Agreed, but clarification: GPS does NOT need internet. (Map updates would, but those could be done via USB or something). Also, GPS doesn’t need to be built in to a vehicle or have any connection to its other components. Having an external device is even better since then you have more flexibility for upgrading/features/etc when the car is no longer new.

I don’t think any wireless communication protocols need to be built into a vehicle, they will inevitably have some sort of security flaw. If any wireless communication is in a vehicle, it should be designed as transmit only, no receiving and if the software crashes, it shouldn’t affect driving functionality. If there is anything with received data, it should only be used for information, not used to perform any actions other than alerting the driver.

Really, what we need overall is more regulation in the programming aspect of many industries to prevent this shit... Not just on the implementation of security/etc, but on the need/use of these “features” in the first place.

back at the turn of the century there was this brief fad for techno mixes of classical music, which despite its short lifespan remains possibly my absolute favourite subgenre ever, even above ‘this angry robot wants to fuck you’. it appears the orchestral world has responded.
