tobiizu au in which during the war, the uchiha manage to capture tobirama.

they hold him hostage as a negotiation tool, but hte negotiations are very drawn out and it puts them in a tricky position. obviously they can't simply trust that he won't manage to escape his cell and cause problems- but they can't torture him or go to any extreme measures for keeping him trapped. not without undoing the goodwill of returning him by the end of all this.

the solution, then, is while he's trapped in his cell he should also be trapped within a genjutsu to keep his mind occupied. Not torture-based. Nothing that Hashirama could be offended to discover his brother spents months of his life experiencing instead of the dungeon he was actually in.

izuna, as the best genjutsu-crafter of the clan, and the uchiha who knows tobirama best, is given the task of creating it. he starts small, and simple. A nice sunny day in the forest. A trip to the ocean.

He gets more elaborate as time goes on- partially to keep his own interest (His skills seem wasted, otherwise) and partially because he finds Tobirama's response interesting. He puts him in new situations, more complicated scenarios. A small cafe in a distant village in iron; a visit to the capitol and a stop by the theater there.

He starts to weave himself into the fantasies. At first a background character, then with more important roles. He's another customer at the cafe, then a performer at the theater, then a noble at court who Tobirama's seated next to.

Then he's Izuna. In Konoha of all places to invent, his brother's fanciful musings, and perhaps Izuna's greatest challenge yet to craft as a genjutsu. The topic keeps coming up in the negotiations and it's starting to get Izuna's interest. Peace between their families, between themselves.

Perhaps he goes too far when he slides Tobirama's long-dead brothers and mother into it. (His father he leaves in his grave). He doesn't know enough about them to give them a major role in it all, but he whispers and nudges the reality until they're all off living with his mother's clan in good health. Distant, but not gone. writing letters with good news for tobirama to read about their lives.

Objectionable of him, but not in a way easy to pinpoint. Defendable from certain moralistic views.

Izuna's decision to have them married, however- can't argue around that. But if he has to spend so much of his time and chakra on these illusions, he should get something out of it right? and tobirama makes such a lovely spouse.

and then the negotiations finally come to an end, a peace is made, and izuna's supposed to let Tobirama go.

okay but why was SQQ so fucking confident he was that dude and just tricking every person possible when I know for a fact he probably left the cabin with just his underrobes one day like a FREAK.

i’m aware this is probably a joke, but like. i’ve got a gripe and i’m using your ask to vent it.

off the top of my head:

shen yuan, however comical his narration may be, is not an idiot bumbling around unaware of what’s going on around him and how he’s seen. the people in his life are not humouring his little act, and his disciples’ respect and deference to his decisions is not a capitulation or a “whatever you say shizun” type reaction. the people of cang qiong mountain sect (as well as other characters: zhuzhi lang and gongyi-xiao, tianlang-jun and even meng mo) are honestly appreciative and respectful of him and what he’s done for his sect.

he is always thinking of how he presents himself to the world, always aware of his reactions and how they might be perceived. he’s aware to the point that it comes between him and binghe on multiple occasions.

he is intelligent and self-aware. equating his confusion and fear of his own sexuality and self-expression with his personality is rather annoying and a thing i see a bit too much of.

i don’t mean to be a spoilsport but it is getting rather exhausting to see the same joke packaged differently and sourced from the same misconception/misunderstanding of shen qingqiu’s fundamental characterisation.

and. also, something i think some people forget rather easily: shen yuan knows the customs and standards of ancient china, as well as those in pidw and other xianxia / wuxia / fantasy novels. you may even say he lived somewhere where he learned these things his whole life prior to transmigrating. crazy right?

working on a new comic with @doveywovy and this is an extremely important edit to understand the plot. analyze closely

au in which izuna is a pixie and tobirama manages to catch him in a glass jar and take him home. he spends a few days observing him and taking notes and then releases him back into the wild.

unfortunately tobirama is unaware that his handle of izuna crossed a few lines. pixie wings are erogenous zones so spending over an hour gently moving them around to observe them in full detail (And sketch them as he goes) is akin to jackin' izuna off with a side of edging. not to mention sometimes his attempts to hold or move izuna involved his fingers applying pressure to genitals, so- yeah. izuna developed a fixation. (especially with tobirama's hands/fingers.)

it takes izuna a few months but eventually he's able to trick tobirama into stepping through a mushroom ring, and then refuses to let him leave the fairy realm until he's starving and forced to eat some of their food, thus trapping him in izuna's domain (and control) forever.

it's honestly not that bad. he gets to spend his time studying pixies and unusual creatures that live in the realm. unfortunately he's not allowed to be very hands-on with stuff because, uh, his hands are now a precious and guarded treasure according to izuna.

tobirama has poor blood circulation, and sometimes his feet get cold in the night; so he starts to wear thick warm socks to bed. simple solution, easy solution, he thinks nothing of it.

izuna is introduced to the sight of tobirama in 'socks' soon after they're married and gets fixated. there's something he finds deeply compelling about the idea of it- tobirama's feet hidden away like something private, as covered up as genitalia outside the bath. it turns them into something alluring where they weren't before.

he starts to consider tobirama's feet- his toes, at the least- as highly sexual, and thus something only a husband should see. he can't get tobirama to wear socks all the time, but he's able to convince him to start wearing closed toed shoes and slippers out in public.

the real problem is the socks- izuna views them as sexual objects, and treats them as such. tobirama cannot use cumsocks to keep his feet warm and thus finds this extremely annoying. he gets izuna to agree to stop using them, but sometimes izuna breaks their agreement- usually in the middle of the night, after tobirama's kicked his socks off in his sleep. he's not using them anymore. izuna might as well, right?

at some point there's a konoha emergency in the early morning, and hikaku has to get tobirama and izuna's help with it. he can't get past the wards on their bedroom, but he makes enough noise for the pair to know they're needed. the wards, unfortunately for hikaku, can keep him out, but they don't keep sound in.

he hears a scuffle as they both rush to undo the wards. he hears izuna demand tobirama cover up, and tobirama's grumbling. he hears a weird squelching noise, tobirama's loud sharp curse, and then-

the door opens. tobirama's expression is locked into one of absolute disgust. Izuna looks feverishly red.

"stop looking at them." izuna says, extremely intensely, and hikaku is forced to drag his eyes up from tobirama's weird pigeon-toed foot position and the odd coloration of his socks.

'you know what, i think we can actually handle this without you." hikaku says, lying through his teeth. he would rather they deal with an attacking bijuu alone then deal with whatever this is.
