Jim Rivett has a love for graphic design and other creative services that spans his entire career.
He’s putting that affinity in motion again. On Jan. 26, he opened Khrome, a creative services and media-buying agency, in a hip new setting in downtown Green Bay. Once renovations are complete, his company will be on the third floor of the historic Larsen Cannery building that is also home to the Titletown Tap Room.

It was a beautiful sunny morning when the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church opened its new gate to heaven the other Sunday celebrating the church’s 25th anniversary and the dedication of the newly expanded and remodeled facility. Just like the ground-breaking ceremony held a few months ago, the place was packed and the weather cooperated as the Holy Spirit presided over the festivities.
Certainly, something good is happening at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church on the city’s busy southwest side as church members turned out in force to celebrate its new addition, or to paraphrase the words of Reverend Jonathan Meyer, to open its new gate to heaven.

At the “topping out” ceremony last Friday, contractors on the CityDeck Landing apartment project placed the final wood beam; completing the project’s frame.   Those attending had a chance to sign their names to the beam prior to it’s being put in place. “Topping out” ceremonies, today known as an expression of pride, have long been used to signal the completion of a building frame.  The practice of “topping out” a new building can be traced to the ancient Scandinavian religious rite of placing a tree atop a new building to appease the tree-dwelling spirits displaced in its construction. Trades currently working on the project attended the topping out ceremony that posted a small pine tree to acknowledge the building’s skyward trajectory had reached its total height.

The U.S. Postal Service has an informal postal code often referred to during times of extreme weather, usually winter weather. Such was the case this past week when over 72 cold records were set throughout the country and we heard it again. “Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night …… can stop the completion of our appointed rounds.”
This was the scenario this past week where Smet construction projects remained active despite extremely harsh working conditions throughout most of the week. Many of our subcontractors remained on the job working through “winter conditions” and getting their work done.

This time of year is always a little unique. The end of year is approaching and while it can be the start of a slower season, it often is very busy as we work to complete tasks and projects before the holidays as well as some transactions prior to the year’s end. It also is …

Over 17% of Wisconsin’s employment base takes place in the manufacturing sector, but here in Northeast Wisconsin, over 24% of our employees make their living in this sector. Considering the importance of manufacturing to our part of the state, and the Smet tradition of constructing buildings within this sector, it only made sense for Smet to be one of the proud sponsors of the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce 2014 Manufacturing Awards of Distinction.

Just in time to get underway for the winter season, Smet Construction Services celebrated with one of its dear repeat customers, Fox Communities Credit Union, as it broke ground on its newest location on Green Bay’s near eastside. About the same time last year, in a near repeat scenario, we broke ground at Fox’s west-side location that opened spring of this year on Military Avenue.
Now, our forces have again joined together, this time to construct a new facility at 1820 East Main Street on the east-side. Fox Communities, President, Greg Hilbert, said “We are delighted to again be working with Smet. We know them and they know us and we know that our expectations will be met. They do an excellent job at bringing the job in on time and with quality. “

When it came to their old location, the doctors and nurses at the Bellevue Total Health Clinic were literally bursting at the seams. They had problems with double-booking of rooms, not enough space for the physical therapy programs and literally not enough rooms to see their patients. So they did what several doctors and health …
