HELLO TUMBLR! BEEN A FEW YEARS!
I'm looking to resurrect the TF2 Parade Group for DragonCon 2025 and considering I was quite active on Tumblr when we originally walked (2015/2016 IIRC) I thought it would be advantageous to post about it here!
The Discord server is our main form of communication and will also have a link to the sign up form, since we need a headcount before Feburary 15th.
Personal Note: I have been alive and cosplaying this whole time. Check out my IG if you're curious, as it's primarily about my cosplay and builds.

Hi guys! Just a theory right now but I got to thinking about obsidians sword and the writing on it

At first sight I had no idea what to make of it but then I remembered that most of SU is animated in korea, and I looked up Korean signs that would match some of these ( letters? Kanji? I’m not v knowledgeable about Korean just an fyi )

So I looked at this and found almost unquestionable similarities with some of the letters

So I tried to input the writing on the sword into translate ( Korean to English) and it autocorrected to two similar looking words

‘ the ‘ and ‘ everyone ‘. Very interesting..
This was already quite exiting, but I put the two words together and wouldn’t you know it

“ all of us” indeed. Obsidian is the embodiment of the togetherness of all four main crystal gems, so it makes sense. If this holds any weight it’s a beautiful sentiment, I love you crewniverse 💝

Main Takeaways from the SU podcast this week (7th February 2019)
Lars and Lion are not immortal, they just age very slowly, so they will eventually die.
Lars can summon a portal but hasn’t discovered it yet, apparently it will be hilarious when it does happen. (Future episode hopefully?)
Obsidian has future vision but it’s hard to decipher because of everything going on.
THOSE FUSION JADES ARE PHYSICALLY OK (they might need a little time emotionally after what they just went through, but they are free to live as who they are now)
Pearl’s maternalness comes form Dee Dee’s personality.
Steven is in control of his aging process and if he were to die Pink Steven would also cease to exist.
Steven maturing is based off Zach maturing
Steven is the only one who can take things/ people in or out of Lion’s mane. If Steven would to take Lars into Lion’s mane, Lars would be fine as long as he didn’t stick his head through his own portal area. If he were to do that his head would come out of his hair but then he would be in a void and infinite Lars’ would be coming out of infinite Lars’ hairs until he took his head back out.
The Frybo episode was at least partially inspired by “The Thing”

In the last SU Podcast I had a question answered, which was awesome! But then… Kat Morris mentioned that as a trade off for his new powers, being undead, and such, Lars may have lost his sense of taste. So he can eat food occasionally to sustain his body, but can’t enjoy it.
It made me…very…sad. Especially since Lars loves to bake. So naturally, I had to draw it. 8′)

The importance of Rainbow Quartz 2.0
Leaving everything else that happened in Change Your Mind aside because WHAT AN EPISODE, I felt like really just focusing on Pearl and Steven fusing and the whole process that led to this moment. Like just think back on where Pearl and Steven’s relationship started off
Pearl having difficulty processing the fact that she was gonna lose Rose
“what was she thinking, she can’t have a baby”
To Pearl being inconsolable when Steven was born and Rose died
Then Pearl trying to understand Steven but not quite being able to understand that Steven is his own gem and not Rose anymore
As time passed and Steven moved in with them, Pearl begins acting like an overly protective mother figure to him…
….always keeping in mind that Rose might still be watching her “ do you remember this place, do you have any of her memories?” and “ well, I think you’re pretty great”
And that time Steven jumped, and Pearl just let him fall. Because she was just so done with everything
To the moment where Pearl wanted to take Steven along with her to be able to show him the wonders of space
…. and then she accepts that she’s fine being on Earth with Steven
Steven trying to fix things between his dad and Pearl. And Pearl singing a heartbreaking song about losing Rose, a song that Steven had to listen to “what does it matter it’s already done, now I’ve got to be there for her son”
But even during those snippets of hurt, loss and being unable to move on, Pearl still finds it in her to be able to love Steven and remain protective of him

Then the moments where Steven starts formulating questions about Pearl’s past and Pink Diamond, and Pearl is physically being restricted to talk about it, leading to Steven ending up in dangerous situations

And then Pearl finally breaking free from the last order that Pink Diamond gave her, and opening up about herself to Steven
… She had been wanting to tell him for so long
Then Steven validates Pearl’s feelings, relieving her of all the guilt she felt, by telling her that “You took her on this whirlwind tour of Earth and then she wanted to live here with you forever” (big gay energy tbh)
With this the chapter closed, all the secrets are left behind. All the resentment. Their relationship has reached the point where Pearl has accepted Steven as his own person, an individual separate from Rose, And Steven finally understands the position where Pearl is coming from as he got to have a look into her deepest emotions and most hidden traumas. From this point on, it only became a matter of time before we would see their fusion, and then it happened.
It happens during a moment where they are at complete comfort with one another. And their love for each other reigns supreme and is pure and truthful, Steven and Pearl could finally fuse.

change your mind reveals pink’s aura and its effect on gems
Blue diamond has control over emotion. By expanding her aura outward, she can forcefully illicit emotional reactions from other gems.
Yellow has control over physical form. She can electrocute and poof gems immediately, destroying their projected physical existence.
White has control over mind. She can completely posses a gem, negating their own free will entirely.
In this episode, though it’s not initially apparent, we get to see Pink’s.
It is the blush on white diamond’s face, on every gem’s face in the room.
This blush that turns gems pink, just like blue’s turns everything blue.
Like yellow’s electricity.
Like white diamond’s eye rays.
Pink’s ability is the very same thing that brought the diamonds together thousands of years ago, “with a joke or a song.” It’s what brings them together yet again in this episode.
It helps free the crystal gems as well as the other diamonds from White’s control, restoring what makes them who they are.
And it happens when Steven makes a joke.
Pink’s aura is laughter. It’s celebration. It’s joy.
It’s soul.

Okay, but.
Do you know what Rainbow Quartz (1 and 2) really proves?
Pearl is a fucking show off.
Sardonyx loves an audience. Rainbow Quartz 1 showed off for Greg in front of the camera, ensuring it would be saved forever (and it was). Rainbow Quartz 2 was dramatic and artistic as fuck.
What do they all have in common? Pearl. Look at Garnet and Steven when they fuse. They’re loud and boisterous, but don’t like to show off. Steven and Amethyst fusing are basically one big child (not that I don’t love Smoky – that’s just their personality and it’s fine). Rainbow Quartz 2.0? Fucking announces themself with a dramatic flourish, just like Sardonyx, complete with something blocking their view until they’re ready to reveal themself (Sardonyx has her curtain, RQ 2 uses their umbrella).
Pearl was made and trained to be quiet and basically part of the wall unless called upon to do something for someone else. Her fusions let her show off a part of herself that she never gets to display – the part that wants to be the center of attention, twirling and dancing and laughing and making jokes. Uninhibited and free.
It’s beautiful.

The ending of Change Your Mind wasn’t “rushed,”
people are just misunderstanding White.
When White finally shows a flaw, it’s a downhill battle, because what she’s been trying to do for so long was maintain perfection. No doubt she was the creator of all Gems, and the one who determined how society would run. She needs to do her best, always, lest things fall apart.
But she hasn’t always been a perfectionist.
This is perfectionism. Shoving yourself inside other Gems so that they can’t think for themselves—so you’re the only one making decisions.
It’s easy to be perfect if nobody can think for themselves.
But she wasn’t always like that. Blue Diamond says so herself—they all used to spend time together, and even laugh. Which doesn’t sound much like the White Diamond we knew, does it?
That’s because White’s perfectionism was a response to Pink’s death.
We’ve seen the other Diamonds’ reactions to Pink’s death. Blue’s is the most obvious:
She became incredibly depressed all the time—so much so that she weaponized her sadness.
Yellow is a slightly more complex Diamond: her response to Pink’s death was to bury everything. Don’t feel anything. Move on like nothing happened. Yes, she’s sad. But she can’t show it.

She’s cold. Calculating. She’s weaponized her anger over Pink’s death.
Which brings us to White. How could a leader, the one Gem who holds Homeworld together, show any sort of emotion? She can’t be angry. She most certainly can’t be sad. What effect would that have on her Gems?
So she keeps everything perfect. Because if everything’s perfect, nothing like Pink’s death will ever happen again.
She weaponizes her perfectionism. She robs other Gems of their being. She extends her will into anyone who shows deviance, because the Empire cannot crack again.
Until it does.
White gets embarrassed, and she shows color—she shows a flaw, for the first time since Pink has died. And the world doesn’t fall apart.
And that makes her realize: if she can blush, and be sad, and flustered, and nothing bad will happen, maybe she can go back to being herself.

So she does. Begrudgingly, but she does.
And she starts her path back to normalcy.

One of my favourite details about this finale has to be how Pearl looks after reforming because it’s so telling of her character growth like
Look at how she starts out, chronologically
While in servitude, bending to her intended purpose, she is dressed in the epitome of femininity. A lovely perky dress, lots of layers, lots of frills. This is what Pearl was intended to be by the system.
Now the more she rebels and starts leaving the system and her purpose behind her, her clothes abandon the classical femininity.
Even in her first known reforming, already she is opting out of it

Her outfit is more practical, she started wearing pants, but there is still a large influence of who she used to be with the dress tunic.
And through her reformations, we see her start losing more and more of that societal expectations of her in the form of her outfits.
But the expectations she puts up for herself are still there, because she can’t help but base her entire sense of self worth around another person (Pink and later on, Rose, and even after that, Steven)
So remnants of what she thinks is expected of her still remain.
Even the clothes she chooses to wear when she picks out human clothes are polar opposites of what the gem society expects her to wear
and of course, the infamous Rebel Pearl outfit, which I am sure is where a good part of her healing really started (because it marked her moving on from Rose), and upon which her current reformation is based on
and the final reformation, which completely abandons the classical femininity, frills and pzazz of the first form she had. She is still very feminine, yes, but in a way that is her own, not in what is thrust on to her by expectations.
This is who Pearl, just Pearl, without having to depend on others, who doesn’t build her entire sense of self around others, is. Her self worth no longer depends on Pink, or Rose, or Steven, or anyone, but herself.
Pearls growth is one of the biggest ones in the show, and it shows so much in how she reforms.
