//On the topic of writing: Herbert is very particular about his writing utensils and will buy them in bulk, although he barely ever loses them. If it's not the right pen or pencil, it feels wrong.
In Re-animator, he's seen taking notes with a pen - something fancy like a Montblanc Meisterst眉ck 164 Classique Ballpoint pen with black and gold trim from Germany or Switzerland that he absolutely brought back with him from Zurich - in his right hand.
A few minutes (and a murder) later, he's seen bopping Hill on the head with a regular old yellow, presumably Ticonderoga, #2 HB graphite pencil. With his right hand. And he begins taking notes. With his right hand.
However, in Bride, he's hastily scribbling notes into a copybook with his left hand. Granted, his right hand is occupied by a gun, but that will be addressed later.
In Beyond, he's seen taking notes with a Staedtler Noris HB graphite pencil, which I've come to understand is quite well-known. He's also using his left hand again.
The only explanation: Herbert is either naturally ambidextrous, or he spent hours in his youth training himself to write with both hands so he could quickly switch back and forth and continue conducting experiments (or...holding a gun) and taking notes at the same time.
EDIT: Thanks to @meomonstrumo for reminding me about the pencil scene. He doesn't write but...he definitely has about ten of those identical pencils in the pocket of his lab coat. At all times.
