This is so entertaining that I assume most people must have already known about it, but I came across this Flight of the Conchords Edinburgh mockumentary for the first time today, and this is hilarious. It is also, technically, Chocolate Milk Gang content. It has been well documented, mostly by David O'Doherty, that the Flight of the Conchords' Edinburgh run from 2002 was a significant part of the formation of the Chocolate Milk Gang:
And here we have a documentary about FOTC's journey to/experience in Edinburgh, in 2002. I got excited when I first saw that, because I thought it was an actual documentary, which would be very historically interesting. Instead we got something even better: a parody of a documentary, which is still historically interesting (because it's still footage of FOTC in Edinburgh 2002), but is also quite funny. Also, Taika Waititi (he's now Taika Waititi - I'm not sure if he was going by that name at the time, or Taika Cohen) plays their manager, while looking like a tiny baby.

And the little bit of footage of their actual show in that video is, I think, the only recording I've found of that CMG-defining show that FOTC did in Edinburgh 2002 (I mean, you could argue that this show should be better known as one that launched the career of Flight of the Conchords that ended up in a very successful HBO show and arena tours in the States, but it can be about both):

I checked the 2002 Edinburgh programme to see if they tell me what name Taika was using at the time, but he's not mentioned by name. He is in it, though. Since that year, he was doing a double act with Jermaine Clement called Humour Beasts, in addition to Jermaine's FOTC double act with Bret McKenzie.

Anyway, all that other stuff is not the point, the point is the the video's funny. And interesting look at their developing comedic style, which would get so much bigger and better defined in later years. That is the point.

“Not that Carl’s my lover…” - Peter Doherty
I know you lie, I’m still in love with you…
I know where to find you, my love, at the same old flat by the river….
And you’re the only lover I had, who ever slept with a knife…
You’re gonna be in the dark once again, my love, my love…
And I love every inch of you, yes I do love every single inch of you…
He was my hero, oh yes he was, my hero every inch…
Just say you love me, for three good reasons…
You said that you love me, why don’t you fuck off…
If I have to go, I will be thinking of your love…
If call I must do, to take my love my love to you…
Are you still shaking out all the deadwood from your bed love, like you used to…
On the off chance that you’re listening to the radio, I thought you might like to know you broke my heart…
“I listened to everything. He hid love messages for me in them. We both did that.” - Carl Barât.
