Thinking of changing the format of Ashburn Hollow from a novel to game of some kind.
We shall see.
Maybe I'll just make part of what I have a game and see how I feel about that.

10 Non-Lethal Injuries to Add Pain to Your Writing
While lethal injuries often take center stage, non-lethal injuries can create lasting effects on characters, shaping their journeys in unique ways. If you need a simple way to make your characters feel pain during a scene, here are some ideas:
Sprained Ankle
A common injury that can severely limit mobility, forcing characters to adapt their plans and experience frustration as they navigate their environment.
Rib Contusion
A painful bruise on the ribs can make breathing difficult and create tension, especially during action scenes, where every breath becomes a reminder of vulnerability.
Concussion
This brain injury can lead to confusion, dizziness, and mood swings, affecting a character’s judgment and creating a sense of unpredictability in their actions.
Fractured Finger
A broken finger can complicate tasks that require fine motor skills, causing frustration and emphasizing a character’s dependence on their hands.
Road Rash
The raw, painful skin resulting from a fall can symbolize struggle and endurance, highlighting a character's resilience in the face of physical hardship.
Shoulder Dislocation
This injury can be excruciating and often leads to an inability to use one arm, forcing characters to confront their limitations while adding urgency to their situation.
Deep Laceration
A cut that requires stitches can evoke visceral imagery and tension, especially if the character has to navigate their surroundings while in pain.
Burns
Whether from fire, chemicals, or hot surfaces, burns can cause intense suffering and lingering trauma, serving as a physical reminder of a character’s past mistakes or battles.
Pulled Muscle
This can create ongoing pain and restrict movement, providing an opportunity for characters to experience frustration or the need to lean on others for support.
Tendonitis
Inflammation of a tendon can cause chronic pain and limit a character's ability to perform tasks they usually take for granted, highlighting their struggle to adapt and overcome.

writing advice for characters with a missing eye: dear God does losing an eyes function fuck up your neck. Ever since mine crapped out I've been slowly and unconsciously shifting towards holding my head at an angle to put the good eye closer to the center. and human necks. are not meant to accommodate that sorta thing.

I may have to postpone my NovelNovember writing of Ashburn Hollow until next year or just not do NovelNovember entirely. I was doing well for the first few days, as I had combined this challenge with the 4TheWords november writing event, and already got past the 5k mark.
However, while I knew I could get over the hurdle of missing one day of writing on Saturday... I was not anticipating the sudden medical issues that really came front and center on Sunday. I spent most of my night in pain and without the motivation to write, and yesterday I spent quite a bit of time at the doctor and needing to rearrange my area to accommodate my new need for a cane.
For my own mental health I think I will need to drop the challenge. I won't stop working on Ashburn Hollow, in fact I will actually go back to prep work to smooth out a better outline for working on this at a later date. I just can't actually work on writing the novel itself right now.

NaNo Alternatives
Okay, real post time (but keep those boops booping) - You want to do NaNoWriMo tomorrow, but you don't want to go anywhere near the main organization and their website. Here's a list of alternatives you can try:
Rogue Writers - International group launched to provide an alternative for writers. Their website has challenges, free tools, and more.
myWriteClub - Word tracking tool.
Novlr - A writing app designed to help you meet your writing goals.
WriteTrack - Word tracking tool.
Shut Up and Write - Find in-person or online groups to write together with!
NoQuWriCo - A November writing challenge with tools, tips, and encouragement to make it through the month!
Writing Month - Write. A Month. Do It.
Your local library - If you did NaNo events through your library, chances are they're still doing it this year. Make sure you check in with all the resources you've used in the past, as they're likely still around.
Whatever you decide to do tomorrow, good luck! And remember, if you want to still use the NaNo website but don't like their AI policies and the rest of it, just don't give them money! Laugh to yourself, evilly, as you update your word count. It's very validating.
(Now back to booping.)

I FINISHED ALL MY PREPTOBER STEPS EARLY!
Technically I still want to make some picrews to show off more of the characters, but the actual important stuff is finished. I can enjoy the 30th and 31st entirely.
But speaking of characters picrews...
Say hello to our main character, August Tabler. He's got... a lot coming.

Media Preservation Monday
Yeah, yeah, as of this original post it's actually only Wednesday but hey, take this as a sign to take some initiative, and keep to it each Monday at minimum if you're actively writing!
What's Media Preservation Monday, you may ask?
MPM is your reminder to back up your writing at least three ways at least once a week or whenever you make major changes to your document(s).
Here's some incredibly easy ways to back up your writing:
One your Master Document(s), put a date on the file name, and every day you make changes, "Save As" the Document and change the date. Do this every time or day you make major changes.
Example: You start writing your Novella November Story on November 1st.
You name your master document "Novnov Project 11-01-2024"
The next day, you write some more, and at the end of your writing session, you go to save your document, and instead of simply hitting "Save" you choose "Save As" and save the new copy of the Document as "Novnov Project 11-02-2024".
You now have two copies of your project, and if you keep this up throughout the whole month, you will have a live snapshot of your writing progress.
Each day or after each major writing session, open up the folder containing your document, and back it up. The Easiest and simplest way to do this is to simply email it to yourself, but you can also create multiple backups by:
Save a copy of your dated Master Document(s) to different locations on your Hard-drive, to an external hard-drive, to a thumbdrive, etc.
If you're writing offline on a writing program like Libreoffice, upload a copy of your Master Document(s) to your preffered Cloud-based Writing Program of your choice.
Vice Versa: if you write on a Cloud-based writing program, download it to various offline-based locations.
Download the base document as well as download it as various ebook formats and send them to your ebook library on your phone or kindle or nook or reading app.
Make a personal discord server and upload the document/epub form of your Master Document(s) there [this is also a good way of making a kind of personal journal / diary etc]
Whatever you do, do not be complacent and assume nothing can happen to your writing. Back it up. Preserve it.
Don't have all of your hard work go down the drain because of one tiny unforeseen accident.
When it comes time to clean up your hardrive, always assume you don't have it backed up. Before deleting anything always take the time to copy it over to another physical drive or a cloud drive.
