“YOU GUYS ARE WAY TOO nice, wow!”
He’s very quick to roam his hands over the device, turning it in front of his beaming, curious face.
“How’d you manage to get technology that can move so many different items at once? I just keep frying circuits left and right!”

@skyreaching || From Here
‘Because he knows him.’ Heh, yeah, he sure does. He knew that ‘no don’t’ equated to ‘yes do’ like an instant and ancient echidna translator, so dissuading him only made it worse. A smirk rose as he looked off to the side, thumbing the underside of his chin with a sheepish chuckle. “Of course I’m sure about this.” he lied. “And you’re not wrong, and this is why you call the shots.” That he and Sonic usually ignored, since the dangers of something stupid always put a thrill in their idiotic bodies. “But I’m still gonna do it.” There it is.
Tumblr media
With a clenching of fists. Legs threw themselves off the ground, curling into a red ball mid-air, circular form bowling down the grassy hill, gaining momentum in spades as the echidna’s pace quickened. Faster and faster would he whirl, before launching from a self-made ramp that shattered the minute he got into the air. High in the sky, all kinds of tricks would be performed mid-skydive. Punches, kicks, poses that were definitely out to mock Sonic’s leg in the air-hand underneath… a thumbs up, a thumbs down, a diver’s type of furious twirling and flipping. It all made for a rather impressive showing of airborne prowess before a thunderous shockwave of quaking dirt and uprooted earth pounded back down on his landing, grinding on the grass as he slid down the remainder of the hill, and moving to come to a stop. Okay, well, a-attempting to come to a stop, Trying to, desperately trying, oh Chaos he had a whole lot of momentum.
Heels dug as he reached the bottom, struggling to quit the speed he’d gained, only to. crash into some shack that sat down the lane from the bottom of the hill. Looked like storage? Knuckles didn’t know, the diamonds were so high in front of his eyes, it was hard to tell.
     OF COURSE HE IS.
“GOOD to know my opinion is always taken into account,” he deadpans, rolling his eyes for a brief second, a bit of a smile easing into his features. His shoulders are down, his tails aren’t bristling or lashing, his ears are still up-- it’s all in good fun; it’s silly, what Knuckles wants to do, so why wouldn’t it be in good fun? This isn’t life or death, he isn’t about to dive bomb into a horde of Eggman lackeys or anything serious. Even if he was about to do that, though, he imagines it’d be a fifty-fifty percent chance to finding himself with the same answer, the same echidna rolling down the hill.
It’s all part of his charm, though, really--if sometimes irritating. At least it’s predictable, and Knuckles is anything but a pushover.
His ears twitch, eyes fixed on his friends take off. Clearing the distance between himself and where Knuckles had previously stood, he peers down at the ramp. Tails can see the shaking of the structure, can feel it tremble under Knuckles’ trayectory and his fingers. He wouldn’t need his eyes to take notice of it, to be very aware that the supports of the thing wouldn’t pass a safety test. Knuckles isn’t an architect and, to be fair, neither is Tails. He can take apart and out back together any machine, something with gears and a place to be, and that’s his bread and butter-- that’s his specialty, his thing, what he’s good at.
Granted, he isn’t always labeled ‘the engineer’ of the group, but ‘the smart one’-- which, really, is a blanket term for ‘he knows complicated words and can make cool stuff’, in laymans terms. He may not know the most of arquitecture intricacies, but he’s dabbled, certainly, and knows enough to bring up concerns for Knuckles’ health post-landing. It’s the whole reason he oppossed to the idea in the first place. That, and there’s no landing pad. That much downwards momentum is a lot to carry to a standstill, especially when you’re dropping into it rather than just-- running from having rolled down a hill, or something similar. The splintering of the ramp reaches all the way to Tails’ fingers, shakes the rocky floor under his sneakers. He yelps, stumbling back in surprise, landing after his tails reflexively move out from underneath him.
Sure, Knuckles’ tricks are cool, Tails will be the first to say as much, and he has to laugh at the obvious mocking call back to Sonic’s cheesy poses. The fact there’s so many in such a short span of time adds to the effect-- it’s like he’s edited it all in with quick cuts from clip to clip in post. The inevitable crash is what keeps him anxious, straining his smile ever so slightly.
He hadn’t expected the ramp to break like that, and while they’d avoided it collapsing under Knuckles and covering him in debris, now he is absolutely certain Knuckles isn’t going to exactly land like a ballerina.
Tumblr media
And he doesn’t, not exactly. He lands on his feet, and that bodes well enough, until heloses control over his own speed and crashes into-- wait, where did that shack come from?
Namesakes bristling along with his wince, Tails straightens them out before taking off after Knuckles.
“Knuckles!,” he calls out after touching down, taking a bit of broken wall and hauling it away, to clear up the area and get to asses the damage. “You alright in there?”

What would you think of a reformed Eggman? Err... Robotnik?
Tumblr media
“WELL… IF YOU’D BROUGHT UP the idea a few years ago… He was fine in Lost Hex, even though the fact that he needed me and Sonic around was a lot his doing– he even saved me from getting crushed by a robot. That Eggman… if I squint, I could see maybe getting along with, I guess.”

How fast can you run and fly.
Tumblr media
“PRETTY FAST, IF I DO say so myself! I can fly faster than I can run, and I can keep up with Sonic sometimes if I really try– I just can’t do it for as long as he can. I can run for longer, though, since I don’t need to worry about acceleration and carrying my own weight.”

Well.. Technically no? We all have names, we just choose not to show our true selves. Some of us are either too shy or prefer it that way, sadly.... Or if you're me, you're anxiety causes your heart to feel heavy and pound so much you can't talk to new people. ^^;
Tumblr media
“OH, YOU DON’T NEED TO be anxious, really! Especially if you’re being cool enough to give me a gift!”
He fixes the new goggles on his head, standing a bit prouder.
“I really appreciate you giving me something when you’re shy, though. That’s super nice of you!”

fighteternally‌:
The worry in Miles’ voice; it makes him angrier: why is he worried? Why does he give a crap!? Sonic exhaled, again, his teeth chattering just slightly. He could barely focus. His head felt like it wanted to split itself wide open; his heart was racing. His chest continued to heave, but he managed, stepping away from the younger fox,
“I’m fine, now, get out of here! Go!” He’d sooner die than accept any form of pity, of help. Especially from Miles. God, that worrying voice made him want to vomit again.
Sonic heaved, turned away from Miles, tried to steady himself. Alright, calm down. Think. Why is this happening? Well, because that bastard took away his chaos energy, of course. But what else? That couldn’t just be it— Nothing in Sonic’s life was that simple, that easy.
Tumblr media
“I’M NOT BLIND, I CAN tell you’re not fine!”
He still keeps his distance, not wanting to provoke the other anymore than whatever-this-is already had. A cold? Maybe, but it’d have to be somewhere between a small and severe one if he looks so clearly off. The shivering and nausea together seem to make a complelling case..
“I heard you the first time,” Tails replies, some amalgamation of frustration and worry seeping into his words. The frustration is only there if you look, though-- the typical Sonic stubborness is just irrtating to simmer down at times, despite Tails’ patience.
“Can you at least sit down?”

Well, that’s certainly one way to get him instantly irritated. Coming from someone he’s basically never spoken to who always associates with that blue faker, the question prompts him to bare his teeth and groan internally. Being sassed by a kid who doesn’t know what he’s talking about is the last thing he might be in the mood for-
Shadow’s annoyance dims when the fox explains his curiosity, though. Where he was inclined to turn his back on him a second ago, the hybrid now shifts to properly face him, eyeing him up and down like he’s gauging the extent of his interest. It couldn’t hurt to demystify that theory, he supposes.
Tumblr media
“Nothing at all, if you must know. My shoes have nothing to do with my speed.” The answer comes out a bit aggressively, nonetheless. One could easily assume that this isn’t the first time he deals with that sort of accusation. “They just allow me to hover so I can skate instead of run. The actual movement is all mine.” He wants to make a comment on how a supposed genius should have been able to make that observation himself, but refrains from it, just in case the mechanic might in fact just want to learn something new.
Even the best of them still fail to live up to Gerald, it seems.
“I was a fast runner same as your friend, once. Running can be damaging, though. Hitting the ground with every step - it can seriously mess up your joints over time. Maybe not enough to make a difference within a lifetime, but the professor knew I was likely to last longer than that. He designed these shoes so I could use my speed safely, indefinitely.”
His expression softens as he talks, recalling his creator’s observations, his concerns, how hard he worked to invent and adjust something that would allow him to be comfortable, always. It was to that care, to that memory, that Shadow had vowed to use these shoes as often as he could. Tails didn’t need to know that, though. “I just got used to them.”
He nods along, ears twitching as he soaks up the information. For all of Gerald’s... eccentricities, to put it nicely, Tails can’t deny the man’s intelligence. Even he wouldn’t have thought about something so far in the future as that-- he would’ve brought it up to Sonic as a proposition otherwise. Not that Sonic would agree to it, since he thinks every aspect of running is integral to the experience. The wind in your face, the drumming on the ground, the risk of swallowing a bug or two (which has actually happenned and Tails has offered to think up a solution only to be told that isn’t necessary).
With Sonic, though, it won’t make a difference whether he hovers or not-- he isn’t immortal like Shadow is. Having to think in a completely different mindset to create a livelihood for someone who works in a completely different framework than anyone else... Shadow’s a bit intimidating, also a bit off-putting, but Tails can’t see past his intrigue right now.
Tumblr media
“I never would have thought of that! A hundred years of normal running probably won’t be too bad, but for longer than that... that makes a lot of sense!”
Out of the box thinking, reframing... he ought to do that more often. How can he make things last longer? Be helpful for longer? He thinks about it reasonably enough, sure, his inventions would keel over a month post creation otherwise-- but he can shoot for longer...
“Was it hard to get used to skating around all the time?”

“…but I don’t feel comfortable just turning the other cheek here. Are you sick?”
Sonic’s quills twitched, and he rounded on Tails, snapping and spitting at him,
“I SAID to LEAVE, MILES! NOW!” His voice, it sounds, angry, but not directed towards Tails: its inward. It’s self-deprecating. The second that anger rises, Sonic looks even worse: he sways, a hiccup leaving him before he turned and actually vomited where he stood. That rise in negative emotions, something in him had, felt horrid.
Sonic exhaled, wiping at his mouth, chest heaving. He felt clammy, and shivered some. Was he getting sick?
HE SEES SONIC’S QUILLS MOVE before he can quite register what that means-- Sonic isn’t the fastest thing alive for nothing, and for all of Tails’ abilities, he doesn’t have Sonic’s signature reflexes.
Tails cries out in surprise, fur bushing out and making him appear taller than he really is, scrambling to put some distance between his and the Sonic alternate’s sudden anger. Golden ears twitch and angle back, muscles stiff and heart momentarilly stilled. Being yelled at by Sonic was one thing-- one thing that had happenned before, albeit sparingly. Being yelled and called Miles by Sonic is another, and much more unsettling. He freezes in place, the heart that’s now at his feet like a magnet sticking to the ground.
He’d expected some form of a negative response to his insistance, but-- when even was the last time his Sonic had called him Miles not jokingly?
Tumblr media
Just as Tails had caught Sonic’sapprehension before getting spat at, he notices the uneven footing, and just like another magnet, his hand shoots out towards the blue hedgehog before he can give the command to his arm to move, but after he notices what he’s doing and barely manages to not touch the rattled hedgehog. Something’s wrong, he’s beyond sure of that now.
“You are sick!” he exclaims, voice rattling with worry. “I know what you told me, but something’s very clearly wrong-- are you shivering?”
