the whole point of a zine is that it's cheap to produce, amateur and homemade. if you're being asked to apply to participate in a print project, it is not a zine. if the final product is being printed and bound professionally, it is not a zine. if you are being asked to enter into any kind of licensing agreement more complex than "my work can be reproduced as part of this publication" it is not a zine. nine times put of ten if the final product costs more than $5 you have left zine country. im so serious about this.

Being the only bi cis guy amongst almost exclusively trans friends and peers is wild because in theory its like im living in a horny manga where all of a dudes friends turn into hot babes, but in reality they are hunting me like the last bison on the prairie. 5 years ago I mentioned bionicle and one of them asked when I was starting estrogen.

AND ANOTHER THING dick grayson being an earnest character but performance oriented, fascade oriented makes him and duke so fun to analyze next to one another. dick being raised by Mr. conceal and repress himself as well as the performance motif is immediately very opposite to duke as a character.
this single interaction where dick attempts to deflect and duke immediately stops him before revealing his identity is a perfect example

in dukes introduction he's established as someone who doesn't hold his tongue. he is unabashedly rude but cares deeply and is most crucially an honest character. his inner monolog in We are Robin is a perfect display of this. Duke being forced to prioritize survival and his singular goal of finding his parents responds to things he would usually care about (wants to care about) with opposition. he's tunnel visioned himself into a fascade of selfishness (which he critiques damian and bruce for) that immediately falls away when comparing his words vs. his actions [BIGGEST LOSER of the idgaf war]

dukes WHOLLLEEE THING is solving puzzles = finding truth = light = honesty. he will dig for the truth until it presents itself, he illuminates. "selfishness" isn't natural at all to him, neither is lying but trauma, tragedy, and enviornment change will do that. he's community oriented and honest even when it sucks, over the course of We are Robin he loses the act and his words out loud begin to match his inner monolog. both him and dick believe in protecting innocence and duke respects robin as a symbol but is more interested in what it represents and what it can inspire people to do than he is the man himself. how people will feel empowered to become their OWN heros.

it's a little toxic but duke believes vehemently in the responsibility symbols have and the needs of the masses over the individual. when you're a hero, you don't get to just be a person with problems who bleeds. you have to be more, and this is even reflected in the way he chooses to be a hero and operate as the signal, during the day. he needs to be larger than life, beyond needing sleep or breaks (common super hero belief) < and actually this is the standard ALL of gothams vigilantes should abide by and don't complain about it because the people need something to inspire them, gotham NEEDS YOU SPECIFICALLY(unhealthy, frankly insane belief 😭)

Rewatched FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood recently with @mouiface
This show/manga is stunning in its storytelling. From the over plot, to the world building and especially the characters. The characters and the arcs they go through makes FM:B one of the shinning masterpieces in Anime. The fact it has a functional ending already sets it heads and shoulders above other anime, but the amount of emotional impact orchestrated in this shows makes for one of the best series for genuine catharsis.
