Last night I enjoyed a much needed fabulous girls night with shopping, yummy food, and a night with the arts! We attended the 2013 Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts Spring 2013 Opening Celebration. They even had a preview of the upcoming Night Circus Gala performers! It was a beautiful performance of light and funny expression and technical strength that just amazes. The entire space was full to the brim and I have to say it seems like I just stumbled upon a hidden gem of arts and expression that I cannot wait to explore further! If this is just a taste of what to expect at Night Circus Gala on May 11th, I wouldn’t be surprised to dive into Alice in Wonderlands world herself that evening! What I would give to attend the gala! A spectacular night awaits any girl lucky enough to go <3

PAOLO SOLERI: MESA CITY TO ARCOSANTI
Tumblr media
In 2010, SMoCA initiated a series of three exhibitions exploring the trajectory of Paolo Soleri's art, architecture and philosophy. Paolo Soleri: Mesa City to Arcosanti is the second in the series. This exhibition will begin in the early 1960s when Soleri shifted his focus from bridges and residences to large-scale urban planning based on environmental accountability. Soleri's first comprehensive vision of a community is Mesa City, an example of what he calls an “arcology,” or an architectural project based on the synthesis of architecture + ecology. In Mesa City, Soleri combines the goals of high-density living, a vibrant urban space, environmental sustainability, respect for natural resources and a commercial sector based upon creativity. The exhibition will end with Arcosanti (arcology + Cosanti), a project primarily built in the 1970s and ’80s near Mayer, Arizona....

Ready, Set, Visit: "The Human Touch"- Exhibit Now Open
THE HUMAN TOUCH SELECTIONS FROM THE RBC WEALTH MANAGEMENT ART COLLECTION
Stimulating. Challenging. Engaging.  These are just a few adjectives that aptly describe RBC Wealth Management’s art collection.
With the human figure as its focus, the collection reflects the rich cultural diversity and complexity of contemporary society. From realistic to abstract, serious to whimsical, its works of art offer a breadth of approaches and subjects. Appropriation, performance, and digital manipulation are but a handful of the strategies deployed in the creation of these artworks; and hybrid racial identities, family dynamics, and ethnic heritage but a few of the complicated topics they tackle.
Made by both established artists—John Baldessari, Kerry James Marshall, and Ann Hamilton—and those rising in their careers—Luis Gispert, Chen Qiulin, and Michael Vasquez—the selections in this exhibition present a cross-section of identity that mirrors who we are and how we live today.
Organized by RBC Wealth Management. Curated by Donald McNeil.

Quote
Its title alone makes a wry play on Aristotle’s nascent idea about denial yielding absurdity, as does a preface to the exhibition, inscribed over a sagging floor: BURIED UNDER THE WEIGHT OF ITS OWN DISINTEGRATION.
-James Eischen of ArtForum.com on Héctor Zamora's exhibit at SMoCA
