the reason why i despise altean lance so much is because is that really what defines him? is that seriously how the show defines his character? he falls in love with an altean, turns altean, and farms altean flowers for his fallen altean lover. gone are his dreams to be a pilot. gone is the boy who wanted to explore space so badly that he went to school for it.

also, where did his insecurities go? were they solved just because he turned altean which made him feel special? is that really the message voltron is trying to send out. lance was never a special character, his romance sub-plot defined him and now he’s content with being altean, because that’s all that’s special about him! his new altean genes!

there is just. so much wrong with this.

sometimes i think about how keith and lance are always on equal footing with each other. the closest example of one being placed on a pedestal is when keith is accepted as black’s paladin, but they quickly move to being equal to each other when keith tries to reject the position and lance comforts him. it’s just…really beautiful tbh :’)
