During WW2 Allied aircrews operating in the European theatre were issued silk escape maps packed in a brown rubberised fabric purse that was sealed in a clear waterproof covering to keep the contents dry. The purses contained the foreign currency of the countries over which the planes would be flying. The money was intended to help downed crew members in obtaining local assistance while attempting to return to friendly lines. The purses also contained a miniature brass compass and a small metal hacksaw blade.

Many people are dependent on a mobile device for navigation but what happens when the device fails, signal is lost or the battery simply runs out of power?

You don't have to be shot down over enemy occupied territory to appreciate an escape map. Losing your bearings and becoming disoriented in a hostile environment/bad neighbourhood can happen to anyone.

Escape maps are intended only to give an escaper or evader an idea of the general direction in which to proceed. Having a map to hand is therefore always recommended when you travel.

Designed to bypass latch locks on doors that open outwards, external security gates and any other exposed latch lock that can be hooked or shoved to bypass without a key. It is the same size a credit card and can be kept inside a wallet.
