Champion 4000 Watt Inverter Generator Review
Intro:
The Champion 4000 Watt  Generator has an open frame design that can accommodate a much larger motor. The problem with the open frame design makes the drive a bit louder than a fully closed drive.
Like many other inverter generators, the Champion 400 watt generator is easy to start. This is due to the recoil starter cable being pulled quickly.
Tumblr media
Review Champion 4000 Watt  Generator :
As with all my purchases, I do my research well before what I consider a significant investment. My main goals were to find a generator for our travel trailer, which has 30 amps.
Some of the must-haves were that it should be able to power our 13.5 kW air conditioner WHILE still have a fair number of other items running at the same time, such as the charging converter, refrigerator, and small electronics.
It must also be an inverter-type generator with an economy mode. Some additional perks I wanted to consider included wireless remote start, dual fuel, electric start, and a dedicated 30-amp RV style receiver.
I probably spent a few weeks in my spare time reading reviews, watching videos, and comparing prices, then comparing them to the options each device had to offer. To get everything I wanted above I wanted to spend about $1200. A month ago I bought a Champion log splitter and was happy with that brand.
Champion also has generators and their model 100573 reappeared in my top 3 generator picks. I ended up on this model for the remote start, the inverter design, the dedicated 30 amp output, and it had the power I needed to run everything in my caravan at 4000 starting peak/watt.
Inverter generators convert alternating current to direct current and by processing purify the sine waveform of the current. It is then converted back to AC with less than 3% total harmonic distortion * AC > DC > AC video correction. This is clean energy that is safe for any electronic item. Most generators in buildings have a total harmonic distortion of about 20% and I wouldn't connect a computer or phone to that power source as it isn't that clean.
I got the generator and installed the wheelset and handle in about 10 minutes. I added conventional 10W30 engine oil, non-oxygenated gasoline, turned the fuel on, and used the push button (not yet remote) to start. It turned a few times as the carb bowl filled with gasoline, but then it started.
I used a Kill-a-Watt meter and my multimeter to confirm that the frequency was 60 Hz, the voltage was 120, and all the outputs were working. I then confirmed that the 12-volt barrel jack had power, which it did. Economy mode significantly mutes the generator and is extremely useful when the unit is in low demand. The generator will automatically go out of economy mode and increase the power demand.
Speaking of noise, although this is an inverter generator that is always quieter than a build generator, this is an open-frame model. By not fully packing the generator, it is about 4-5 dB louder than a closed frame model. I think I saved hundreds of dollars with the open frame and almost the most important thing for me was 4000 watts of peak power.
Most inverter generators of this size are in the peak range of 3000 to 3500. 500 watts more is significant, especially when you have multiple items that consume high power at startups, such as a microwave oven or air conditioner. If you've ever had to go outside to reset your generator's circuit breakers when the air is on and another
turn it on and you'll know what I'm talking about. More on generator noise at the end.
Tumblr media
Almost all generators of this size use a floating neutral, including this model. This common design is ideal for portable power supply. The problem some people have is that if you use a GFCI protector between you and your RV or gear, it may not allow current to pass because you are looking for a bonded neutral (rather than a floating neutral).
In your home's power panel, your neutral is connected to the ground, which is why your bathroom GFCI outlets are protected. Don't worry, Champion (and everyone else) will tell you how to tie the neutral to the generator, or if you search online you can make a tied neutral "dummy" connector as I did.
If you do this, make sure your generator is grounded using the ground contact on the generator panel. If you're confused, that's fine. Ask a friend who works with generators and they can help you.
If your RV doesn't use a GFCI system and you don't get warning lights, this unit works great right out of the box. If you're using a surge protector, it probably still lets current flow and you don't need to do anything.
We took the generator and our caravan to a remote area for 3 days. I cannot emphasize enough how great the remote launch feature is. When used remotely, the choke is automatic, so it's basically an on/off button.
The way we used the generator was I would use the remote start to turn it on and then run it for about 45-60 minutes to cool the fridge down, it would charge the main battery that powers our 12-volt water pump along with flashlights or other items and to cook what we had to do.
Then I used the button on the remote to turn it off for a few hours (the fridge switches to propane). You can then repeat the process throughout the day and night as needed.
I bet we started and stopped it from morning to night about 8 times and I almost forgot how spoiled I was because I didn't have to go outside to start the generator with the starter and then back up to turn it off to put.
Note: In other reviews, I saw some people angry that the generator remote sensor turns off after 12 hours of non-use. I called Champion about this (yes, they answer the phone too) and they told me the reason for this is to save the generator battery so it won't run and drain constantly.
This made perfect sense to me and my usage; I would never go more than 12 hours without turning it on. As soon as you turn it on, the 12-hour clock will start again. The electric starting system battery is also charged while the generator is running.
After 5 hours of use, I fielded the oil change with full synthetic 10W30 which was easy and the drain plug is in a handy place. I think we used it for about 15 hours during our trip and I never had to add gas again!
The gas tank is 2.9 gallons and should run for 17 hours at a 25% load. We had cool weather so I only ran the air conditioner for about an hour and had it on the eco mode the rest of the time. I'm glad I chose the petrol model because after much though it is much more difficult for me and how to fill a propane tank than a gas tank.
I want to save my propane for the fridge, stove, grill, and oven (I live in MN :) Also, as a general rule of thumb, dual fuel models lose about 10-18% of their power when running on propane, so that was another consideration for me.
While it was fine with generator noise, there are always ways to make something quieter. I took 3 sheets of plywood and cut them to form a U around the generator. Then I cut the rock wool insulation to size, added an upper part/hood, and also insulated it.
Leave enough room for the device to breathe and check the temperature in the partial box with an external thermometer. The exhaust should be facing out and I bet this thing is now as quiet as a Honda 3000 but significantly cheaper and more power! I like Honda, but folks, it's not fair to compare a unit twice as expensive.
Some final thoughts: If Champion were to change anything, I'd like to see the two large rubber feet with a wider stance to stabilize the lateral movements when the generator is accelerated.
The choke is push-button and electronic which works well it just takes some getting used to compared to traditional manual or lever choke. The generator is easy to load into my truck and has enough gas to last the weekend in most conditions.
The remote start feature is something I can't live without at the moment, especially for use in the motorhome. Although the noise is slightly louder than a fully enclosed unit it has more power and the noise is easily muffled by moving the exhaust from the caravan and using the rock wool insulated wooden planks as I mentioned above although not necessary is.
The wheelset works really great and the handle makes it easy to place it where you want it. A dedicated 30 amp RV hookup was perfect for me and the included wheelset and 12-volt battery charging cables were a nice free addition.
Finally, you should always have your gear or caravan breaker turned off when you start the generator. Let the generator start and stabilize, then turn on the circuit breaker.
For RV camping, the remote start is just great and has enough power to run the air conditioner, microwave, and a few small items at once.
Tumblr media
Pros:
-Reasonably priced inverter generator that can run my whole house -Runs much quieter than construction generators of the same size -Plenty of outlets - can run 120 & 240 volts at the same time -Digital hour meter -Remote oil drain hose for easy oil changes
Cons:
-I wish it had a main breaker or power cutoff switch
After a wind storm took power out in my area for over a week, I learned quickly what it’s like to live in a house without power or running water as we have a well. I had used a construction generator which worked; but it was so loud I couldn’t stand it. After some significant research and my past experience with Champion products, I landed on this model 100520 inverter generator.
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
The Champion 4000 Watt review has included a lot of specific information that you may not have considered, but don't let that deter you. No matter which generator you choose, you're going to have some operational responsibilities and choices to make, but it really isn't that difficult.
The Champion 4000 Watt  Generator hybrid inverter generator is designed to offer a number of popular features at a great price.
If it meets your needs, Champion 4000 Watt  Generator should be among your top choices. I hope that this information helps you in your purchasing decision.

Champion 3400-Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator Review
Introduction:
Our Champion 3400-Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator electric starter converter is dual fuel, allowing the 192cc engine to run on either petrol or propane.
Enjoy 59 dBA of silence for up to 7.5 hours on gas or 14.5 hours on propane, and power it up with the optional parallel kit that includes a 50-amp RV Ready outlet.
Tumblr media
Description:
A dual fuel unit acts as an alternative to the conventional generator. The Champion 3400 Dual Fuel Inverter Generator presents itself as a reliable recreational vehicle. The inverter generator is very quiet and compact. Again, the ideal inverter generator has a dedicated RV output of 30 A and 120 V. We found more about this in our review.
Assessment round:
After looking at several generators, I chose this one. Runs as quietly as the half-priced Honda. It has enough power to run my 30ft travel trailer, including AC (13,500 BTU). With some instructions from Champion technicians, I was able to hook up the generator directly to the trailer's propane system.
I've added a short video clip and images. I put a 12-foot hose between the regulator and the flow valve. I put a quick coupler on the trailer and on the original regulator.
This allows me to run the generator on gasoline, propane bottle, and the propane system of the trailer. The generator is light enough that I can lift it onto the floor of my truck and it fits under the tarpaulin! These features make this generator the perfect camp generator.
I don't need to carry extra fuel! The trailer's propane system has two 20-pound propane bottles. That's enough propane to run a three-day weekend in economy mode, just during camp generator hours.
My wife was thrilled that we can now get the great no-power campgrounds that most state parks offer without losing the trailer features. This generator is also powerful enough to use as a backup generator for my home.
I have a 30 amp RV outlet installed next to my garage sub-panel. In the event of a prolonged power outage, I will turn on the main switch and then be able to safely plug it into the house to feed power back to the oven, some lights, and the refrigerator. This Champion 3400 Dual Fuel Inverter Generator  is a great addition to my home and camping gear.

Conclusion:
Champion 3400 Dual Fuel Inverter Generator works very well. It's definitely worth the price and it's much better than Honda. I saw several comparisons on YouTube of the Honda models versus the Champion and in all cases, the decibel difference is about 4 higher than the Champion. 4 decibels is not the same as Honda costing double so I made a change to this.

Champion 3100 Watt Inverter Generator Review

Our Champion 3100 Watt Inverter Generator Review and Price History electric starter converter is dual-fuel, allowing the 171cc engine to run on either gasoline or propane.
Enjoy up to 8 hours of quiet 58 dBA on gasoline or 19 hours on propane, and power it up with the optional parallel kit with a 50 amp RV Ready outlet

A great review:
After looking at all kinds of other generators by price and size, I came up with the champion. Not that I didn't have money for the Honda, but we could clear the camp once or twice a year. If I lived in my RV full time I would buy the Honda. I got the Champion 3100 Watt Generator on Amazon for $625. The Honda costs over $3000.
I didn't want to buy a used one from Craigslist because I was afraid people wouldn't break it properly or take care of it. After the PG&E public safety shutdowns we had in Northern California, there were all kinds of generators for sale that said new ones were only used for a few hours. You know they haven't broken it until you put it in your fridge and everything else in your house.
They probably won't even change the oil and that will cause long-term damage. People who say the Champion is as quiet as the Honda should have their hearing checked. I've heard both and it's impossible for the champion to be as quiet as the Honda. The Champion is as quiet as any other inverter generator.
I can stand next to the champion when he is running in eco mode and have a conversation. I wanted something like 3000 watts to be able to turn on the air conditioning in my RV and the refrigerator in my house if the power goes out.
I also wanted to be able to get on and off my truck myself, so I went with the champion without the automatic starter. Without the battery and electric starter, you will save 15-20 pounds. And let's face it, if you only use it a few times a year, the battery will probably drain if you try to turn it on anyway. It weighs about 80 pounds without gas.
The Honda 3000w weighs 130 pounds without gas. I have a Coleman Mach of 13500 BTU. I was concerned after reading other people's reviews of this generator who said it wouldn't work with your RV's air conditioner. I have a 2018 Rockwood so it's a newer air conditioner.
Let my air conditioner work properly. Once the air conditioner turns on and starts working, I put it in eco mode and there is no problem. Then I turned on the fridge, the television, and the lights in the RV.
Champion 3100 Watt Generator worked very well. You will hear the generator choke slightly as the compressor turns on and off. The only thing I can think of is that they have older RVs and the starting capacitors in the air conditioners are bad.
Be sure to perform the recommended 5-hour break-in procedure before connecting the air conditioner. I removed the spark plug and put a teaspoon of clean oil in the piston chamber. Give about 15 pulls without a spark plug and without gas to lubricate the piston rings. Ignite the spark, add gasoline and oil and it ignites.
The first five hours, every hour, alternate between a 25% charge and a 50% charge. I used a heater and switched between low and high mode. I change the oil after 1 hour and again after 3 hours. Use normal 10/30 motor oil as recommended by the champion.
At five o'clock we change the oil again and put it in synthetic. Champion 3100 Watt Generator looks well built and although it is plastic. The wheels make maneuvering easier. I've emailed Champion multiple times with questions and they've responded within 24 hours each time... Looking forward to camping this year!

Champion 100573 – Portable Inverter Generator Review
Analysis:
The Champion 100573 hybrid generator is fantastic
I have no complaints about this Champion 100573 .
These are some of the features that make this Champion 100573 great
Tumblr media
1. Fuel Shutoff Valve
2. Easy to empty and add oil.
3. The 292cc engine prevents the generator from being overloaded with higher starting power in eco mode.
4. 4000 watts of clean sine wave power (3% or less THD)
5. Long runtime with full tank (I exceeded 24 hours in my power outage exercise)
6. Lightweight about 91 pounds filled with gas and oil
Champion 100573 quiet enough for my needs (camping and power outages) That's how I broke it 1. It has been running for 5 hours with multiple loads of no more than 1500 watts and the oil has been changed (10W30)
2. It ran for 24 hours using the same method as the 5 hours for oil change (10W30)
3. Run under heavy load for 24 hours (green mode power outage) powering items until disconnected due to overload...here's a breakdown of what I plugged into the generator
A. Oreck air purifier, 57" LED TV, 27" CRT TV, 2 alarm clocks, a vented gas water heater, 4 LED lights, 7.0 cu in the refrigerator, 12 port USB charger, a box of TiVo, 1.5" Sump Pump (set manually turn on) (which is about 965 watts by my best guess) B. Then I added a 15 amp 1500 watt heater C. Added a 7 amp 1500 watt toaster so we are now at 3965 watts. This load ran for 1.5 hours with the refrigerator about every 30 minutes, causing the generator to jump and not start. D. A 1100 watt microwave was added as soon as the fridge was on, the generator was overloaded and all plugs were off (turn off the generator and restart)... Then I used it as I would expect it during a power outage, for example, you would never use the toaster oven and microwave at the same time. It never stopped and ran everything it needed to get going...
Tumblr media
HERE ARE A FEW TIPS:
Carry out maintenance as described in the user manual Buy a 5W30 synthetic oil and only add it after running in HERE ARE SOME accessories I bought for this generator and I highly recommend them
1. Ok this is very important if you are going to use a generator with a 30 amp trailer output for loss of power using extension cords then buy a trailer conversion plug (Voltec 30 amp conversion plug) 2. Magnetic Rod: 3. Hour meter (so you can keep track of how long it has been running for maintenance) 4. Champion wheelset 5. Champion 3100 Watt Generator Cover 6. Contractor Grade 100 ft. Extension cord purchased from Southwire 2 7. Cable entry 1 to 4 120v 20amp distributor purchased 2 All the accessories I have purchased are premium 5 star products which I have spent a lot of time researching and which help to safely get the most out of this Champion 100573 – Portable Inverter Generator .
I couldn't be happier with this generator. Champion did well. 8. The Sta-bil 360 gas additive was purchased and 1 oz was added to the generator with the fuel tank about 3/4 full, run the generator for half an hour, closed the fuel valve and waited for the generator to stop. The generator is now ready for storage.
Tumblr media
Conclusion: One last tip: you can't expect an engine to run 100% 24/7 and expect it to last...keep your load as low as possible, this will keep your gas consumption low and your generator lasts longer. If possible, buy a generator that produces 25% more power than you would expect to use.

Generac 7117 Gp2200I W 50St Inverter Generator Review
Intro:
Generac 7117 Gp2200I Generator  Is Great generator for a camper van. Incredible profitability compared to popular brands. super cool. Quieter than I expected. Weightless than expected. It starts very easily. I have no problem running the air conditioning. Very economical with fuel.
Tumblr media
Full review:
Generac 7117 Gp2200I Generator is absolutely perfect for my needs. I have a 30' travel trailer with 15,000 BTU A/C units, and my main concern has been intermittent spinning while docking.
I looked at the 2200 "red" because that's what my in-laws run, but I needed 2 people to run it (like they did). It puts me on the 2,200 price tag. Other drawbacks of this method: 2 motors to hold and a total of 102 pounds. (I try to travel as light as possible, so I always think about weight.) This method is 'professional' - it's properly named, it can be used anywhere.
However, let's get back to this one. The first thing I noticed was how light it was. It weighs a little more than a red Generac 7117 Gp2200I Generator. It's a little big, but not too big. You just took the first one out (make sure it's on the 'chalk' as it doesn't seem to start even when hot).
The next thing that struck me is how perfect this is… Just got back from a 4-day camping trip with a couple of families who have generators and people who are in common… I'm glad I have an inverter generator.
This is all I can say. I checked my DB meter and it continued to work with one of my in-laws. However, the GP3000i outperforms its two parallels while providing enough power to run on AC. Another observation was that even though it was recorded in the same way, it still seemed silent. I think it's probably because Generic runs at a lower frequency. He just felt less angry.
Needless to say, it works perfectly with my air conditioner. I haven't tried to get anything to work with the A/C on, but it works, and all the LEDs on my trailer are no problem. I have no doubt it will all work together in my trailer, probably without the microwave together. Don't really use that thing though.
My last comment was how much fuel it saves. I fill it up around 10:30-11:00, activate Eco mode and we can all sleep. Between 7:00-8:00 in the morning, he's been running my reactor all night and has about 1/3 of the tank left. I came home with about 2 gallons left in my 5-gallon gas canister.
So I still can't speak to longevity, durability or repairability. But I will update my review if/when I have that experience. However, at the moment I am very happy with my purchase. I saved $1,500 this way with little to no commitment information.

A great review of Generac GP3500iO:
Ordered on Sept. 4, the day a state of emergency was declared here in Florida by Hurricane Irma, with plenty of time to charge, lubricate, and check before we ran out of power on the morning of the 11th.
The Generac GP3500iO comfortably powered a two-door refrigerator with a door open and a small chest freezer, as well as a desktop computer, a cable Internet modem and Wi-Fi router, and multiple fans and LED light fixtures, all at once, along with intermittent use of a stovetop.
and 700-watt microwave. The typical run time of that load was 9-10 hours. At night we unplugged the fridge and freezer (both stayed quite cool overnight) and left the unit in Eco mode from about midnight to 8 am, then boiled enough water for coffee and tea with an electric kettle, and we would have a quick breakfast with an electric hob before plugging in the fridge and freezer again.
This charge would give us about 12 hours in a gas tank. I calculated for our purposes that it used about 2 1/2 gallons per 24 hours of run time. For the first few days we only used gas without ethanol, then we had to refill our cans and settle for what we could get, but the generator still seemed to work fine with E10.
However, I would only recommend high-quality ethanol-free gas. After the initial break-in, the replaced manufacturer supplied Mobil 1 5w-30 oil it already had, but when we got our internet service back and read some discussions and tips on the Bobistheoilguy.
com forums, we replaced it after 24 hours. hours with Shell Rotella. T6 5W-40 for a little more margin of safety in the Florida heat. Also, the Rotella was on sale for $21 a gallon, which I think will probably last me a few years with this generator.
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
I really love how quietly this Generac GP3500iO works, even with a good load! He controls everything in my 26' caravan, except the air conditioning; that's exactly what i want you to do. It's not light. It is heavy. I took a collapsible dolly to move it. I can lift it.

Pulsar G2319N 2,300W Portable Gas-Powered Inverter Generator Review
Pulsar G2319N 2,300W Portable Gas-Powered Inverter Generator with USB Outlet & Parallel Capability, CARB Compliant, Gray
Analysis:
I bought one of these (Powermate 2000i) at Walmart in December 2017 for $488.00 plus tax plus warranty. Out the door for just over $550. I've had many similar models and this is the best.
I never bought Honda or Yamaha because of the price. When I shopped at Walmart, I thought the same. "Okay, let's try this one and see how it goes." Fingers are always crossed.
Tumblr media
I rode this little bug 24/7 for almost 100 days, minus the time for an oil change, valve adjustment, etc before the Pulsar G2319N came. (Powermate still works perfectly after 1500 hours) Very happy with Powermate, I decided to buy the Pulsar with no warranty at a lower price from Amazon ($430.00) with parallel cable ($100).
I don't really need the extra amperage, but who knows. So excited about the performance, I decided what the hell. For the price of a Honda, you can get 2 of these pups, the parallel cable, and a few modifications.
The biggest problem I have with all of these units is that the drawstring can rub and break easily. It's no fun when it breaks. But it's not a deciding factor either. That's why I refuel it while it's running to ease extra starts. For fueling, I use an outboard hose with dual inline filters and 90 octanes ethanol-free fuel.
Never spill a drop, but it is not recommended by the manufacturer! Be careful when loading anything! At 15 gallons/week in eco mode. I live on a boat and my normal electricity consumption is 5-7 amps unless I am cooking.
Pulsar G2319N  there are well built, they are really easy to work with and really pleasing to the eye. I have not experienced any failure in any electrical component. As long as they are there I will never buy them again.
I always use Mobile 1 synthetic oil and change it every 4 days. (100 hours) Changing the oil is very easy. I use a West Marine hand pump oil extractor. Add 12 ounces at a 15-degree slope. It takes 5 minutes.
Tumblr media
The only difference between this unit and the Powermate apart from the color is that the Powermate has great covers for the 110v outlets and USB ports. Not the Pulsar G2319N  unit. Not sure if this is worth the extra $50 or not. Probably not.
In addition, because they operate 24/7 in a harsh marine environment, they are secured in a weatherproof sound box with air inlet hoods to protect them from rain and saltwater. You will not be disappointed. As with any engine, remember, "Use it or lose it."

About this Pulsar G2319N
2300 Watts Peak / 1800 Watts Operating
Rated for up to 4.8 hours of half-load on 1.18 gallons of fuel
Compact housing design, weighing less than 47 pounds For easy use
Stable Sine WAVE technology provides safe and pure electrical power to power and charge laptops, mobile phones, and other sensitive electronic devices.
Ideal for tailgating, camping, and small 120V appliances
Why should you buy it?
Pulsar G2319N worked well on my camping trip. It can be a bit noisy under load. I used it for my Keurig coffee maker. Make sure the vent on top of the gas fill cap is open or it won't work properly. Other than that, great generator for the price.

WEN 56203i Super Quiet 2000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator Review.
Analysis:
I love this WEN 56203i  generator. It's super quiet. You can talk normally while standing next to him. I have 3 years' experience with the "RED" WEN 56203i  generator brand and this will give you a good chance. I can buy 3 for the price of the other. The video is 3 meters away.
Tumblr media
UPGRADE:
I used this in the hunting camp for 10 days this year and everyone in the camp was impressed. It is quiet and ran 6-8 hours on one tank of fuel. (Depending on load) We had 2 travel trailers and a caravan using it.
WEN 56203i kept 3 battery chargers on all day. Along with the operation of high-demand devices during the 10 days. For those who want to know, your air conditioning does not work in a caravan/trailer. I knew before I bought it, but I had to try it. Once home it has been in my trailer for 3 months.
Then we had a storm that cut off the electricity. He went and got the WEN 56203i  generator. 2 shocks and it lit up. My friend just asked me to order one for him after struggling with his older generators during the same storm. Now we can buy the link kit and link them together if we ever need more power than will be produced.
I installed an hour meter on mine to know how many hours it has worked for oil changes. I also bought the magnetic wand for a bit of insurance. During the first oil change, there was a very fine metal on the magnet.
The second oil change was noticeably small and the third almost nothing. So the dipstick is worth the $10 to keep the metal shavings out of the oil/engine. I chose to use 5w30 synthetic oil.
WEN 56203i easier to start in cold temperatures and from what I've read right, even in higher temperatures I will camp. I really like that you can turn off the fuel and let the carburetor dry before putting it away and the cap.
WEN 56203i also has a closure. Be sure to open the airlock/vent cap before starting or you won't get fuel to start. I would recommend this WEN 56203i generator to anyone looking for a fairly reliable generator that won't cost an arm and a leg.

Includes two three-pin 120V receptacles, one 12V DC receptacle, two 5V USB ports, and a two-year warranty.
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
We recommend that you break it properly. There are several videos on Youtube on how to do this. Basically, let it run for an hour with three oil changes. Also, before turning it on for the first time, spray some Lucas oil into the spark plug hole to lubricate the cylinder.

WEN 56200i 2000-Watt Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator
Analysis  WEN 56200i:
I currently have a Yamaha EF2000is. Saw the WEN 56200i on specials recently and couldn't pass it up for the price. I could have bought two and changed what I paid for the Yamaha.
The reason I bought the WEN 56200i is that the motor is a Yamaha clone, it's very similar inside and the wiring diagrams are pretty much the same, so I think I can connect the two generators in parallel.
It is made in China, but the Yamaha has a label on the inside indicating that it is also made in China. The smartest tools also have the Yamaha engine, but they are all "Powered By Yamaha".
I don't know if WEN 56200i has a license for this engine or if it is a counterfeit. I bet both units can be made side by side in the same Chinese factory.
Tumblr media
Review  WEN 56200i:
I received it and let it run for a few days and I really liked it. First, it is very attractive. Inside, it almost seems to have the quality level of the Yamaha, although there are differences.
The engine has the same design but has a dipstick, while the Yamaha only has a plug. Spark plugs use different sized wrenches. The Yamaha inverter has a shell, but the components on the circuit board are open on the WEN 56200i .
One thing I like about the Yamaha that is missing from the WEN 56200i is the small door that allows you to access the oil fill hole without removing the entire side cover.
I greased it, gassed it, and then slowly pulled the starter rope a few times. Then I shot twice and it started. I ran it through several short cycles with alternating loads and then refrigerated it to break it down.
Then I got it to work next to the Yamaha testing it with the same loads. I think the Yamaha is a little quieter, but not by much. When the automatic throttle is engaged, Yamaha responds more quickly to charging, while the WEN 56200i flashes its overload light for a few seconds as it reaches a 1500 watt charge from idle mode. But there really seems to be very little difference in the performance or noise level of the two units. The WEN also weighs a few kilos more.
Update 01/04/2017 - A few years ago I gave away my Onan generator in my Class C motorhome and replaced it with more batteries, an inverter/charger, and solar panels. I always get lost and never get addicted.
I don't want to turn on a generator every time I want to microwave or make a cup of coffee. I carry the WEN56200 on the bus for when the solar energy isn't enough and I don't drive enough to charge the vehicle's generator battery bank. I turn on the WEN and let it run for a few hours at 90% load (with a tachometer included).
Tumblr media
I never carry extra gas with me because I have never returned from a camping trip where he used half of his tank. After a year, the WEN 56200i still works very well and starts up all the time. My Yamaha EF2000is is collecting dust in my workshop.
I ran it for several hours yesterday with a 40 amp battery charger that charged both 12-volt batteries in my big truck. It spun at 1/4 throttle and was barely audible from 15 yards away.
I just received the WEN Parallel Kit and yesterday tested the WEN56200i in parallel with my Yamaha EF2000is. Both generator sets ran in parallel without any problems. They split the load well with nearly identical RPMs.
Both gensets independently or coupled maintained a good constant speed of 60 cps. The maximum the gensets could charge in parallel was 3,000 watts before the overload light on the WEN 56200i came on.
The Yamaha is a bit stronger. See attached image. I've used them with two 1,500 watt heaters in different settings, as well as my air compressor. The little-known secret is that any brand name inverter generator capable of parallel operation can be paralleled with any other brand. Honda, Yamaha, WEN 56200i , smarter tools, etc.

I am really happy with this generator as it suits this purpose. We still have all of our food, not struggling to find gas or ice, and we're sleeping cool and have hot coffee and the DirecTV is getting us news. I can't speak to the long-term reliability of the unit and some of the negative reviews had me nervous, but four days of constant use have me writing this positive review. Very pleased. Hate Irma, love the WEN 56200i.
