pancakes the size of dinner plates can motivate running up the steepest of hills

i have decided to make it my new thing to run to brunch places on the weekends because then i get the satisfaction of accomplishing a long run, seeing new parts of the city, bypassing the terrible traffic (and no uber/lyft fees or terribly long bus rides!!) ... all before my meal is ordered! 

i ran to two other brunch spots with my friend yugo earlier in december, but writing about the place we tried out today since it’s freshest in my mind. 

Name: The Griddle Cafe

Location: 7916 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046

Distance run: 7.5 miles

the Griddle Cafe is famous for serving a wide variety of giant pancakes, which typically come in stacks of 3, but that’s a slightly monstrous amount especially if you want to sample more than one flavor. you can order just a single pancake though (the price is $3 less than the listed menu price). i thought we would have to wait a long time because of what all the previous Yelp reviews told me + there were a lot of people lined up outside when we got there, but we were seated at a table outside in ~5 minutes. 

we ordered one “black magic” (lots of oreos and whipped cream) and “bananana” pancake, as well as the two eggs dish (which only came with potatoes, even though the menu says it should also come with fruit and toast...but we already had so much food on our table that i didn’t see much of a point in making a big deal out of it). we each ended up taking half of each pancake home.

the run was relatively straightforward -- a lot of it involved running down Santa Monica Blvd and for awhile we got to run thru Beverly Gardens Park and witness a lot of tourists taking pictures of sculptures and the Beverly Hills sign. the street we had to ascend before turning onto Sunset was treacherously steep and i thought i was going to die, but thankfully it was close enough to our destination that i had the dream of eating pancakes to keep me going. 

misc. observations: lots of girls having their pictures taken by their instagram boyfriends (i assume), a strip club on Sunset with a few hookers getting out of work, in west hollywood a car had driven straight into a cocktail bar.
