woke up vaguely irritated about something and realized i was still pissed about this lol

i gotta talk about this here or im gonna lose my fucking mind. I posted on a music rec subreddit to see if I could find more songs like gretchen's song from cuckoo (im not easily influenced by hunter schafer playing bass shut up) and i was assuming i'd get a whole bunch of comments calling it shoegaze. what i was NOT expecting was someone saying, quote "i'd call it an unsubtle nick cave pastiche". i listened back through nick cave's 10 most popular songs to be sure. this jokester seems to have made the insane logical jump from "the tambourine in the background sounds like red right hand" to "this is a transparent copy of nick cave's entire discography". like??? bitch i know what nick cave sounds like, he doesnt sound like that. a pastiche??? seriously? you hear a song with an instrumental that sounds marginally similar to one in a nick cave song and you make an assertion THAT bold? jail.
