I would've loved to hear AJ's perspective in the Q&A because I genuinely can't tell at what point he decided to become the villain. It seems like he was initially setting himself up to be Annabelle's love interest, but I got creeped out by him immediately. So now I'm wondering if that was because I went into the play expecting happy sapphics and a Tom/Luke couple or if AJ actually did have the intention to be a creep/obstacle to Annabutch from the very beginning. We already had a character named Butch and Sam was insinuating that there was something more going on between her and Annabelle before AJ's character was introduced, so it's possible. I don't know if that was enough for AJ to pick up on (no offense to AJ, it's just way more likely to go over a straight guy's head), but if he did pick up on it, I'm very impressed by the subtle foreshadowing and creepy vibes he gave off way before he revealed his villainous nature.

Since it's pride month, I needed to get off my chest how much I love the queer representation by SFTH. When I first started watching them, I honestly expected a lot of reluctance regarding queer characters and possibly even outright queerphobia because they were four men and I obviously couldn't know whether they had progressive views or were queer themselves at the time. I never realised how healing it would be to watch improvised queerness in comedy without any deeper thought or message behind it that doesn't even come from within the community!

There's something so reassuring that a character is queer because it felt right for some improvisers in the moment. It makes me so happy that when they play two characters of the same gender and a genre or change or something else leads to romance or sexual tension between them, there's never a "but we're both men/I'm not gay/we shouldn't be doing this"-reaction. Instead they always treat it the same way they would an m/f pairing. I love knowing that there's always a potential for their characters to turn out to be queer. The fact that they don't mind kissing or being affectionate with each other as men is also so nice! And queerness won't be played as a joke, being queer won't be the punchline, the queer character won't just be a stereotype - even though it so easily could be.

Their casual acceptance (and sometimes visible enthusiasm) when one of them decides to make something queer or when they're given a feminine name even though they clearly believed their character to be male up until then is so nice to see. And even in the rare cases that they portray queerphobia, it's always portrayed as a wrong and bad thing. I do think this should be the norm, but it sadly isn't. I hope one day it will be.
