I mean, chasing tornadoes especially makes a fair amount of sense, and many chasers are meteorologists (at least part-time). Being able to get instruments near or even in a tornado is far more effective than piecing things together after the fact. Twister got that much right, at least.

The fact that a lot of those guys are adrenaline junkies is just a side-benefit.

I gotta say, there are very few things more Quintessentially American than Storm Chasing. Seriously.

Like, "Hey, see that big ass scary storm? The one that's probably hella destructive and pretty sure to have tornados and other crazy shit? Let's drive into it and see what happens."
