I have yet to really talk about my story. I have always been bigger. Ever since elementary school and, often, it was the perfect weapon for bullies. My weight has been commented on by peers, teachers, and family. I dig deeper into food to cure my feelings. Food still loved me... I got better in high school when I joined dance team. Lost weight, but was still the largest girl on the team. I stayed active through high school, but then college started... So in December of 2017, I was a sophomore in college, home in Illinois for the holidays, and oblivious. My grandmother took a picture of me and I couldn’t recognize myself. I was 285 pounds but knew how to tilt the camera just right to fool myself. I could stop and say it was the school work, or the bad relationship, or the stress, or even that I loved myself that way. But those were excuses. Now don’t take that the wrong way. I do love myself. No matter what I look like, I am beautiful, smart, witty, and worthy. Still, it was taxing to climb stairs, my blood pressure was high and I was 19. I needed to get rid of this extra weight because it wasn’t me. How did such a determined and driven girl let her health decline so much? I want a long and fulfilling life. So I went back to Alabama, cleaned out the pantry and started fresh. I was at the gym every day. By June, I had lost 40 pounds. By September, I had lost 70. I am 75 pounds lighter, I’ve got tons of energy, I can run up stairs, and I haven’t given up a thing. How???? You ask? I’ve only added more to my life. I’ve added stress relief through the gym where I can clear my mind of unnecessary things. I’ve gained creativity as I’ve added all types of new foods, fruits, veggies, and experiences as I try them. I’ve gained a better mental control; I may still eat Oreos and cinnamon donuts, but in moderation as to not impact my energy. I am back to high school weight and am the happiest I’ve been. I’m so much fitter, I’ve got a supportive fiancé, a future stepdaughter that watches my choices, and overall motivation to be truly fit. Many will look at my progress pictures and say I’m still fat. But I look at how far I have come. I hope to be an inspiration to others that need a push or a hand to pull them up.

Day 18 and 19
I swapped up my days a little. I read a poem yesterday... for class. Darkness by Byron. It is a tragic poem that coaxes a good bit of anxiety out of me, but yesterday I broke it down into pieces and found a bit of peace from it. Today, I committed myself to eating all whole foods. I got some fresh cut pork chops from the butcher and grilled them up with some potatoes and zucchini. I packed myself a salad with chili-seasoned chicken, corn, and a bit of zesty ranch (shhh...) for dinner and an orange. It was a day full of flavor and creativity! Tomorrow is supposed to be date night but I have to work, so it will need a rain check! What did y’all choose to eat on your day 18?
