Chapter 1: The Rebirth of the Phantom Thief. Pt 1

The cover is really colourful! I like the contrast of the red with the blue and white, it really makes him stand out. Even his hair is coloured blue, (which means that it's black and needed a colour to add shading to it.) The pink tie is also very cute! The pink is different enough from the red that it still holds a good contrast, even though they are both similar colours.

I like the complimentary and the analogous colours on these two. The yellow really stands out against the deeper blue and the green is so vibrant. Actually, all the colours are vivid and vibrant! I really like the contrast with the yellow in the first one though. These seem to be showing some main characters. A boy with a long haired girl in swimming gear, and the same guy in a different outfit with a short haired girl dancing. There's likely to be a swimming scene and a party or ballroom scene.

They both look so cute! It turns out the long haired girl actually had medium length hair, I just couldn't see it well in the other image.

What the heck. That robot is really creepy looking. I do like the exaggerated expressions in this art style, it gives the characters lots of personality. I wonder where he got the bird to put in the forehead? And why. This whole robot is weird, why are there flags coming out of the mouth, and the why the bird, and why the eyes popping out. (I tried to identify the flags, it's interesting that the flags that come out of the robots mouth are the American flag, the French flag(?), the Japanese flag, and a blank flag. (I could be wrong with the French flag because it's in black and white but it seems the most likely because all other tricolour vertical striped flags don't fit as well as the French one did with the Dark-White-Light greyscale version)). It looks like it was made to surprise and overstimulate, which was probably the intended effect. What I don't like, is him peeking under her skirt. Gross.

My thought process was, "Does he have a GUN??? Oh. It shoots cards. But STILL, it looks like a GUN. Why does he have this on him??"

Ah, so they're both geniuses who can solve math problems no issue whilst fighting each other. Got it.

Spider behavior. Hiding in a corner on the ceiling from a mop.

So Aoko's dad is a police officer then, if he's trying to catch a thief. She has some respect towards Kaitou Kid in terms of his tricks being impressive. And Kaito is going to try and challenge/catch the thief for Aoko. Interesting dynamic being established with their views towards Kaitou Kid. Kaito is also very confident, saying that he'll catch a thief that even the police haven't been able to capture.

So this is Aoko's dad, he's trying to catch Kaitou Kid and he's a Nakamori. Same as what the teacher called Aoko when using her full name to call on her to answer a question. Nakamori seems very fixated on the Kaitou Kid, even going as far to push aside a murder case for the thief. Kaitou Kid has been missing for 8 years, it seems. Presumed dead by the public.

Oop, dead father. Also, was his father Kaitou Kid? Because that's what this seems to be implying. Either his father isn't actually dead and abandoned his kid for 8 years, or this is someone else. I'm leaning towards the latter. Did Toichi really name his son Kaito? Is it similar to Kaitou which means phantom thief? It's probably different in Japanese but it's funny that it's one letter off in English. I looked it up and: "Kaito" (快斗) "Kaitou" (怪盗). Yeah, different.

This is stupid. On stage magic is a different skill from being a phantom thief performing tricks to misdirect or escape (I assume that's how Kaitou Kid uses his tricks as a thief, there's no way he was just putting on normal magic shows in the middle of stealing).

He's never touched or bumped into that picture of his dad before? I suppose that's what this is implying but still. Also why is there a secret passage way in Kaito's room if this is going to be a secret Kaitou Kid lair. Wouldn't it make more sense to be in Toichi and his wife's room because he's Kaitou Kid. He didn't have to hide it from his wife because she clearly knows.

This is a hazard

Did Kaitou Kid wear a mask or not? Because in Inspector Nakamori's mind he wears a mask but in the picture of Toichi he is wearing no mask and a monocle, like Kaito is on the cover.

I checked back and the copycat held a heist looking like that, but it seems that no one thinks it's weird that Kaitou Kid is wearing a mask. Or suspects that it's a copycat because of any differences.

We get the whole scene of him being discovered AND the media coverage afterwards. Neither express any confusion at a mask. The media is skeptical by nature and always wants the next big scoop. Instead of Kaitou Kid strikes again, they could have mentioned a successful copy cat or even a successor. But no, it's Kaitou Kid specifically.

I'm going to read Magic Kaito for the first time!

I'm going to blog all of my reactions live on here. I'm not going to go in completely blind, just visually impaired. I know the gist of the story but no specifics.
