“The things one can express with the hands...” – Robert Bresson
“A work of archival criticism that forgoes the language of rigour for that of rapture... here are hands – votive, tender, purloining, trembling – that make me want to raise my own hands in gratitude to this mysterious poet.” - Sukhdev Sandhu, Sight & Sound (best films of 2014)

AnimSchool Classtime - Posing the Mouth for 3D Animated Characters from AnimSchool on Vimeo.
AnimSchool Tips: Posing the Mouth for 3D Characters Whether you are animating a complicated Lip Sync or just posing a character to look their best, there are two details that are often overlooked: the teeth and the tongue. When your character has their mouth closed, you don't need to worry about their teeth, but what about when they are smiling, laughing, crying, or any other open-mouthed emotion? That's when the teeth come into play. Lucky for you Animschool instructor Rohini Kumar has an amazing tip on how to approach a character’s teeth and tongue in animation. The answer is simple, don't get caught up in 3D, take it back a step and think about it like you were making a drawing. When drawing would you meticulously draw in the top and bottom teeth so that they fill the majority of the mouth? Probably not, because when it comes down to it, it's much more appealing to only show some of the top teeth and a hint of the bottom. By thinking about these small details as sketch artists as well as animators, we are able to create appealing asymmetrical poses that not only look right but feel right. At AnimSchool, we teach students who want to make 3D characters move and act. Our instructors are professionals at film and game animation studios like Dreamworks, Pixar, Sony Pictures, Blizzard & Disney. Start your animation journey in our accredited online animation program at animschool.edu (ACCSC)

Freezy Elsa shot from Frozen 2. I did my character animation progression but also included the tech anim pass to highlight just how much the FX/tech anim work adds to these films, not to mention our incredible lighting crew. Huge respect for all these artists.
