trying to see if your mom was up and about. There seemed to be no sign of her until you saw a note pinned on the fridge from her. 'Got an interview at 11am. Pancakes left in microwave! - Love mom xxx' it read. You smiled, grabbed the plate, and walked into the living room to try catch some Saturday morning cartoons. As you watched Muppet Babies in space eating the last bits of your pancakes, you heard a knock on your door. You weren't expecting anyone over at all, maybe your mom had left her keys? Placing the plate down in the kitchen as you walked towards the front door, it knocked again.
"Okay, okay, I'm coming!" you shouted through as you turned the lock. As you opened the door, Robin and Steve were standing there wearing massive grins on their face. "What are you guys doing here?" You were suddenly very aware of how bad your bed-hair was when you saw Steve and Robin eye you up and down. You pulled your dressing gown tighter around yourself, hiding your Iron Maiden t-shirt and red Dolfin shorts.
"We're heading to the mall, get dressed!" Robin cheered.
"She said you had a bit of a rough night, so we thought we'd take you to the mall for a bit of retail therapy," Steve said with a comforting smile on his face.
"Huh, okay. C'mon, might as well come in whilst I go up and get ready," you ushered the pair in and locked the door up behind you.
They both sat down on the sofa and were immediately drawn into Muppet Babies that was still on the TV. You told them you'd be quick as you could as you ran upstairs to get dressed. You put on a Van Halen t-shirt, some skin tight blue denim jeans, and threw some pink frilly socks on to keep it cute. Running across the hall to the bathroom, you could hear Robin and Steve debate who the best Muppet was - Gonzo for Robin, but Fozzie Bear for Steve. You tamed your bed head and cleaned yourself up, adding a touch of make up to finish it all up. You ran downstairs to them still debating about why their choice was the best.
"I won't stand for this Beaker erasure, quite honestly," you said whilst walking past them, plopping yourself down next to Steve on the sofa. You slipped on your trainers and turned the TV off. "You guys ready?"
Just before heading out, you left your mom a note on the back of hers that she'd left you. 'Gone out with Robin and Steve, I'll call you later! Love you xxx' You picked up your denim jacket as you were leaving, shooing the pair out the house. Door locked, jacket on, in the car. The three of you set off to the mall just out of town.
They told you that they used to work in Starcourt before "the fire" - air quotes from Robin - so the nearest mall was just out of Hawkins. You loved to go to the mall in your hometown before everything went to shit, so it was nice to be heading into something familiar with your new friends. Steve eventually managed to find a parking space in the lot, and the three of you set off inside. You were immediately surrounded by people; the place was absolutely packed. The food court was filled with families and teens gossiping, girls hanging by the indoor fountain chewing bubblegum trying to get the attention of the guys sat on benches nearby, and kids running in and out of the arcade for more change from their parents. There was so much to look at and you had no idea where to begin. Luckily, Steve and Robin just pulled you into the places they wanted to go and knew were best so you weren't too overwhelmed. You ended up bumping into some of the kids and was introduced to Lucas' sister, Erica - "he didn't want me to come along but mom and dad made him, so I'm gonna make his day harder just 'cause he doesn't want me here," she told you and took a long slurp from her drink - and you all ended up hanging out in the food court. After a short while, you spotted a music store and it had been ages since you managed to scope out anything new to listen to. So you excused yourself from the table to head in for a browse. Robin offered to come with you but you were fairly certain you were capable of looking at music by yourself, so she stayed put.
You walked into the Tower Records store and was amazed by the amount of vinyls and cassettes on display. You walked up and down slowly around the new releases and the pop music, but nothing seemed to peak your interest. You ended up where you normally feel comfortable, by the Rock and Metal section. You flicked through the different tapes, seeing if there was anything that matched the current feelings you were experiencing - new music to you, but not necessarily new to the world. There were some tapes that hadn't been sealed or someone else had already taken a sneaky listen to, so those were the other ones to look out for. One tape seemed to stand out from the rest, mainly as it was bordering on the Country side but still in the Rock section. It's colour was mainly of an orange colour but the photo was in black and white. 'New Morning - Bob Dylan... Sounds like a new beginning to me...' you thought to yourself. It was one of the lucky tapes that didn't have a seal around it, so you took a quick look around and popped the tape into your Walkman. You fast-forwarded it to the title track and listened to the uptempo beat, foot tapping along. You had definitely got into the groove of the song and had started to zone out, until you felt a presence by your side. You slowly turned to look at the person who was incredibly close to your personal space, only to see... Him. Not to your surprise, you noticed he was fingering through the different selections in the Metal section.
With him being so close, you could finally get a closer look properly for the first time that isn't across the cafeteria, a fleeting visit in the video store, or an accidental stumble. His denim cutoff had different band patches and pins attached, his leather jacket's cuffs had chains attached, and it looked like there was a sneaky joint stuffed into his top pocket. He could feel your gaze on him again and slowly turned to face you. You pulled down your Walkman's headphones and as you were about to say something, he got there before you.
"Hey, sweetheart," his voice sounded as sweet as the nickname he'd given you. "What brings you here?"
"Oh, erm, Robin and Steve dragged me along," you pointed over your shoulder to outside the store at the aforementioned pair with the kids sat with them in the background. "Had a bit of a shitty night last night so they brought me here for some retail therapy,"
"Do I need to beat anyone up?" he turned to look at you head on with a stern expression on his face.
"Not unless you fancy driving for miles-- No, no, you're good. No fist-fights on my behalf, thank you. I appreciate it, but no thanks,"
"Alright, good," his posture relaxed. "Didn't wanna get my hair in a mess anyway, took fuckin' ages to tangle this mane,"
You laughed as he fluffed his hair up and pouted. You finally got around to introducing yourself properly to him, and you apologised with reddened cheeks for staring at him across the cafeteria recently.
"Don't sweat it. Good to know that I can have that effect on people," his cheekiness only made your cheeks flush with colour harder. He held out his hand. "Seeing as you finally got the balls to introduce yourself... I'm Eddie,"
"It's a pleasure to meet you," you smiled as you took his hand to shake.
"Oh no, sweetheart, the pleasure's all mine," Eddie squeezed your hand lightly as a devilish grin crept upon his face, and time seemed to stand still in that very moment. "Anyway, whatcha listening to?"
You held up the cassette case. "Trying before I buy, don't go telling everyone,"
"Nah, don't worry 'bout it. I try before I stash in my pocket and walk away like nothing ever happened. But why Bob Dylan? Not being funny, but he doesn't exactly look like your kinda style,"
"I was just seeing what would jump out at me, y'know? I'm new here... New Morning... Just seemed fitting. Wanted to see if I liked it enough to get it. Or at least record it on my mixtape and bring it back for a refund,"
"Unconventional stealing, I like it," you elbowed Eddie for the comment, making him laugh.  He lifted up the tape he'd picked up before you'd started talking. "This is one of my favourites. Iron Maiden's self titled album. I think you'd like it, or maybe you could tape one of the songs on your mixtape? Who knows,"
He slipped it into his inside pocket in the leather jacket. Nobody battered an eyelid, that's if they saw anyway. He began to head for the exit, like you'd never even spoken to each other.
"Eddie?" you called as he was making his way out. "It was nice to meet you,"
"Likewise, sweetheart,"
He was an inch away from walking out the door when he stopped for a moment, then began walking back to you. For some unknown reason, this made your heart feel like it was going to bounce out of your chest. It felt like a fight-or-flight moment.
"Let's meet up sometime. I've got a good feeling about you. How's next Friday night for ya?"
"Uhh-- Yeah, sounds good,"
"Great! It's a date," he grinned and walked out of the store.
As he walked past the window, he reached in his pocket and waved the tape at you with a stupid smile on his face. Only to be followed swiftly afterwards with an 'oh, shit!' as he cottoned on that the mall security were onto him, and started running. You laughed, then realised you still had the tape in your Walkman and quickly decided to put it back in its case, and walked to the counter to purchase it. You didn't exactly feel like running away from mall security on your first visit.
As you left Tower Records, you noticed that it looked like Robin and Steve were ready to go. It sounded like they'd been trying to tell Erica they couldn't get her all the free ice cream for life any more since Starcourt was destroyed.
"Just because Scoops Ahoy isn't here doesn't mean you guys didn't promise me ice cream. Baskin-Robbins is right there!" Erica claimed. The pair gave you a look which screamed 'save us NOW'.
"Hey, Steve? Can I get a lift home? I bet my mom is wondering where I am right now. She'll be worried sick," you played it on thick.
"Oh yeah, sure, of course," he tried to copy you but it became super obvious that he was faking it. The three of you walked away quickly, leaving Erica shouting 'Baskin-Robinns!' and making you pick up the pace. "I am not buying her ice cream,"
You finally approached the car back in the parking lot and you could see the pair were happy to be away from the rambunctious teens, taking a long deep exhale of the cold air. Suddenly, a honk made you all jump and turn to see who it was. A van drove by and you could hear Running Free by Iron Maiden playing from inside. You instantly knew who it was and a small smile crept on your face.
"7:30 Friday okay for ya?" he called out.
"Yeah, sure,"
"Perfect." he winked and sped off out the parking lot, leaving the other two stunned and you blushing with a bigger smile growing in your face.
"Guess who's got a date?"

Chapter Two: Fall Breeze
You were stood at the end of your driveway waiting for Robin and her friend, Steve, to come pick you up. Robin had called you last night to make sure the number was right and to definitely make sure where to pick you up from.
"...so we make a left here after the gas station, and then drive straight for half a mile?" she asked.
"Yeah, for the third time, Robin," you laughed. "I'll be stood at the end of the drive waiting, saves you stressing about going too far,"
"What about if we're early and drive past when you're not there?"
You couldn't help but laugh again at her worries. "Look, you'll be fine. If I miss you guys and you're not here by 8:30, then I'll just walk. I walked home today, I should be a-okay walking to school if needs be,"
"Okay, okay, sorry," you heard Robin take a deep breath. "So what did you think of your first day? Any stresses? Any questions?"
You were hesitant to tell Robin about the Hellfire guy incident on your way home, so you thought that it may be best to try and talk about it face-to-face. "Nah, I'm all good. If I think of anything, I'll bring it up tomorrow."
You were wrapped up in a long, black, fleeced coat, and a red tartan scarf to help keep the fall breeze at bay. Rucksack sitting on the gravel next to your feet, Walkman on, feet tapping along to the beat of This Corrosion by The Sisters of Mercy - a new track added to the mixtape. You had put one of the earphones to the side to keep an ear out for Robin and Steve, worried that you might miss them and not the other way around. All of a sudden, you could hear a car coming from down the road. Squinting to see the vehicle approaching from the distance, it looked burgundy in colour and quite a nice model too. It eventually pulled up a couple of feet away from you, and as you seemed slightly hesitant to approach, you then saw Robin stick her head out of the passenger window.
"Hey! C'mon, let's gooo!" she waved and smiled. You ducked your head into your scarf hiding a smile at how silly she was, picked up your rucksack, and headed towards the car. Your assumption of it being a nice car was reaffirmed when you got closer and sat in the back. A BMW, snazzy. You pulled off your headphones and stopped your tape, tucking it all into the deep pocket of your coat. "Steve, this is our new friend," Robin introduced you. He turned around in the drivers seat and gave you a little head nod, hair bouncing a bit as he did so. "We're in, like, all the same classes together so we're gonna be best buddies, aren't we?" She smiled at you through the rear view mirror.
"Best buddies, huh? I've already been demoted, I see..." Steve teased. "I'm guessing you won't be needing a carpool to and from Hawkins High now. I get it. No need to let me down lightly, think I've got the hint--" Robin punched his arm. "--OW! Hey! C'mon, you know I was teasing,"
You laughed at their playful nature all along the journey to school. They seemed like really good friends, and couldn't help but smile at their inside jokes that you didn't even know. It was just nice to be around. The three of you arrived at the school parking lot shortly after, and you and Robin began to gather your things.
"Okay, kids, I'll be here ready and waiting to pick you up at 4pm sharp! Don't forget to eat all your packed lunch or I'm gonna be disappointed again," Steve seemed to be the joker but you really didn't mind at all. As you went to leave the car, he turned around in his seat to face you. "Hey, I know we've literally only just met but I hope you like it here. You've got a good friend in Robin, she'll look after you,"
"Thanks, Steve. I really appreciate it," you slightly blushed at him being so caring. The guy hardly knew you. You'd only been in the car for 10 minutes. You hopped out the back and adjusted all your belongings. You and Robin waved Steve off as he drove away to his day job at Family Video, and then decided to walk to your lockers inside the school. At least it would be warmer than outside. The Indiana fall breeze had a certain chill to it that was hard to shake off.
The hallway was just as busy as it was yesterday, people congregating by certain lockers, the cliques began forming yet again for their morning catch up. Thankfully, you'd been assigned a locker a couple of spaces down from Robin so you didn't have to worry about any unwanted interactions, especially from the Jocks. You side-eyed them teasing this young kid for no reason other than to make themselves laugh and to make the kid feel smaller than he already was. It made you feel uneasy and reminded you of being in the same shoes as that kid at your old high school, thankful that eyes weren't on you for once. Robin could see you tense.
"Are you alright?" she had stopped organising her books in her locker.
"Yeah, it's just seeing that kid being teased... Reminds me of my old school, that's all," you shuffled your feet a bit, focusing on grabbing your textbooks and throwing them into your bag.
"Is that why you moved?" you paused when she asked. "Oh shit, I'm sorry. If it's a touchy subject, it's fine. I'll leave it. Don't have to tell me until you're ready, Scout's Honour!" You could tell Robin was apologetic for touching a nerve, trying to make things better with some lighthearted humour.
"It's okay, you didn't know about it. Maybe I'll tell you another time, somewhere not so busy," you flashed her a small smile. She gave you a comforting one in return. The bell rang, so you closed your lockers up and headed towards your first class of the day.
The morning absolutely dragged its heels as the subjects being covered in the classes were something you'd already brushed upon in your old high school. You made some brief notes, but mainly doodled something to whip up into a proper art piece at home. You looked over towards Robin at one point and noticed she was curling her hair around her finger, idly staring at the back of a girl's head - presumably the girl she was staring at yesterday. Finally, the bell for lunch rang, everyone snapped out of their daze, and the class couldn't escape the room fast enough. Clearly they've been suffering as much as you.
Lunch was much of the same as yesterday, all that changed was the cafeteria food and apple juice instead of OJ. Robin was still staring the girl from band, who was the person she was staring at in class too.
"Poor girl's gonna have two holes in the side of her head if you keep staring," you leaned over to Robin's ear, speaking in hushed tones. She snapped out of it, blushing as she turned to face you. Even though it was obvious to you that Robin had a crush on her, you could tell she was embarrassed about being caught out. "Don't worry, I won't say anything. I know it's a difficult conversation to openly discuss," She looked at you, tilting her head to the side, narrowing her eyes briefly and then opening them a bit wider in realisation. She went to point at you as if to say 'you too?'. You turned your hand in a so-so motion but mouthed the word 'bi', and Robin nodded in response. 'Huh, I don't think I've ever openly come out to anyone before... That's a first,' you thought.
Shrugging it off, you both then dipped in and out of conversation with the people on your table. You drifted away subconsciously and began gazing around the cafeteria again, just like yesterday. The Goths reapplying their purple and black lipstick after tucking into the school's mac and cheese, the Math Nerds trying to hide in their corner using their textbooks as shields, and the Jocks using whatever they could get their hands on to try catapult towards the said Math Nerds. And yet again, your eyes fall upon the Hellfire Club table. All of them sat in their designated places, and the curly haired metalhead leader sat at the head of the table. Robin had said yesterday to you that they played Dungeons and Dragons, and you wouldn't be surprised if this was the same formation they sat in for their campaigns. The metalhead seemed to be telling the premise of the next session which he was planning, hands flailing in the air, standing on his chair at one point with one foot on the table. The others seem captivated, and honestly, so were you (even if you couldn't make out a single word he was saying). Snapping you out of your concentration, the bell cut things off and all the bodies scuttled out the cafeteria into the next classes. 'I wonder if I'll bump into him again,' you thought to yourself.
The last couple of hours dragged by just as slow as this morning, with you and Robin sharing a knowing look of 'kill me now'. The final buzz of the day rang, with kids ignoring the teacher's plea into making sure they do their homework as there will definitely be a pop quiz about what they've studied today. Their voice sounded just as tired as you all felt. You gave a nod to the teacher, acknowledging their speech. It's the least you could do.
"So obviously Steve is gonna be waiting for us outside, but he's gotta get back to his shift at Family Video. And I'm gonna be working with him too. You wanna come hang out at the shop? He'll be able to drop you off when we're done. If not, we can always drop you off at home first," Robin asked you. You hadn't really seen much of Hawkins since you moved here a couple of weeks ago. "I can give you some free popcorn..." she said in a sing-song voice, trying to tempt you. You laughed at her persuasion skills.
"Ha, okay, you had me at popcorn. Better be sweet 'n' salty, or I'm not coming," you said half-seriously. Sweet 'n' salty was your favourite, it better be a part of the deal.
"Deal," Robin fist bumped you as you walked out the front doors of Hawkins High. Steve honked his horn as you both approached the burgundy car. Robin sat in the front again, so you threw your rucksack in first on the backseat and sat in the original place you were in this morning.
"We dropping you off home?" Steve asked, as he turned around to see whilst reversing.
"Nah, I'm tagging along for the shift," you replied. "Besides, there's some free popcorn in it for me,"
Steve gave a stern look to Robin. "What have I said about giving away popcorn? We need to sell the snacks! You know Keith doesn't like me and will use this as an excuse to fire me,"
She shrugged at him. "Whatever, she can have my allocated share for the day," Robin gave you a wink and you inwardly laughed. Steve rolled his eyes and got the three of you on the road, Robin took off her coat and slipped on her Family Video vest over her blouse, and you sat and stared out the window. 'I could get used to this...'
Not too long after leaving the school, the three of you pulled up into the forecourt where Family Video was situated alongside a small arcade and a couple of other shops. It was busy in the parking lot, filled with kids of all ages, but they seemed to be hanging out closer to the arcade so it wasn't too much of a hassle getting into the shop. When you walked in, the sound of Raiders of the Lost Ark played faintly in the background. Keith swapped with Robin and Steve so the pair could start their shift together. His drawl voice was obviously ticking Steve off, so Robin buttered Keith up to ensure that all the tasks he had now delegated onto them would be done. As he walked out the door, you heard Steve mutter 'schmuck' under his breath and you stifled a laugh.
"Popcorn now, or popcorn later?" Robin shook the empty bag towards you.
"Now's good, thanks," you replied. She filled up the bag, nearly overflowing, and passed it to you. Your eyes bulged at the amount. "You sure this is just your share?"
"Mine and half of Steve's," she tried to whisper.
"Hey!" he yelled.
"Oops," you both laughed. "Take a stroll, pick a video of your fancy. We can watch anything we want--"
"Within reason," Steve chimed in.
"--within reason," she repeated after Steve. "That's only 'cause we got watching Alien first thing one Saturday morning and traumatised the young kids picking up Mary Poppins,"
"Yeah, someone nearly lost their job for someone else's explicit VHS choice, didn't they?" Steve gave a stern look at Robin, but she refused to turn around and face him.
"I'm never gonna live it down. But I still don't regret it," you both laughed as Steve leaned his hip against the counter.
You began walking up and down the aisles filled with different tapes. You weren't particularly sure what to pick. Disney? Another Indiana Jones? All you knew was that any thriller, horror, or B-Movie special was off the cards. You stopped in front of the 'New Releases' display and picked up one of the tapes. It had 5 kids posing on the cover all looking a little moody. "Five teenage students... Saturday detention together... Bared their souls... Yeah, that'll do," you read the synopsis a bit to yourself before taking it to the counter and handing it to Steve. He nodded in appreciation for your choice and waited for the Indiana Jones flick to finish.
It was fairly quiet in the shop to be honest, so you weren't really sure as to why Robin and Steve both had to work - easily could be manned by one of them at least - but you were glad they were both working so it got making to know them both and their friendship together a lot more fun. There were plenty of little digs at each other and inside jokes were explained a bit, and you got to find out a bit about the rest of their friendship group. They didn't go into much detail but had said something pretty serious happened so a couple of their friends, El and Will, had to move away to California, and you could see that it was still pretty fresh so it still hurt. But they explained some of the recent gossip within the group; Max and Lucas had just split up - and Max was suffering really bad with the death of her brother so she'd been pretty distant, Lucas was in the basketball team but was also playing D&D with Hellfire, Mike played D&D in Hellfire was seriously missing his girlfriend and best friend, and Dustin was really enjoying being in a new D&D group as he'd missed it a lot since shit happened with Will - which was one hell of a story, but not even the full tale according to Robin (she said they'd probably tell the tale another time in the future). They both said that they all occasionally pop by to rent a movie together and hang out, but they'd all sort of found their groups in high school so didn't really see each other much apart from maybe weekends.
After learning all this new stuff about the friendship group, you realised you hadn't called home to say where you were. You excused yourself for a moment and went outside to use a payphone. Outside the arcade, you saw who you thought were Dustin, Mike, and Lucas based off the descriptions Robin and Steve had told you. Dustin and Mike seemed a bit pissed off that Lucas was bailing, and they watched him hop into a Jock's car. They both then walked into Family Video so you were pretty sure you'd be getting a full introduction shortly. You slotted in a couple of coins into the payphone and dialled home. The air had even more of a chill than before, so you pulled your coat tighter.
"Hey, mom," you said quietly. "Yeah I'm sorry I didn't call, my friends Robin and Steve gave me a lift to the video store... Uh-huh, the ones who picked me up for school this morning... No, it's okay, they're dropping me home when they've finished their shift... Okay, yeah I won't be late. Love you," and you hung up the phone. Surprisingly, there was no berating down the phone for once. In your old town, if you were calling up saying you were going to be home late, you didn't hear the end of it and would be grounded for two weeks at the least. It felt suspicious, but you might as well enjoy the peace whilst you can. You walked back into the store and the two boys you'd spotted just a moment ago were chatting animatedly with Steve and Robin.
"I just can't believe he's ditching us to play some stupid basketball! He's a nerd at heart, he should be at Hellfire with us," Dustin frowned, crossing his arms in a huff against the counter top.
"Uh-huh, and I can't believe you're ditching hanging out with me to play D&D with 'The Freak'," Steve sulked at him. Dustin hit his arm. "OW! Hey, what is with everyone doing that to me today?"
"He's not a freak," Dustin said defiantly. "Anyway, you're just jealous that I've got other friends than you,"
"No I'm not," Steve crossed his arms in front of his chest. "You just don't make time for me any more,"
"You are jealous! Is it because there's another guy older than me taking me under his wing and you don't like it?"
It hit a nerve with Steve and you could tell, hell all of you could, but he tried to play it off nonchalantly. "Look, you can hang out with anyone you like, but I was here first okay so that makes me the best,"
Dustin rolled his eyes and laughed, pushing at Steve across the counter.
Mike didn't really say too much, he just seemed to be in his own world. But he turned to face you, and gave you a puzzled look. "Hey, erm, you're new here, right?"
"Yeah, I've been in Hawkins a couple of weeks. Only just joined the high school this week," you replied. You introduced yourself and the two boys introduced themselves back, explaining what grade they were in, and that they were going to Hellfire tonight for the much anticipated campaign session. Mike then looked at his watch.
"Oh shit, Dustin, we're gonna be late! I didn't think it was so late, Eddie is gonna be mad at us,"
"Shit, shit, shit, okay, erm Steve? Can I get some Milk Duds?" Dustin rushed.
"Are you gonna pay for them this time?" his arms were still crossed. Man, he was pissed.
Dustin exhaled in frustration through his nostrils. He threw a dollar bill on the counter. Steve threw the Milk Duds directly at Dustin, causing him to fumble trying to catch them. Dustin frowned at his friend, and nudged Mike as if to say they were ready to go.
"Heh, Milk Duds are for Eddie. Hopefully it'll appease him for being late," Mike shyly explained to you whilst taking the chocolate candy from Dustin, giving them a slight shake.
"Yep, but he's still gonna be pissed when he realises Lucas is gonna be late turning up too, if he turns up at all," Dustin replied. "C'mon, let's go before he goes all Behemoth on us," the pair waved goodbye and left sharpish.
Steve ended up leaving the counter to sort some of the tapes out as some kids had been in trying to mess up the displays and spilling popcorn all over the floor. You turn to face Robin as you seemed to have a quiet moment to yourselves.
"So, who's this Eddie guy that they were talking about? Is he the head of the Hellfire group they're in?" you queried.
"Yeah, they more or less joined the group within the first week of the semester. Dustin, Mike, and Lucas were all sat together on this table in the cafeteria, and obviously they stuck out like a sore thumb. Being the charismatic character he is, he saw their fresh new faces and could tell instantly they'd be up for some D&D. Quite lucky really, they played it with their friend, Will, before he had to move," Robin explained. You nodded, finally finding out the metalhead's name who you'd accidentally bumped into yesterday and who you couldn't stop staring at. Maybe now was a good time to bring it up?
"I used to play D&D too, y'know," you casually slipped into conversation.
"Aw nice, why didn't you say something? Looks like they could've used an extra player tonight if their conversation was anything to go by,"
"Well I don't really know them, and I don't have any characters ready--"
"I'm just joshing," she playfully nudged you. "I know you wouldn't have gone anyway. Maybe another time though, get a character prepared... Just in case," she winked. It was your turn to nudge her playfully this time and you both laughed.
"I, erm, I bumped into Eddie on my walk home yesterday actually," you said. You weirdly felt shy about it, but with Steve calling him 'The Freak' and hearing others in the background say it too, it was only natural to be a bit cautious about bringing him up.
"Oh yeah? What happened?"
"Well, nothing really. I was walking back and I got near the trailer park, then this big gust of wind just blew on by. Got a face full of my own hair, couldn't see shit, ended up bumping into the guy. I thought he was gonna give me a load of shit for walking into him, but turns out he's actually quite nice," you explained.
"Steve gives Dustin a hard time about Eddie, but I've heard nothing but good things about him really. Mind you, the good things are from Dustin so maybe he's biased. But Steve has a good reason for being so harsh," Robin went on to say. She leaned forward towards you on the counter, speaking lowly so that if anyone passed by they couldn't hear what she was about to tell you. "The lowdown: Eddie's parents aren't in the picture, don't know why, but he lives with his uncle at the trailer park. He gets a bad rep 'cause he gives off stereotypical 'bad guy' vibes. He listens to metal, he's retaking his final year again, doesn't dress like everyone else, smoking pot, and well, he's also known around school for selling drugs too,"
"Oh," it took you aback slightly. "I see. I'm guessing it's mainly the dealing part that Steve is bothered about,"
Robin nodded in reply. "Personally, never had a problem with the guy. He comes in sometimes, borrows a movie, drags the kids out when they're running late, and he's always pleasant with us. I guess Dustin is right with what he's saying though, maybe Steve is a bit jealous that there's another older guy with influence in his life,"
"Maybe Steve is worried they'll end up selling or doing drugs like him," you replied. "I mean, I've only just met the kids but from what you've both told me today, they seem to have pretty sharp heads on their shoulders. They'll know to steer clear of that. They just wanna play D&D. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with a spliff every so often,"
"Right? And Steve's no person to judge for that," Robin blurted out. You raised a brow at her and mimed smoking a joint and subtly pointing at Steve, who was still sweeping up the popcorn kernels. "Shit... Yeah, Steve used to be a bit of a 'bad boy' in Hawkins High. He was the good looking popular guy. Nancy, Mike's older sister, told me that when they were dating he was smoking it at a small house party he was hosting,"
"Huh, no shit," you laughed. "Not as innocent as he seems to play then," you were a little hesitant to say what you were thinking, but if you didn't say this now, then it would eat you up. "I think he might have flirted with me?"
Robin was mid-sip of her water and nearly spat it out. "Who, Steve?!"
"No! No, no, Eddie,"
"Oh... OH. Wait, there's no might about it. He either did or he didn't,"
"Well, when I bumped into him I was really apologetic 'cause I'm clumsy, then he mentioned he'd seen me looking at him during lunch, said I should maybe introduce myself if I was gonna keep staring, called me 'sweetheart', and then walked off home,"
Robin smiled at you, resting her head on her hands. "Oh, that's a definite," you blushed at her response, trying to hide the crimson under your scarf and hoping the red would merge well with your face. "Told you he was charismatic,"
'Huh, and good looking to boot-- Oh, for God's sake...' You could feel the warmth of your cheeks getting hotter. Your thoughts were definitely not helping. "I'm just gonna go outside, I think I need a bit of air," you pointed both your hands towards the door awkwardly. Robin laughed at how shy you'd become all of a sudden, and just waved her hand at you to go outside.
The air hit you like an ice cold brick wall. If your face wasn't red from the embarrassment before, at least you could blame that damn fall breeze. You took in a couple of deep breaths, straightened yourself out, and walked back into the store. Steve had finally put on The Breakfast Club tape you'd handed him a couple hours previous. He'd managed to slip on The Goonies before your choice.
"It's his favourite," Robin said. "We have to watch it at least once a week when we're working together, don't we Steve?"
"Shut up, Robin," he called back at her. "It's at least once a fortnight..."
The store has gotten incredibly quiet just before The Breakfast Club on, it was mid-week and getting towards 8pm. There was only a couple of drifters that came in for a browse and then leave.
'Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?' Bender gave a dig at Vice Principle Vernon. The three of you chuckled.
"Hey, you know what? You look a bit like you've raided a bit of Bender and Allison's wardrobe today," Robin pipes up, looking at you. Long black coat like Allison, red tartan scarf like Bender's shirt... Damn, she's right. You could help but shrug and laugh.
"At least you won't forget about me," you shot finger guns at her, only to receive a groan at the joke from the pair. This made you laugh harder knowing that they enjoyed the joke but sure as hell won't admit it.
The movie came to an end and Robin was running around doing the last bits of tidying before they closed. Steve started rewinding the movie. The door sprang open which made all of you jump and shoot your heads up to see who'd walked it. Dustin and Mike were back with Lucas, so it looked like he eventually turned up to join the game. They were all laughing about what had happened as they were explaining it to Steve, who just seemed to nod his head along to their tales. You sat there at the counter overhearing their trials and tribulations when the door opened again, albeit not as harshly as before. You turned to see who had come in and there he was. Eddie strolled on in to come and grab the boys.
"C'mon, guys, time to go," he squeezed Dustin's shoulders. Steve tried to hide his grimace but it didn't really work, making Eddie smirk a little. "Harrington can hear your heroic tales another day," The boys wrapped up their conversation and said bye to you all, then headed to Eddie's van outside. He held the door open for them, and just as he was exiting the store himself, Eddie swung on the door as it was closing and gave you a cheeky little wink. "See ya, sweetheart."
'Jesus fucking Christ almighty...' your stomach was suddenly home to a thousand butterflies, flitting about the place. All you could muster up was a small wave goodbye, cheeks tinted pink. The door closed behind them all and all you could hear was Eddie's van rumbling into the distance. Robin came up behind you with the dustpan and brush, placing a hand on your shoulder.
"Wow. Definitely flirting," she patted your shoulder and went to put everything away. You looked over at Steve and he was the one to have a little smirk on his lips this time. You hid your face in your hands. 'Get me home!' you shouted in your head.
The three of you hopped into Steve's BMW and began the journey home. You could tell Steve was itching to say something about Eddie's comment as he kept glancing at you in the rear view mirror. You were nervous thinking about the fact of his name being brought up, but nothing had even happened to constitute any nerves. All Eddie did was be a little flirtatious with you after bumping into him, nothing to get all worked up about.
"So... Eddie," Steve finally piped up. You scooted in your seat a little at his name. Robin's head snapped around to look at Steve as if to ask if he was really serious about bringing it up. "What was all that about?"
"I-- I don't know," you tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. "All I did was bump into him on my walk home yesterday,"
"Yeah, and not keep your eyes off him all lunch yesterday and today," Robin teased.
"Hey!" you raised your voice. "You've got no room to talk," Robin tried hiding her face by looking out the passenger window, but she knew Steve was giving her a glare.
"I'm only teasing," Steve ended up breaking the tension. "Look, he's not exactly the best influence in regards to his, ahem, career, but I do know he can be a pretty nice guy,"
"I can't actually believe what I'm hearing," Robin had turned back around to face Steve. "You give Dustin all this shit about hanging around with 'The Freak' and you're singing his praises now? Maybe I'll ring Dustin when I get home--"
"Alright, alright, yeah I do give him a hard time about it, sure. But I do it 'cause it's funny to wind him up,"
"Pfft, yeah right. Definitely jealous that he's hanging out with another guy older than him,"
"Whatever, anyway!" Steve had pulled over just by your house now. He turned around to face you. "As much shit as I give Dustin about Eddie, he's right in what he tells me about the guy. He makes sure to drop them off home after D&D, keeps them out of trouble away from the Jocks, would easily take a punch for them too... He seems alright, you should actually speak to him." he turns to look at Robin, who begins to nod.
"I mean, yeah, I agree. There's no harm in saying hi, right? Not gonna lose something you never had in the first place," she gives you a soft smile.
All you can do is just sit there, stiff as a board. You felt like your parents had given you 'The Talk' and felt too embarrassed to move.
"...Okay, thanks for that. I'm just gonna slide on outta here, crawl up to my room and die. Bye, guys," you opened the back seat door to the car and stepped out into the dark. You began to walk up the drive home.
"Same time tomorrow?" Robin shouted through Steve's open window.
"Sure, see you in the morning." you shouted back. The pair drove away and all you could do was bury your face into your scarf again.
You unlock your door, kick off your boots, take off your scarf and coat, and throw yourself onto the sofa. Your mom calls through from the kitchen to see if it's you and tells you dinner is in the microwave ready to reheat. You shout back to her that you'll be there in a minute, sinking into the sofa a little.
'I've been here two fucking days and I've already been told to make a move on someone I don't even know,' your inner monologue spoke again. '...he is pretty cute though, so I guess that helps.'

Chapter One: First Day
First day nerves, never the greatest feeling in the world. But here you were... Hawkins High. You wandered towards the reception of the school, tightly gripping onto your school bag. If the other students couldn't tell you were a nervous wreck before, then your white knuckles holding onto the rucksack was a flashing neon sign. The hustle and bustle of the high school cliques pushed past as if you didn't exist as you tentatively walked down the hall, trying to look for any signage for the office that you needed to head towards. You saw a gap between the goths and the nerds that looked like the safe haven you'd been searching for and made a run for it - well, more of a fast paced walk for it.
At the reception was a lovely young lady with a tight perm, wearing cat eye shaped glasses with a pink chain attached, typing away at her desk. You shuffled towards her slowly and awaited her to notice you. You didn't have to wait too long as she gave a welcoming smile just a couple of moments after approaching the desk.
"Hi there, I'm guessing you're new here to Hawkins High?" she smiled, instantly making you feel at ease with her friendly tone.
"Yeah, I've no idea where to go so thought I'd come straight here," you replied, shuffling about on the spot.
"Not to worry, sugar, we've got you covered," the receptionist got all the details she needed from you and assembled some paperwork together to help you navigate the school as easily as possible. "...and one lil' thing extra to help you on your way, we've assigned you a student who is taking the same classes as you who can help show you around for the next couple of weeks. And hey, they could end up being your new best friend!" You smiled at her enthusiasm. She nodded her head towards the door behind you. "Looks like they're here now," You turned around to face the person she was speaking about. A girl roughly your age came rushing in, hair cut into a bob, carrying a trumpet case and fumbling about with her school bag.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry I'm late! I slept in, then I had to rush my shower, and I couldn't find my sneakers, then I had to get Steve to turn around more or less 2 minutes away from school 'cause I left my freakin' trumpet at home--" you and the receptionist stared at her while this girl rambled on at a thousand miles an hour, blinking in disbelief.
"ROBIN," the receptionist firmly butted in. "It's fine. You're here now. This is the new student you've been assigned," and she nodded her head towards you. You gave a small wave at Robin, still a bit shocked at the speed of the ramble. You introduced yourself to her and she seemed more than happy to see you shared all the same classes. The school bell rang and you both waved the receptionist goodbye. You had to practically run trying to keep up with Robin as she wanted to make sure you weren't late for your first lesson at Hawkins.
A few hours went by and it was time for lunch. Chaos in the corridors yet again. You and Robin got off to a great start, and you couldn't help but think that the receptionist was right in saying that they could be your new best friend. After grabbing some food from the cafeteria, you both sat down at a table that was filled with Robin's friends from band. She was idly staring at one of the girls further down the table. She looked like she was in band too, but it seemed like Robin was a bit hesitant to speak to her. You didn't bring it up, wasn't your business really. You began to eat your lunch and gaze at all the different cliques you could see in the hall. The Jocks, the Goths, the Math Nerds, and then your eyes fell upon the Freaks as you overheard someone call them. They didn't really look like they belonged together, but you could tell they were in some sort of group as they all wore matching t-shirts. From a distance, all that you could make out on the shirts were that they all had a red demonic face in the centre. The ages of the group all differed and eldest sat at the head of the table, and you presumed he was the leader. You were fixated on him. His hair was long and dark, curls balanced perfectly on his shoulders, denim cut-off/leather jacket combo helping solidify the metalhead persona. You couldn't help but stare at him as there just seemed to be something so alluring about him. He must've felt your eyes on him as he locked eyes with you suddenly. The shock of it made you blush bright, and you didn't know where to look, so you snapped your head back around to Robin. Luckily, she was still fixated on the girl near the end of the table so she didn't see you blushing straight away. "Hey, Robin?"
"Mmm?" she turned towards you absentmindedly. "'Sup?"
"Who, erm," you cleared your throat. "Who are those guys sat over there?" You nodded your head towards the guy and his friends you'd been ogling for the past 5 minutes.
"Oh, that's Hellfire. Or The Freaks as the Jocks like to call them," Robin replied with a hint of disdain on the word 'Jocks'. "Hellfire is just a Dungeons and Dragons group, nothing freaky about it at all, really. I'm friends with a couple of the guys in the group actually,"
You gulped. 'She knows them, oh god, she knows them... That guy is gonna spill that I was staring at him to Robin, oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fu--' your thought was interrupted by 'that guy' poking fun at the Jocks. You couldn't help but watch his every move. He was mesmerising. At the end of his speech, he looked over at you briefly and winked. Instant butterflies in the stomach. 'How the hell have I been here for 3 hours and already developed a stupid crush? Get a grip of yourself...' your inner monologue chastised. The bell rang for the end of lunch and you breathed a sigh of relief. Just another couple of hours to distract yourself and get to know Robin a bit more, then you can go home and try not to think of this Hellfire Guy.
The final bell of the day rang and you began to collect your things up.
"Hey, I have band practice now so I won't be able to walk out of school with you. But you're more than welcome to come sit in the hall and watch if you like?" Robin leaned over grabbing her trumpet case and shook it gleefully.
"I think I'm just gonna go straight home to be honest, but thank you. I should be able to survive walking out the front door," you smiled at her.
"Okay, cool, no probs," Robin smiled back at you. "I get picked up and dropped off home by my friend, Steve, like everyday. I can see if he can swing by and pick you up with me tomorrow morning if you'd like? Won't have to worry about riding the shitty school bus."
"Yeah sure, sounds good," you replied. You scribbled down your address and phone number on a bit of loose paper, and handed it to her. Robin placed it in her top pocket and said she'd speak to you later. You swung your rucksack onto your back and gave a small wave goodbye to Robin as you both walked out of the classroom in opposite directions.
You grabbed your Walkman from the side pocket of your rucksack and put on your headphones, the latest mixtape you made blocking out the noises of the outside world. There was a nice breeze blowing through the trees of Hawkins, helping create the best visuals for the fake music video in your head. You came close to the trailer park when a massive gust of wind blew your hair in front of your eyes and blocking your view of the path.
"Oof, hey, watch it--" a voice blurted out, and you bumped into the being which spoke, knocking your headphones off to hang around your neck. You managed to get your hair out of your vision and saw who you'd walked into, and blushed. "--oh, it's you. The girl who stares..." His face was stern. So much for trying to get the Hellfire guy out of your mind...
"I'm-- I'm so sorry," this is where you became the one who rambled, with your face slowly getting more and more red. "I should've tied my hair back when I left school, I knew how fucking windy out it was too, and oh god I didn't mean to stare at you earlier in the cafeteria, I'm new and just a bit awkward--" His smile began to grow as you kept digging yourself a bigger hole, trying not to laugh.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey... Don't worry about it," you looked up at the guy sheepishly. "We were all new kids at one point," He flashed you a quick wink like he did at lunch.
'Oh damn, he's charming too. Great. I'm fucked,' you thought. You had gained crushes on people quickly before but surely this was a new world record. "...sorry," you managed to squeak.
"No need for apologies, young lady, I was just kidding with you earlier. I don't mind you staring," a small smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. "I'd just maybe introduce yourself next time. I like to know the name of someone who can't keep their eyes off me," he brushed past you as he headed up towards the trailer park. "See ya later, sweetheart."
You stood there in disbelief. Did he really like that you were staring at him this lunch? Did... Did he just flirt with you too? Maybe Freak was a fitting name for the guy after all. You tried to brush it off, put your headphones back on, and carried on walking home.
What a day.
