“Park Chanyeol! We cannot be friends until you promise me something!” Your nine year-old self said.
“Okay! Okay! I’ll do anything, please I need a best friend,” Chanyeol pleaded to you.
“Hm, Park Chanyeol do you promise that you will never fall in love with me?!” You asked.
“Yes Y/N! I cross my heart & swear to die!” Chanyeol yelled with a smile.
“Okay, let’s be best friends,” you replied.
And that was the moment where you became best friends with Park Chanyeol. The two of you met when he saw you sitting by yourself at the Han River. Chanyeol noticed you were lonely and approached you, you never really knew why he did as he never told you. But since then, the two of you were inseparable as best friends. It’s hard for you to believe that the little promise was made fifteen years ago. For fifteen years, he was your best friend. Neither of you realized that, that moment would change everything for both of you. The promise wasn’t something either of you would forget. Both of you would constantly remind each other as you got older, even when you both started to mature at an age where it was possible to develop true feelings for someone.
You never thought of Chanyeol as more than a friend until you saw him with another girl, Jae Eun, eight months ago. It was only until then that you began seeing Chaneyol different. He wasn’t just your best friend, but soon someone you loved. You fell in love with everything about him from his big, dorky ears to his smile that could light up all the stars in the sky. You didn’t fight the feelings, you couldn’t if you wanted to. But when you catch yourself fantasizing over him, you remembered the promise. Before you found yourself in love with Chanyeol, you didn’t take the promise lightly. He has asked you out previously, but you always declined him because of the “promise”.
“One day,” he always said. He never stopped persisting, but it’s been a while since he asked you out. Knowing that and seeing him with another girl, gave you a thought. What if he did give up? What if he only saw you just as a friend? You shook your head to get rid of the thought.
You laid in your bed wondering where the two of you could go to tonight for your friendship anniversary. Wherever it may be, you were already content that you were going to spend the night with him. It’s all you could possibly ask for. Suddenly, your phone buzzed and you received a text message from Chanyeol. You got up from your bed and opened the text.
Park Chanyeol: Are you ready for tonight? You: Only if you are. Park Chanyeol: Han River at 6, don’t be late :)
You smiled with joy. He remembered where you both met, the Han River. You looked over at the clock only to see you had an hour left to get ready. It was a special night, so you decided to wear a casual floral dress; hoping it would captivate Chanyeol’s attention. After curling your hair and putting on a minimal amount of makeup, you grabbed your purse and began to walk towards your apartment door. Then, your phone buzzed again, it was Chanyeol.
Park Chanyeol: Bring an umbrella, it may rain tonight :( You: Will do!
“Great! It just has to rain on this day,” you thought to yourself. You didn’t expect Chanyeol to ask you out, but you were hoping that this night would be something neither of you would forget. Guess things don’t always play out in your favor.
You left your apartment and began walking to the Han River. It was a ten minute walk from your apartment. You began imagining all the possibilities that could happen tonight. Ever since seeing Jae Eun with Chanyeol, you just know he’s going to admit he has feelings for her. He never will with you because of that childish promise you both made fifteen years ago. Oh how so much regret filled your heart as you were walking to the river.
You saw a tall figure leaning over the fence as you walked closer to the river. It was him. Your heart fluttered as you saw him staring out into the river. He turned around and looked at your shoes while laughing.
“Huh? What’s so funny?” you asked.
“I could hear you from a mile away with those shoes, Y/N,” Chanyeol giggled as you began covering your face with your hands in playful shame.
Chanyeol’s laughing came to and end as he took a long look at you, admiring the way the dress hugged your curves and how your hair glistened in the night light. You tried your best to not notice and looked away.
“You look absolutely beautiful tonight Y/N,” Chanyeol said as he still admired your beauty. You smiled and walked closer to him, trying to act as if that comment didn’t make you as happy as it did.
“So, what were you looking at Chanyeol?” you asked.
“The stars really, as corny as that sounds.  It reminded me of that one night we were together. Do you remember when you forgot the keys to your house, so we just laid outside watching the stars?”
You smiled at Chanyeol, this boy could not forget anything.
“Yes, I remember perfectly,” you paused, “Chanyeol, do you remember that pro-” You paused once again as you felt something on your nose, a raindrop. Chanyeol giggled at your sudden observation of the rain drop.
“You were saying?” Chanyeol asked smiling.
“That promi-” You were cut off again as you noticed and heard more rain descending from the sky. Both you and Chanyeol grabbed your umbrellas quickly so you weren’t covered with the rain pouring from the sky.
“Please continue Y/N,” Chanyeol said.
“The promise... the one where you said you wouldn’t fall in lo-” Cut off once more due to Chanyeol laughing in the rain.
“Haha, I remember Y/N. I was hoping you would forget it.”
“What, why?” you pondered.
“Didn’t you notice Y/N, I broke it a long time ago! I broke it when I saw you after school sitting right here at this river fifteen years ago. You were admiring the scenery, whereas I was just admiring you. Ever since that day, I’ve been in love with you Y/N,” said Chanyeol.
“B-But, Jae Eun? I’ve been seeing you with her these past months...”
“Oh Y/N, she has a boyfriend. I asked her to hang around me so I could get you jealous. I guessed it worked, haha,” Chanyeol laughed.
You blushed and rushed into Chanyeol’s arms, finally. Chanyeol was in sudden awe as your small body was pressed against his. You never felt so secure until his arms were wrapped around your body. Chanyeol then put down his umbrella.
“A hug? Is that all I get after fifteen years?” Chanyeol exclaimed.
You giggled and stepped on your tippy toes to press your lips onto his as the rain collided onto both of your skins. The kiss was better than you imagined. It may have been brief but the kiss was enveloped with love that you have been waiting to receive.
Chanyeol pulled away and cupped your face with his hands, “Y/N, I loved you ever since I met you and I won’t ever stop.”
