Anyway I really haven't liked a lot about what they've done with Bobby lately (Vecchio's infinity comic aside) but I just find it so weird that they're latching onto *checks notes* freezing part of a planet and beating a dragon (both things Bobby has already canonically done or things he has already exceeded in canon) as the tipping point for Bobby to explore his limits?

Except like. We've had this conversation no less than three times now, and there have been other more impressive things Bobby has done that in-universe did inspire "shit, how much farther can I go?" moments- except then canon did nothing with it.

Literally, this motherfucker:

+ beat the literal cosmic personification of the concept of Oblivion

+ froze damn near the entire earth

+ froze hell

+ reformed himself from atoms after being vaporized by Northstar and Aurora (while NOT in his iceform)

+ reformed himself again after being obliterated in an explosion set by Mystique

+ has near complete control of his atoms to the point that he can filter out toxins by replacing his entire body with uncontaminated moisture

+ With Cannonball's help, discovered he can control heat reactions to the point that he can mess with the Blackbird's engines and no-sell Sunfire's powers

and that's just off the top of my head from the limited runs I've read. Bobby constantly being surprised by his incredible power and resolving to do something with it only for Marvel to do NOTHING with it is not good story telling. Looking at what this means for his character and how it changes his place in the X-team is what I'd want to see from Bobby, except as usual marvel seems to have trouble writing a nuanced gay character and following through on his arc.

Bobby being someone who does not shy from violence or threats to keep his loved ones safe or avenge them is a character trait of his I really think is important to his characterization and I don't want to see it get warped to a bloodthirsty persona or whatever the fuck they're doing. I haven't read the arc where he got kidnapped by Loki but it seems like if he's going to pick a fight with the frost giants, it should tie back to that somehow- except it doesn't?? And he's just picking a fight for no reason? Ugh. At least Duggan isn't writing him anymore and I hope Al Ewing (if he is in X-Men Red) gives him a nuanced, thoughtful characterization even if he's not a main focus.

It would also be nice if they remembered he was a gay Jewish man too. Logan's holiday infinity comic proves SOMEONE remembers so now they'd better commit and bring it on the page.
