OPERATION: TRYING NEW CATAPULT; FAILED.        From a distance, two heads could be seen coming out from behind the catapult; or as they now rather call it: ‘THE HIDING PLACE’ after their mistake could have almost resulted in terrible consequences.    And he was the Chief’s nephew too. . .

❝ Sorry, Hisui. The string got loose before we could fix the aim!  ❞    Shouted Rokuta; apologetically.    Letting Nanasuke follow after him, putting a hand next to his mouth as if the gesture was going to help carry his voice with the distance.    Both forgetting to take out their masks.

                                                                   NANASUKE AND ROKUTA HAD CALLED IT A BREAK after a couple of minutes of training.    Clashing their weapons in a friendly manner, until the younger approached, inviting herself in the training grounds to spar with one whose weapon seemed similar to hers.

When the Chief introduced her to the group the two couldn’t help but secretly worry–    Would a little girl be able to stand her ground against the big demons they encounter from time to time?    The girl seemed serious at first.        COLD AND DISTANT, but who knew there was some cockiness in her?

Nanasuke tilted his head; slightly.    Rokuta boasted a sincere laugh as he gave them both their space.    THIS WAS GOING TO BE INTERESTING. . .

❝ I’ll try not to.  ❞    Nanasuke said; returning her cockiness; taking a defensive stance with weapon in hand.

“Have you ever used a(n) __ before?”

“I think I’m going to feel that tomorrow.” 

“If you can lift me up, then you can lift these weights just fine.” 

“On a scale of one to ten, how much did that hurt?”

“Here, you put your feet like this…” 

“Relax. I’m trying to help.” 

“Can you teach me how to __?”

“God, we stink.” 

“Are you doing okay?” 

“Are you alright?” 

“If I do fifteen push-ups, can I be done for the day?” 

“Come on! Another round!” 

“You can win this time!”

“Work your angle a little more and you got it perfect!” 

“What are you doing up at this hour?” 

“Where did you get that bruise?” 

“Hey, no, stop. You’re going to break your fingers punching like that.”

“  it  is  an  episode  (  6  )  that  once  again  stresses  how  precious  the  demon  slayers  are  to  setsuna .   ”   –– hishida .

although the director was specifically talking about episode 6 when he confirmed that the demon slayers are precious to setsuna  ,  i think this episode & the previous one  (  10  &  11  )  demonstrated exactly that .  their scenes were short & was the more extra out of the other two stories  (  towa & moroha’s  )  but those short minutes were enough to show that setsuna cares about them a lot when she felt guilty over her lack of participation during the new moon due to the lose of her powers  (  & extra heavy sleep  )  that she tried to make do by writing down steps / plans  on how to deal with the demons that were going to show up that night  ;  & that the demon slayers reciprocate the feeling by staying awake all night to protect her & even honor her plans by putting them into action  (  even the easiest ones when kohaku would ask hisui what to do when a demon was a certain size & then say that he didn’t need to have asked once he got an  answer.  )

trust building is an important factor in setsuna’s arc  ,  especially if she wants to learn to master her naginata -  yukari no tachikiri , like hisui told her in previous episodes .  & compared to season one  ,  setsuna has shown a huge jump when it comes to trusting in others .  in these two last episodes , she has shown that she has started to rely on others by letting them take care of the demon (  & putting her safety in their hands  )  while she slept .

❝  so? is it true? ❞  nanasuke’s question was met with a sigh by his robust companion.    rokuta couldn’t mutter a single word, deciding to shake his head instead.    remorse and sorrow easily seen on features; nanasuke mimicking the other’s face with the same sorrowful face.

they were not so close to the half demon girl like the chief, his nephew and their group’s nekomata, but a fair share of missions together with her allowed them the honor to be closer to her than most.    too cold and distant to reach, but a caring warmth anyone fighting by her side could probably feel.    it was never meant to be her.    of that, the two demon slayers were convinced.    `always stronger and powerful; a unique grace she carried in her proud strides.    and yet here they are . . .    and there she was . . .    gone.

❝ now, what? ❞

❝ I’m afraid . . .  I don’t know. ❞

a turn of rokuta’s head was enough for nanasuke to follow his line of sight; two pair of eyes staring at the chief’s hut.    tonight, they were not the only ones mourning, and were not the only ones who will mourn tomorrow, for the part of their family that was taken away from them.
