was talking to a coworker and realised i could not for the life of me remember his name but i was too embarrassed to ask because we've spoken multiple times so mid-conversation i started concocting a plan to nudge the conversation towards the ID photos on our building passes so that i could be like oh my ID photo is awful haha the camera they use to take these has a real talent for making me look as unphotogenic as possible and then he would say oh yes me too haha everyone says that (because they do) and then i would be able to say well let me see yours it can't be as bad as mine! and he would show me his ID because we are coworkers and why wouldn't he and this would allow me to see his building pass which of course would have his name on it and then i would be able to say well yours is perfectly nice it must be me that's the problem! and then we would have a polite chuckle about it and i would have his name without needing to ask for it and he would be none the wiser and all would be well but then before i could execute this fine plan a little voice in my head went "so this is some light yagami bull shit you are about to pull" which was such a violent reality check it shocked me completely out of my embarrassment and i went "hey im so sorry your name has slipped my mind could you remind me" and he did and it was fine.

You know something I’ve figured out in the past few months as someone who 1. Doesn’t have a lot of friends and 2. Actually finds it very hard to make friends is that the fastest quickest route to befriending people is to engage with them like they’re already your friends

What do I mean by that? I mean, show up places and do things and talk to people. I joined the amateur theatre group in my city and a creative collective and I forced myself to go to meetups when I was tired and nervous about it but even moreso— I met a couple very cool people while working on a theatre project and I forced myself to ask for their numbers

And then I forced myself to text them! It felt so cringy and lame but that was just a fucking lie in my brain! I invited them to see movies and I sent them book & video game & movie recommendations and you know what? They appreciated that! They texted me back! I sent messages like “hey! How’s school?” Or “do you have any advice on grant applications?” And “you wanna get a beer sometime this week?” And every single time it felt like I was flinging myself off a big dark precipice into nothing and every single time I got a friendly response back

So like, the cringe is fucking fake, if you want people want to be your friend sometimes you literally just have to decide that they’re your friends and talk to them as such

"We trained a pigeon to recognise cancerous cell clusters and somehow they're really good at it" okay great, that's something that could plausibly be a thing.

In Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels and its Super Mario All-Stars version, there is a "brother byte" in the game's memory that determines which brother the current playable character is. It has two valid possible values, one for Mario (Brother 0) and one for Luigi (Brother 1), and 254 invalid ones, resulting in various unintended brothers (as seen in this previous post).

Most invalid brothers cause the game's ending to simply glitch in typical ways, however, Brother 12 has a particularly amusing way in which his presence is handled. Upon seeing Peach in her cage, Brother 12 continuously runs to the left against the edge of the screen, and continues his running animation even after Peach teleports him to her cage after noticing him.

This results in the impression that Brother 12 is not interested in being kissed by Peach and is desperately trying to get away from her.
