Skipper is super eager to help Ash look after Griffin after Ash takes his brother out of veteran’s hospital. Seeing the little boy’s enthusiasm, Ash is reminded of his own happy childhood days before Griff was drafted. He remembers how he used to idolise his brother and see him as his hero just as Skip now sees him. Ash strives to be as good a big brother to Skip as Griff was to him.

“YEAH…Ash is too...” Too good … ? Too kind…? It was odd describing Ash in such a manner, but anyone who was able to meet him for more than a few second could see that he cared for the guys he took under his wing. That he wouldn’t kill unless provoked or given a damn good reason to. But Arthur…Arthur was slowly giving him a reason to. “ Sooner or later…Arthur’s going to end up as a dead man …”

Skip squinted longer at Alex, not quite convinced that there wasn’t something else going on. “Well, yeah, if you’re too stupid to back down and stop throwing Ash’s good nature in his face, you’re gonna get gunned down like a dog. He deserves it for how he works.”

“Goddamn bitch of an unsatisfactory situation,” he said, nodding sagely, the words slow and pronounced. He said it again quietly, brow knitting as he tried to pronounce it properly again.

“Now say it like you’re pissed off about a goddamn bitch of an unsatisfactory situation!” He encouraged, shaking his fist.

He smiled. “Wait, Wait, what are the words again? You went to fast!” He laughed as he slapped his knees, sitting crosslegged on the bed. @sa-yo-na-ra-eiji

“Okay, i’ll do it slower.” Skip said, raising his hands up again to go through the paddy cake motions at a slower speed with the words. “I went to a Chinese restaurant to buy a loaf of bread, bread, bread. They asked me what my name was, and this is what I said, said, said–”

“ TOO soft is exactly what I was hoping for actually. Apparently I hear the gang thinks I’m too hard and harsh” Ash pretended to muse. “But I think you’ll be a great replacement for him – you catch on faster. Alex’s kind of slow once in a while.” 

“Maybe they deserve a bit of boxing around the ears sometimes!” He huffed before looking aside, his scowl lifting just the tiniest bit at the compliment. “Once I’m in middle school, I’ll be grown enough to take over, right?”

“He doesn’t deserve to be made fun of. How would you feel if that was you?” He asked, like a true mother hen. Then, unlike a true mother hen, he tried valiantly to curse, tripping up on the word unsatisfactory and trailing off, cheeks pink.

Skip punched his palm before cracking his knuckles demonstratively. “I’m a big boy and I can defend myself. Besides, I don’t do nothin’ deserving of being made fun of.” He said before snickering at the attempt at profanity.

“A goddamn... Bitch of an... Un-satis-factory... Si-tu-ation.” He repeated slowly.

“ BUT that would leave me without a second. Besides, I kind of like Alex as a second…get’s people to talk to him when they don’t wan to talk to me.” The boss humorously mused, pretending to weigh the pros and cons of the situation with feigned seriousness. “Got any suggestions on who’ll take over for him once he hangs by the  bridge ? “

“I’ll take over if that’s what I have to do to get him gone.” Skip replied, crossing his arms tightly over his chest with an intense scowl. “He’s too soft, you don’t need him anyway.”

“WHAT ? Me ? I’m just fine – oh fuck !! ” Alex cried, jumping back from the scalding coffee cup he tried to grab in order to avoid giving the question an answer. He pressed his almost burnt hand close to him before sighing giving up. “ I’m just sick of Arthur pulling shit like this…”

Skip gave him a weird look at that ridiculous reaction. “I guess he was part of us at one time. He was a douche here so I’m not surprised he’s still a douche.” He shrugged. “I don’t think Ash will kill him, even for all that, but I’m sure he will find a way to stop him from hurting people.”
