I wonder if Diane taught Rick to shoot (and possibly to fight in other ways).

I think that’s Jerry’s cabinet. It has a Titanic from where he and Beth went on the Titanic themed cruise. When he was in the simulation with Rick, early in the series, he worked/came up with the ‘idea’ for a fake ad campaign that was called, “Hungry For Apples,” in the simulation.
not sure if anyone had ever pointed this out but rick keeps a pic of doofus Rick (s3 ep1) 😭

Try to not talk about this much from now on but I kinda miss how they did the implications Diane back then. 😭 I feel like Beth being scared of acting like her mom because she believes it is what made Rick abandon really speak what kind of dynamic they had.
Maybe I just wished to hear more about Diane from Beth. (Like from the perspective of the daughter who is low-key has as much conflict feeling towards her mom as with her dad.)

I enjoy that the finale made the point that Rick forgetting about Diane wasn't going to solve the problem because the solution was never "remove Diane from your memory so you can be more emotionally open" and instead was "Trying to forget is not synonymous with moving on"
And we see that with uncle slow's wife who almost went down the same path as Rick in an earlier season but she moved on and remarried and continued to remember uncle slow even in her new marriage. Rick still hasn't made peace with the person he made his entire life revolve around but the episode goes to show he's finally starting to, especially since he could have been jealous of memory Rick and gotten petty but instead he quite literally let go of memory Diane to be happy with memory Rick instead. Right now he's definitely in the desperate rebound phase so I'm not surprised we are going to see a lot of Rick's poor dating life next season, the guy can fuck but sucks at first date impressions.

I would have loved a different episode where Memory Rick tries to get back into Jerry's mind after giving Beth a happy childhood.
Memory Rick made great strides in gears and springs.
#the difference in animation this season is great#the first one is still good#but the bounciness between the first to and the last is really nice

Also, it’s a yearbook photo so he had to go out of his way to get it 😭
like yes rick putting morty’s picture on the bulletin board was cute but can we talk about the fact that he HAD the picture in his wallet in the first place?
hes a sentimental lil fuck and he knows it </3

after realising the overlapping themes of Summer of All Fears, The CuRicksous Case of Bethjamin Button, Morty Daddy and Hot Rick (god this show names its episodes in such a silly way) i’ve been looking through the other episodes in season 8 for obvious thematic overlap and parallels. i’m hardly expecting like the James Gunn’s DC Advert Extravaganza to be the linchpin that pulls it all together but idk who knows. i didn’t expect Morty Daddy’s “collecting a memory of your mom buried under layers of Rick’s mistakes” plot to tie so much into the finale either 🤷♀️
#ricker than fiction did show that rick's getting attached more easily#< prev tags#Rick getting attached more easily then deleting Diane so now he has more room to get attached even more easily#this doesn’t sound like it’s going to go well

Whenever I'm done watching Rick and Morty I need to do a re-watch and collect all the moments Rick grabs Morty like he's a soggy wet kitten and just carries him out of danger or just for the hell of it. I'm literally obsessed with this little detail he does because that's such a grandpa move.

The way I saw it was that it took time for the memories to fade. That’s why Slo-Möbius’s kids remember less than his wife. They had less memories of him. Whereas Rick remembers Diane more, because he was actively trying to keep his memories of her. He knew about the Omega Device. He knew what was happening to his mind. Beth had no idea. It creeped in slowly. Taking her image away. Then her voice. Until all that was left was an impression of what her mom once was
Rick S8: "Beth only thinks she remembers her mom"
Beth, S3: “and, I know I sound like mom, but I can't keep putting this family in danger just because I'm afraid you'll leave again”
That's a HELLA specific not-memory to have

I
Wait, was the "greatest fear" that Rick kinda had to face according to the creators in season 8 letting go of the memory of Diane...
...or was it THIS??
Seeing the damage he has done to Morty, the kid whose safety, despite Rick's constant abuse, has been Rick's priority this whole time?
Realizing he has failed Morty
#im still pissed that every time Rick tried to be better to people#Morty got hurt more#even though it wasn’t on purpose#Rick didn’t want to take accountability#maybe he started to see it towards the end of Ricker Than Fiction
