Even tho it’s a 3 day weekend please don’t expect to see too much of me because I’m stressed over work/exams/projects/planning, plus I want to focus a bit more on nanowrimo ;v;

A very important aspect about Maddox’s personality that I’m most likely going to put in his about page:
The whole truth behind why Maddox does what he does is 'cause he knows the law is crooked. There’s no way he’ll ever get a taste of his own medicine through it. There's no way people will get what's coming to them unless someone else does the job instead. So he’s going to follow his own advice and take matters into his own hands. He does not think of himself as a hero even if he does have his morals. He’d genuinely think you’re delusional if you were to ever think of him as being morally superior to anyone gets in the crossfire with. He doesn’t think his world views are flawless. He only sees it as a personal perk that he gets to vindicate and sometimes eradicate people who are like him that haven’t gotten what’s coming to them yet. He’s still working for and waiting for the day that he gets his ass thoroughly handed over to him. It’s just pretty damn nice that part of the process is doing illegal things to equally as scummy people. They’re all going to hell so why shouldn’t he take a few with them?

Some general plot ideas with Maddox
While traveling out of town on business, Maddox “befriends” your muse, knowing it will help him in the days to come to have someone who will vouch as an alibi and who knows of his personality. He does some favors for your muse, gets a few drinks with them, casually meets up with them every so often, perhaps has your muse’s back on a little issue or two and when the moment’s right, shows up at your muse’s doorstep with blood on his hands and face, asking if they don’t mind him spending the night. If your muse tries to turn him in on spot or refuses, he just might pull out some details about your muse’s life that he’s been investigating; things they don’t want anybody knowing. And if nothing like that exists in your muse’s life? He’ll tell them in detail exactly how he’ll fabricate a story and the evidence to prove it. Some of it will be a bluff of course, but what’s that to a man interested in either having his way with the world or getting a taste of justice? Of course, he could actually become attached to your muse… but that wouldn’t stop him from finishing his work.
Maddox eventually takes a liking to your muse (details of how they meet/know each other can be plotted out!) and starts to show an interesting in their well-being as they spend more time together. That includes asking about home security, offering to show them how to properly watch their back without looking like they’re paranoid, teaching them how to use a knife (and maybe after that, a gun), how to disarm someone, etc.
FWB plot just ‘cause Maddox is the type to have those kinds of relationships, maybe with a little something on the side like Maddox only hooking up with your muse to get info on something or vice-versa. Maybe they met through equally shady lines of work. Maybe your muse is a sweetheart and Maddox is naturally attracted to them and is slowly plotting out how to hurt them. Who knows.
SOMEBODY WITH A PARANORMAL/SUPERNATURAL MUSE OR A VERSE WHERE THEY’RE NOT HUMAN COME FUCK HIM UP PLS. He’ll become absolutely obsessed with the idea that Humans Aren’t Alone and you but your ass as much as he’ll be a cynical skeptic and still laugh at the idea of secret monster societies and realms, he’ll be intrigued as to how he can fuck up a non-human’s life
Your muse hires Maddox to do dirty work like creating alibis, organizing a body dump, collecting illegal evidence, or just some investigating. It can be for something very serious… or maybe your muse doesn’t know just how serious Maddox’s work tends to be and hires him to do something a bit more superficial. He’s humored by it, so he does it anyway since he’s more curious about your muse’s reaction than anything else.
Just a regular ol’ plot with Maddox being off-and-on again work partners with someone, because I feel like the dynamic would be ~neat~ no matter if he does or doesn’t personally get along with your muse.

∵ ✕ ∴ ———   “Couldn’t leave before the cops showed, hm?” The man Maddox addressed looked imposing at the least, but he didn’t feel very intimidated at the moment. He had other things to worry about, such as the idiot employer who’d botched this entire job up. What should have been a simple drive-by had turned into an obnoxious brawl and then a very messy stabbing. In the end, he wouldn’t get the rest of his payment; the man he’d pulled the strings for to get the right people into the right bar and at the exact right time had gotten himself gutted. Annoying, but that’s what happened when people tried to make their business personal. Now he just had to do his best to blend in with those that had gathered outside and those who were slowly being released from questioning on the inside. At the very least, he had a good headlining for tomorrow.

Dark brown eyes turned their gaze up to the stranger who had just lumbered out from the bar-turned-crime scene. He absolutely reeked of alcohol and brooding. Perfect. “Any statements on it all?” He offered a hint of a smile. “It’s my job to ask questions-- so I’ll pay.”

Maddox: [takes a genuine liking to someone] Maddox: Alright, time to teach you how to commit murder and get away with it because you can never be too prepared.
(or alternatively: Oh, you already know how to murder? Okay then I guess our options are card games and coffee or taking a camping trip somewhere we’d most likely get jumped).

∵ ✕ ∴ ———   “The world’s a dangerous place these days, and yet you run around like it’s a playground.” Maddox followed his observation by taking a short drag of his cigarette. Normally the nicotine would have soothed the adrenaline pumping through his veins after an incredibly eventful work night. It hadn’t. Because of it, he felt more talkative than usual-- which was to say, he was surprised he actually felt like making conversation. Then again, this peculiar woman had a way of making him feel a tad more personable every time she came around.
Tumblr media
He cocked an eyebrow up as he glanced over at her. Once again, dressed up like a doll. Strange girl. “Why’s that?” he asked, nothing but pure curiosity in gravelly voice despite how cynical the words may have otherwise sounded.

∵ ☼ ∴ ———  He had traveled a long, long journey to find his way here. He’d gone alone. Nobody and nothing else needed to accompany him save for the brewing thoughts that had brought him to the decision to make this very journey. The man had heard of the fabled Northern Guardian in countless tales. Heard of his decisive cruelty and judgment, heard of the icy treatment he’d given all who’d crossed him. Normally, he would loathe any such creature who would invoke those beneath them with such despicable wrath. Now? Now he could only hope that wrath might pour out on him since all the others before refused to bring him to his knees.
Naturally, Maddox had not known what to expect from the Guardian. He’d seen many beasts, monsters, kings, queens, tyrants, and unnameable beings during his time as a ‘chosen one’. Many of them had scarcely looked human. To his relief, this one looked almost like any man he could pass on the streets back home. He had no doubt that could change in an instant, but for now, it compelled him to approach and ask what he came for.
With a deadened gaze and tall stature wrapped in heavy cloak drawn to its full height, Maddox stood before the Northern Guardian and made no greeting. He only stared. In the presence of this being, the armor he wore beneath warm trappings had never felt so heavy in his entire life. When he finally spoke, his voice rumbled out in a baritone croak as if he hadn’t spoken in weeks.
Tumblr media
“I’ve heard you’re a merciless judge and have never once hesitated to give what’s due,” he stated, tone holding neither awe or disgust only mere fact. “Do you have the time to give a criminal the execution that’s long overdue?”
