it's crazy how much respect and reverence the narrative and bruce as a character (rightfully) gives to mary and john grayson for being dick grayson's parents (he doesn't adopt dick because dick already has parents and he doesn't want to take their place. he goes to their graves and tells them about dick and how he's doing. he's grateful to them for creating dick and appreciates their role in making him who he is) but when willis and catherine todd die all anybody fucking does is put lies and disrespect on their name. bruce doesn't even tell jason that his father is dead until months after adopting him. it's hardly ever acknowledged by characters in-story that jason had a loving father who did everything in his power to take care of him and failed due to reasons beyond his control--and it wasn't bruce wayne. and i just know bruce does not respect that man, does not see or understand the sacrifices he had to make due to poverty, because he was of "the criminal class" and so his influence needed to be weeded out of jason rather than seen and loved for what it was. the story acknowledges catherine as a loving mother and tragic loss, but given the givens, i doubt if bruce has genuine respect for her as anything more than an addict who deserves his pity.
