See when Alfred says shit like "That evil little child with anger issues is not like you, a grown man with anger issues, because you're my special little pumpkin who just gets cranky some time whereas he was born Wrong." the reasonable thing to assume is that Alfred is being biased due to his personal connection with Bruce and his classism. Unfortunately so many writers pushing terrible narratives use him and his "wisdom" as a mouthpiece for their agendas that at this point I generally assume we're meant to believe he's telling the truth that Bruce, grown adult, punching criminals that are already subdued is fine but Jason, preteen, doing that exact same thing is Bad. On the bright side I love making long text posts complaining about bad comics so this mini series is off to a great start.

Okay so I made that comment well over a year ago at this point, so I may not be as up to date on the discourse as I was. I cannot believe the sheer audacity that you would have to compare a large and vocal part of the queer community to our oppressors. And I hate to break it to you, but most queer people are minors, or at least in the younger generations. I promise you that I am very comfortable in my identity and it’s insane that you imply otherwise when you know jackshit about me.

You can say that pride should be a riot all you want that does not change the fact pride is not a riot anymore. It’s a celebration of ALL of our identities. Which means queer families, and queer kids will be in attendance. By othering ourselves from general society, there is always going to be a sense of disconnect between queer people and non-queer people. When I’m going about my daily life, my identity is the last thing on my mind, I don’t want to be a scary other to the general population.

Pride is how we could show ourselves at our best, especially with everything happening in society right now. When we decide to turn large showings of who we are as a community into orgies, that is a very VERY bad look. You can’t preach inclusion while excluding the majority of the queer community.

Also the AUDACITY to let Qunari Rook just wander around Minrathos and not deal with any shit, is wild, and goes against everything else that has been established in the other games.

i still can't believe veilguard just completely ignored the vashoth. like no one says the word, i think i read it in one codex entry, but none of the like little tutorial information bits. the text when choosing a qunari rook says that some qunari live outside the qun and that culture - which makes them not qunari. we've spent two games talking about the vashoth a lot, it was a core pillar in the iron bull's storyline, and now it's like. no vashoth, no tal-vashoth.

(in inquisition we literally had the vocabulary lesson of kossith - qunari - vashoth - tal-vashoth lol)

there used to be the split of qunari and (tal-)vashoth, but now it's qunari and antaam. which a lot of other people have rightfully criticized as being comically evil to a racist degree and i completely agree with that, in addition to their treatment being really disappointing from a lore and worldbuilding standpoint because the antaam are so interesting to me.

because not only were the antaam the army of the qunari, antaam means body which is so fucking telling of their importance to qunari society. i don't remember if veilguard ever goes into the fact that the antaam aren't just randos who got Evil, but they are the army, they were the invading force, they were the body of the qunari to extend the qun's reach.

wouldn't it be interesting to learn what qunari society thinks about the antaam? like, do they count as tal-vashoth, as deserters to them? should they be cut off or re-educated and re-integrated? and what does the loss of a large part of the army do to the qunari, who are never not at war?

veilguard misses a lot of opportunities for multiple reasons, but the treatment of the qunari and vashoth really got to me.

Oh no!!! The mage racism game has! MAGE RACISM… it’s the same thing when people get mad about elf discrimination in the DA games, fantasy racism is completely inseparable from Dragon Age. I think that’s why so many fans have issues with DATV. The heavy topics are what draw people in and makes the games unique.

not to be a killjoy but it's still crazy to me that it's considered mean to be like "maybe you should read / play / watch the source material before creating fanworks and diving into the fandom" bc every time i see somebody going "i havent played disco elysium or know anything about it tbh but uwu here's harry and kim kissing" idk maybe you should engage with it. maybe you should play the anti-capitalist surrealist game where you investigate the murder of a mercenary who led the gang rape of a foreign girl and process that for a bit? and then you can do cutesy mlm or whatever idc. but like at the absolute bare minimum you should understand what the source material involves otherwise we get the phenomenon of people joining a dragon age server and wanting content warnings for like, mage racism. like it's fine to ship and transform the genre into whatever but if you arent comfortable with discussions of the actual source content itself then maybe the fandom isnt for you and a different one is. peace and love.
