This is an idea I've been playing around with for awhile, and I finally worked out a design I'm happy with. The outer fill patterns combine where their sections overlap, and the resulting patterns are more intricate than their component motifs would suggest. Blackwork embroidery on blue 14-count Aida cloth.

Rabbot, Old West AU! (but not really)

The whole story is set around the 1900s in Pittsburgh, obviously. Jack is a train robber on the run from the law, trying to make his way to Canada. Robby is a doctor in Pittsburgh but lives in a nearby satellite city.

While avoiding the main cities, Jack takes some sketchy rides, and during one of them he ends up with a serious injury to his leg. That's how he finds himself walking around like a moribund man in a satellite city of Pittsburgh. That's how he passes out in front of a simple house, begging to just die to not endure this pain.

Michael is a second-generation immigrant from a russian jewish family and has been working at Mercy Hospital for at least a decade. He loves Pittsburgh, but to him, the city is growing too fast, so he prefers the life in a satellite town.

When Robby finds a man almost dead on his doorstep, he feels like has no other option than taking him in and caring for him. That includes performing one of the most difficult surgeries he’s ever done, an amputation of a severely infected leg.

To Jack, it feels like a miracle when he wakes up alive in a strange room, being cared for by one of the most beautiful men he’s ever seen.

Robby, for some insanity that took him according to his friend Dana, let the strange man recover in his house.

They navigate life roughly, badly and full of half-truths while falling in love slowly.
