I’m SO excited to announce this! I’m now taking submissions for Hairy Femme Mother #3. This is a zine that focuses on the nuances of femmes of all genders with body hair. I prioritize the voices of femmes of color and non-cis femmes but this is open to anyone who identifies as femme. Your submission will be printed in black and white but can include essays, poetry, photos, artwork, manifestos, etc. The submission can be any length but if you’re white and/or cis, please be mindful of the space you take up. Submission deadline is March 31, 2019. Send all submissions to hairyfemmemother@gmail.com . Submissions are not guaranteed to be published but I will do my best. The full story: 

I have known Niala for over 4 years now, and in all those years I’ve known her, she has been kind, helpful, and selfless. Recently she asked me to go with her on a trip to Nevada to pick up her little niece from a bad situation in which her mom was giving birth to her second child and the toddler had no one to watch over her. On that trip, Niala and I start talking and she starts sharing with me that in her efforts to help her niece’s mom, she and her grandma have fallen behind on the mortgage. Niala’s grandmother is elderly and disabled, so Niala gets paid by In Home Support Services to take care of her full time. She explains to me that every month they barely made their mortgage payment with that, but they really fell behind when they sent their entire one month mortgage payment to Niala’s cousin and her family so her and her children would not be evicted. During this conversation we start calculating things and figure out how truly behind she was. She needs $6,000 just to catch up. On top of this, on our drive back from Nevada, under an hour away from California, her car stops working. Niala, the toddler, and myself were stranded in the middle of the night with no means of help. Luckily our friend picked us up but we had to leave Niala’s car behind. Her transmission no longer works and that was her only means of transportation for her family, in which she bought groceries, went to school, and took her grandmother to her doctor appointments.We’re looking to put the rest towards her car. Niala was hesitant to create a GoFundMe, but I insisted. I said I would create it for her and that she deserved some help. Niala is a young black woman trying to make it like the rest of us. We often wait for health to decline or for people to have passed on to help them, when we can help them right now. If we all donate even just a little, we can help Niala in her efforts to save her home and her car. In addition to this gofundme, I’m taking it upon myself to help Niala’s source of income by selling things we no longer need at our local swap meet on the weekends, so if you’d like to support her with  that, that’s also greatly appreciated.
