Hi folks, I have some very exciting news to share with all of you! For once, Merlin doesn’t bring you a vision of doom.

Misplaced is a fantasy romance interactive fiction WIP, wherein your choices not only determine your own fate, but that of an entire kingdom. Let me take you an adventure filled with both whimsy and tragedy alike.

The Story:

For decades, the human kingdom of Gaiapeia has been fighting against the fae living in the surrounding lands. How this conflict started depends entirely on who you ask.

You are the child of Lady and Sir Grahm, a noble familiy who has been serving the crown for generations. Eager to follow in your father's footsteps, you have been training for years to become a knight worthy of being Prince Az'Lean's Champion - his right hand, his closest confidant, the one who protects his life from the growing danger of the fae.

When the time finally comes and you are chosen for the position, it's a dream come true. You couldn't be happier. But just one day later, on your 21st birthday, a terrible truth is revealed to you.

You are a changeling - a fae child that was smuggled into a human family with only one purpose: to gain the prince's trust and use it against him.

A war between humans and fae is surely brewing and the outcome depends entirely on you.

Features:

Customize the appearance of your MC, play as non-binary, female, or male and romance whoever you like however you like, including the choice for asexual or queer-platonic relationships.

Enjoy the story without having to worry about stats - you will be a competent knight no matter what. There is no failure or success, only different choices and their outcomes.

Shape your personality, and your trustworthiness, with your actions. Other characters' disposition to you will change depending on how they perceive you.

Pick a side early on, play the long con, or refuse to make a choice at all. There are multiple split paths that will feature the same romancable characters - but their relationship to you might vary greatly (including villain romances).

Romance:

Vynn (nb):

Vynn is one of your fellow knights and a long-time friend. Unlike you they aren't a knight by choice and don't care much for fighting. You get the feeling they'd much rather be a bard if they could, seeing as they love playing the lute, spinning epic tales and generally being a source of levity. They are fiercely loyal and good-natured, though there is that bit of resentment that will never quite leave their heart.

Prince Az'Lean (m):

Az'Lean is your prince, the one you are sworn to protect. On first glance, he is the very picture of a fairytale prince: charming, chivalrous, and powerful. He is an excellent fighter, loves animals, and prefers to be treated like an equal. Anyone who cares to look will soon notice the darkness lurking beneath that shining exterior, festering ever since the death of his mother.

Lady Meave (f):

Maeve is a powerful dryad who was sent to educate you on the ways of the fae. She is usually playful and soft, though her patience tends to run short. As much as she cares about decorum and courtly things, she finds joy in the simplest things and easily turns into a giggly mess. For all her humour, you can never quite tell if she is being serious. Sometimes it feels like she's just playing with you.

Thianne (f):

Thianne is a sorceress and one of Az'Lean's most trusted advisors. She is intelligent and hard-working, though sometimes at the expense of her own well-being. Although she comes across as abrasive and rude, she is always willing to help those who need it. Her dry sense of humour and brutal honesty have endeared her to just as many people as they have made her enemies.

Lester (m):

Lester is a half-fae servant, working in the castle. As with most half-fae, his presence isn't entirely welcome and his reasons for being here seem complexer than he lets on. Lester is known for his mischief and his crude humour, often pulling pranks that border on malicious. Despite the way he presents himself as laid-back and uncaring, it's clear that there's a lot he isn't opeing up about.

This story contains potentially triggering content. There will be graphic depictions of violence, death, discrimination, body-image issues and mental illness (including panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and paranoia). Discretion is advised.

i love when a character has something terrible happen to them and as a result they see themself as, essentially if not literally, a ghost. and so that means they only can (and have to) do what ghosts do, ie get revenge and then cease to exist. easy as that. but then halfway through this ghost vengeance they realize hey actually i might still be a human person. with human needs. that’s incredibly inconvenient, considering how much i’ve invested in this whole ghost thing

Kieran is a shifter who takes on the form of a wolf. They have full control of when they shift, although it can be painful if they shift too often between resting. In his human form, he relies on knives and has spent his life studying supernatural rituals and artifacts. 

Charlotte St. Claire - The Deadly English Rose

28 years old | English | female | she/her

Charlotte is a Londoner with a dark past, having spent a large portion of her life entangled with the dangerous underworld of London. This path led to her imprisonment by a group of vampires who treated her as their personal blood bag. After escaping on the precipice of her death, she was found by Kieran who took her under his wing. 

River Silvius - The Witch

32 years old | American | non-binary | they/them

River is the youngest witch in their family and was raised in the state of Washington. They are currently a professor at the New York Institute of Witchcraft, the premier witchcraft college in North America. They sometimes work on cases with Bennett. 

Katerina Kallergis - The (Other) Vampire

282 years old (looks late 20s to early 30s) | Greek | female | she/her

Katerina is a vampire who was born in Greece almost three-hundred years ago. She despises vampirism - including herself and other vampires. Not much is known about members of her clan, the Infinitum, as they are a tight-knit group of vampires who value privacy and usually avoid other supernaturals as much as possible. 

Bennett Williams - The Cowboy

31 years old | American | male | he/him

Bennett grew up on a ranch in Texas, where he was the only survivor of a Heaven’s Hunters (HH) attack that wiped out his family, including his sister who was a Witch and the intended target. He is currently a private investigator for supernaturals and their families. He is fond of his cowboy hat and shotgun and wears an eyepatch on his left eye. 

There will be additional characters who play their own role in the story, including members of the Vampiric Round Table, clan leaders, Heaven’s Hunters, and more. However, this post would be too long to list all of those people.

Here’s a brief look at the six possible backstories for MC. Subject to change if needed by the author.

When I was a kid, whenever I'd feel small or lonely...I'd look up at the stars and wonder if there was life up there. Turns out I was looking in the wrong direction.

When alien life entered our world it was from deep beneath the Pacific Ocean. A fissure between two tectonic plates. A portal between dimensions.

They called it the Breach.

It’s funny how quickly things can change.

One minute you’re on top of the world, then the next, your world is crumbling down around you…

Five years ago, you and your drift partner had the highest success rates of any Jaeger pilots. Now, one horrific tragedy and a hasty promotion later, you’re pushing pencils thousands of miles away from the place you called home.

That is, until a Kaiju with stealth abilities like nothing that’s ever been seen before crawls out of the Breach.

Recalled back into service, you’re forced to team up with your once rival under the command of your former drift partner, and the advice of two scientists who seem more interested in the Kaiju’s than your safety. All while someone with more money than sense attempts to undermine you at every turn.

With everything seemingly against you, will you take up the mantle of hero once more or will you let the darkness plaguing your mind consume you?

Customisable MC (including name, pronouns, appearance, and identity). Personality is semi-set (MC uses humour and sarcasm as a coping method for their trauma) for a majority of the time, however there will be chances for character development and therefore more personality choices.

Pilot a Jaeger, fight Kaiju’s, and keep the world safe all while battling your own demons.

Five characters are available to romance. Two are only romanceable in a (triad) poly.

Ciaran O’Doherty [M/F] - Hot-tempered and viciously in denial of the love they have for you that has only seemed to grow in your absence, Ciaran is your newly assigned drift partner and self-proclaimed rival. [PROFILE].

Killian Zhao [M/F] - Once a talented pilot and your former drift partner, Killian is now your formidable and highly respected commanding officer with a soft spot reserved just for you. [PROFILE].

Brin Kazlauskas [M/F/NB] - Waspish, fastidious, and someone that no one wants to be on the wrong side of, Brin is a K-Science officer with a wicked protective streak towards Zai and you . Only romanceable in a poly with Zai. [PROFILE].

Zai Oumarou [M/F/NB] - Despite a somewhat anxious disposition around those they don’t know, Zai is a K-Science officer with a lot of enthusiasm and a deep curiosity towards Kaiju. Only romanceable in a poly with Brin. [PROFILE].

Ajax Nikolaou [M!NB/F!NB] - With a twisted determination to be a giant pain in your ass, Ajax is the ruthless CEO of Nikolaou Industries, a company that seeks to make the Pan Pacific Defense Corps completely redundant. [PROFILE].

Ferelith [F] - The baby Kaiju with a sweet character that was rescued by Zai, Ferelith loves cuddles, Lord of the Rings (according to Zai), and munching on Brin’s lab coat.

About to celebrate your fourth year as an assassin, karma is closing in on you with gnashing teeth and an undying thirst for blood. One more job, you keep telling yourself, but killing may just be more addictive than its advertised to be. After all, you do have a younger sister to provide for. You belong to a small-scale syndicate that works to… cleanse the world of the harsh and irritating, and though you typically work alone, you’ve formed somewhat of a deranged family. However, when your boss assigns you to a team of the best and gives you a target branded as the ‘Sterling Doll’, your wits, skills and sanity is trialled. Travelling the globe just to hunt one heavy-pocketed figure, your payout is expected to be well-worth it. Though, it doesn’t help that the Sterling Doll knows you’re coming for them, and likes the chase.

- Customise yourself to your own liking. Design your looks, gender and personality type to your cold dead hearts content. 

- Kill people, like a badass. Choose your preferred methods, spare those that convince you to and hide the bodies of those that can’t. Or, just leave them to be found… you get paid either way. 

- Have an existential crisis about your chosen career path. 

- Fall in love with a cold-blooded killer, a hired genius, a hired dumbass, your actual boss or even the person you’re supposed to kill. If the romantic mess isn’t your thing, perhaps a Friends with Benefits scenario takes your fancy. 

- Raise your little sister. Hopefully to be a better person than you are.

Madeleine Orozco. F

Miss Orozco, 23, is one of the most apathetic and ruthless killers the syndicate has seen in recent years. Despite her small size and unassuming appearance, Madeleine has proven herself capable on multiple occasions, and isn’t one to underestimate. Her temper can be misplaced, however, and has lead to some tricky situations over her career. Best to keep an eye on her anger. She will be joining your team on your hunt for the Sterling Doll.

Madeleine is 5′4, with jet-black hair and eyes to match. Her skin is tanned, her smile sadistic enough to scare, and her collection of murder stories a great time-killer. Pun intended. She’s spanish, too.

Cody Markus. M

Cody is many things, a jesting dumbass definitely one of them. It surprises you on the daily that he hasn’t gotten himself killed or tortured for a mistake he’s made so far: its a mystery how he’s landed himself in a team as skilled as yours. At only 20 years old, he has a lot to learn, and even more to unlearn: like speaking too much or eating on the job. Cody is a single father to a two-year-old girl at home, Sara.

Cody is 5′11, lean and unruly in every aspect of the word. His tawny brown hair is always a mess, and his pale green eyes are always looking for mischief. He’s fairly pale, and his nails are always painted an off-putting hot pink. He also has a tattoo sleeve.

Alaska. NB

Known only by ‘Alaska,’ one of the syndicates brightest members will be joining you, and aid mainly by locating the Sterling Doll and providing your team with inside information they can garner. Alaska doesn’t kill, and doesn’t intend to, but they sure know how to ruin a life or two: so make sure you aren’t a dick to them. They have their fair share of experience in the industry, and at 27, are looking to make this their last job. 

Alaska is 5′9, and aims to be as indistinct looking as possible. They are black, and wear their hair in braids that end just past their shoulders. They have a few tattoos scattered over their muscular body, but nothing that stains itself into your mind. You actually think if you spent long enough apart, you’d forget Alaska’s face entirely: maybe that’s the point.

Reilly Avalon. M

Your boss, the grump of this mission. Reilly put your team together, and no, he won’t be taking any questions on his methods or decisions. What Reilly says goes, and if you don’t like it, you can bet he will replace you without a second thought. At 30, he’s officially given himself the title of ‘knowledgeable’, and will finish whatever task is at hand, regardless of if it’s the last thing he does. Even if you do somehow manage to catch his attention, he won’t go easy on you just because he likes your face. So… don’t fuck up.

Avalon is 6′1, always sporting a frown and he’s a dirty blonde! But not that kind of dirty blonde, clean your damned mind, good lord (yes he is). Reilly has blue eyes, and is quite muscular under his typical suit and tie look.

Silver, Sterling Doll. M/F

You don’t know much about Silver, beside their alias and a short description of their looks. You’ve been told that they’re loaded beyond belief and also expectedly arrogant, surprise surprise. As eager as you may be to drive a knife into their spine, just be weary of their knack for playing games. Some say they get off on looking death in the eye.

Silver is 6′0, japanese and french, and has silky back hair, though the front pieces are dyed a silver-toned white. Their eyes are pools of black, and they’re attractive enough to warrant a warning from your boss: don’t let them seduce you, lord.

fantasy map creator - I really like this map creator because it is VERY in depth, gives you pretty much any bit of information you would need for your story!

fantasy map creator no. 2 - this generator creates a slightly smaller map and gives you information, but not in as much detail as the previous.

medieval demographics creator - again, this gives you information for the wolrd you want to create, with no map, and just info on population and different settlements

star system generator - more for science fiction novels, this tool creates a star system consisting of different stars and optional terrestrial worlds.

science fiction world generator - this toll is similar to the fantasy world generator, and gives you interesting details on the physics of your planet, population etc.

traveler system generator - I’m not sure what the title of this means, but it creates a star system for you with an earth like planet and demographics for that planet

ultimate star system and world creator - this toll is my favorite. it gives you so much information and creates a whole star system for you with lots of interesting demographics

fantasy name generator - this simply gives you a list of names for fantasy novels. personally, i prefer to research the meanings behind names but this can give you some inspiration.

ultimate fantasy generator - now this generator creates pretty much all you need to get ideas for your story!

fantasy calendar generator - this is super interesting tool that creates calendars for your novels that do not use earth time!

great name generator - i love this generator, it gives you names for japanese, chinese and russian characters, locations and corporations! i use it for a lot of my novels.

ultimate sci-fi generator - this is absolutely fantastic, it gives you characters, locations, plots etc. i love it!

more generators - this blog has some good tools for plot and character creations!
