Goal Setting
Its that time of the year again, classes are back in session! It's important to take the steps to ensure all of our responsibilities are being fulfilled. But how does one stay organized with their college classes, work schedule, family life, and any other obligations they may have? We all have the same 24 hours in the day, but how do some people seem to be more productive than others...It comes down to one aspect of organization; time management. And the single most powerful tactic to help you organize your time, is goal setting. I’m not talking about using your smartphone calendar either. Scheduling apps on your smartphone definitely come in handy but you don’t get the benefits of having a paper calendar in front of you. Let me explain. If you utilize technology to help you maintain your schedule, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, you will have to deal with constant notifications, beeps, alerts, and messages. You’ll be having to open another tab, fire up another piece of software, or launch another app to access calendars that will amount to one more on-screen thing beggin for my attention. With so much of my work and personal life already dedicated to a computer, sometimes the most helpful thing can be to take a breath and walk away. When it comes to creating and setting goals for ourselves, whether short term or long term, it can sometimes be easy to forget about them over time. Sure we start the new year off with grand intentions. Some of the to write our goals down, step by step. We even give them a deadline. We are feeling pumped and full of energy, bursting with possibilities. And then the days start slipping by as we move on with real life, and next thing we know it’s June and that feeling of “Yes! I can do this!” has faded into “I’ll get to that later.” You see, setting our goals is the easy part. What so often gets forgotten is that we have to check in with our goals. We need to review them often. We need to make sure we’re moving forward on them. We need to create a reward system. The good news is, that we already have the perfect tool to help us with this one. The Planner. Let us give you a few tips on how to utilize it to its maximum potential. It boils down to Goals, Milestones, Habits, and Rewards. It only takes a little bit of time each week and month, but the results are so worth it. Check them out.
WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS
Robin Sharma, a well known author and leadership speaker, once said, ‘Writing down the brave acts and bold dreams you intend to accomplish will provide the spark to get it done.” This is absolutely true. Many of the most successful leaders, businessmen, and innovators start by visualizing their goals. The make weekly, monthly, and yearly goals and then they break them down into smaller goals. This would be a great time to bring up S.M.A.R.T. goals. This is an acronym used to help one define their goals. It stands for; Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely. Your goal should be clear and specific, otherwise you won't be able to focus your efforts or feel truly motivated to achieve it. When drafting your goal, try to answer the five "W" questions: What do I want to accomplish? Why is this goal important? Who is involved? Where is it located? Which resources or limits are involved? This is the first step to getting your thoughts organized. Use this system to help you organize your thoughts into measureable and achievable goals both short term and long term.
MARK YOUR DEADLINES Whenever you set a goal, it is always important to give it a deadline. Short term goals are easier than long term goals since you might not know an actual date for the completion of a long term project. However, you can set supportive small term goals or steps to take to get to reach that long-term goal, and give those a deadline. Here at SnapWeb, we call them milestones. Once you have a deadline for your goal, write down your milestones on how to get their in your planner. I personally use my monthly calendar pages for this, but you could enter them into your weekly or daily planner if you want too. The monthly view will give you an overview of the major milestones for the month. But this milestone system will give you a measuring tool to see if you are actually progressing towards your goal, and to help you adjust if you are not. Marking your deadlines is a crucial part of achieving your goals. It is a tangible reminder that this is something you really want to do, and having that deadline in your calendar will help you create your plan of attack for moving forward with it. PLAN TO CHECK IN ON YOUR PROGRESS Now that you have your milestones marked down, it’s time to set some check-in dates. Scheduling time to go take account of where you are on your journey to achieving your goals is a great way to help keep yourself on track. These sessions don’t have to take a lot of time, they’re just meant to be a way to check your progress. Think of them as pauses in your journey to double check your map and compass to make sure you’re really on the right path. I like to break my timeline into quarters, so if one of my goals has a deadline of December 31st, I’ll schedule check-ins on March 31st, June 30th, and September 30th. For each check in, have a reward system attached to it. For example, the same way bodybuilders set a weekly cheat meal after a week of strict dieting. Or hanging out with loved ones after a month of working hard. You can get as specific as taking a break to relax after several hours of studying. The reward system. Very effective tool. SCHEDULE RECURRING TASKS The next step is scheduling in recurring tasks. Creating habits that will help set your routine. These are those things you need to do on an ongoing basis to meet your goal. This could be something as simple as go to the gym 5 times a week. Write it very big across the top of your weekly view in your planner. Maybe one of you goals is to make more healthy eating choices, and one of the ways you’re going to do this is by choosing to have one meatless meal a week. Pick a day each week, and write a note in your calendar to remind yourself of that. Maybe your goal is to finish creating your personal brand and one of your steps is to spend a certain amount of time on the weekend writing blogs. Write it down, for EVERY WEEK until your deadline. Smaller recurring tasks will eventually lead to the completion of the bigger on. That’s the key, schedule these tasks from now until your deadline. I know it takes time, but taking that time now, means you don’t have to worry about it later. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” -Aristotle SET ASIDE TIME FOR EVALUATION Let’s face it, life changes, and with it, so do our priorities, ambitions and dreams. So it’s important to set aside some time to evaluate your goals. This step alone has been such a crucial one for helping me achieve my goals. Most people are scared of change, don't be! In order to succeed, we have to be able to adapt! Working for something that no longer matters to us can be really draining. Never be afraid to change your goals. They should be things that matter to you or hold importance in your life. If they no longer meet that criteria, it’s time to change things up. There are a few questions you can ask yourself as you evaluate your goals. is this something that still matters to me? is this something I still want or need to do? is this a supportive goal for my long-term goals? If so, is it crucial, or just something I thought I needed to do? is this helping me get where I want to go? do I really want this or is this something I felt like I should do?
Use your answers to decide if you’re going to keep on moving forward with your original plan, if you’re going to make changes to you original plan, if you’re going to put that goal on hold for a little bit, or if you’re going to completely change or even ditch your goal. Use these evaluation times to make course corrections on your journey to achieving your goals. If your goals aren’t going to be moving you in the direction you want to go in, change them or set them aside. Remember it is absolutely ok to let go of a goal. Goals are supposed to the road maps that lead us to where we want to go, don’t let yourself be led astray by ones that no longer make sense to you. And don’t allow your journey to take longer or be harder than it needs to be. Use your planner or whatever works for you, to keep them from being lost in the everyday shuffle of life. These simple steps have made a world of difference on my own journey to achieving my goals. I hope it does the same for you
Remember a goal without a plan is just a wish. Set your goals and crush them. Good luck!

Time Management: Tips and Tricks

Time management is defined as the organization and planning of how to divide your time between specific activities. The point of effective time management is making sure you work smarter, not necessarily harder. Failing to manage time efficiently will cause you stress and hurt your business in the long run. Even though it is not a very difficult concept... without proper organization and prioritization, it is hard to do in practice. I hear people saying all the time that they don’t have enough time in the day. It may feel that way but the reality is that we all get the same 24 hours.. So why is it that some people achieve so much more with their time than others? The answer is effective time management. They have built a system where they get more done in less time. There’s no doubt that time is one of our most precious assets. Once we lose it, we cannot get it back. We must learn and discipline ourselves to budget our time like we budget our money. So with that being said, here are a few tips that you can immediately implement into your daily routine to make your lifestyle a little bit easier.
Use a Planner!
Write EVERYTHING down. Create a to do list. this will help you organize your thoughts. Yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily goals. It helps to write down and visualize your goals. All of the most successful in the world can attest to this.
Make sure you have a notes section in your planner for quick access. This will come in handy if you're on a phone call and need to write a phone number or email down. Carry it with you everywhere you go. It'll make your life so much easier, i guarantee it.
Cross each task out as you complete them for continuous motivation.
Plan tomorrow, the night before. Even to the extent of writing down the specific timings.
Wear a Watch!
This is a simple but very beneficial trick. You will always have the time on your mind without having to pull out your phone.
Keep a clock close by. Next to your night stand, in the shower, in your office. Be aware of the times the sun rises and sets. This is how you train your body to wake up and sleep on time (but lets save this topic for another blog post).
Batch Similar Tasks Together.
Create a system, be effective and efficient.
I personally do a few quick phone calls while I’m on my commute. I found this to be easy to handle while I’m sitting in traffic (dont text and drive, use bluetooth!).
Prep meals, iron your clothes, and do the little tasks the day before. It takes a few minutes and will speed up the mornings tenfold.
A lot of time management books claim that you should do the hardest tasks first. I don’t know how effective that is since sometimes client meetings or work responsibilities are later in the day. But you should definitely try to figure out and efficient system. Example. Wake up early before everyone is awake to have some alone time, workout in the mornings when the gym is empty, shower after your workout, eat a healthy breakfast to keep you motivated and energized throughout the day… See, that's a simple workflow and system so you're not wasting any time
Eliminate time wasting tasks (why would you watch netflix while trying to do your homework, that will slow you down and divert your attention)
Be Decisive.
Decisiveness is an important characteristic of a leader and is described as the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively.
Nobody likes double minded people. Make a decision, stick with it. Listen to your gut, your first instinct is usually very accurate. If you make a bad decision, recover quickly and grow from it. You’ll get better with each decision and will learn what works and what doesn't.
Limit your options. Narrow it down to the two best. Try to make a decision under a minute.
Remember: indecision kills. Time is money and wouldn't waste your money would you?
Prioritize and Delegate.
Whether its in business or at home, evaluate what tasks need the most attention. If it is something that can be outsourced. Do it. If you need a website or headshots for your business, would it be smart to learn how to code or buy a camera and learn editing? No. In this case it might be smart for you to pay someone to do it right the first time, so you can focus on your business.
Balance, work life balance. Use the reward system. Take mini breaks when you need them during the day to recharge and refocus. Take lengthy breaks away from work at the weekend, in the evening and on holiday to help you stay productive long term.
Plan ahead, don’t play checkers…. play chess.
Learn to say NO!
Don’t be a people pleaser, you’re not here to make everyone happy. Keep in mind that you do not need a reason to say No.
Establish your personal boundaries. The people you surround yourself with should understand and know your intentions. Don’t fall victim to unnecessary persuasion techniques.
Be swift and firm. Respond to requests as quickly as they come in. You can say no thank you and move on with your day. There’s no point in wasting anyone’s time or yours.
In Conclusion...
Most people claim they are busy. But busy is just an excuse. It doesn’t matter how full your schedule is. Have you accomplished everything on your to do list? Do you have time to sit at home and watch netflix? If you answered yes to the last question, then you are not busy. Either way, the point is not to be busy but productive. Productivity is the key. I know people that are full time students, work 2 jobs, are involved in student organizations, AND maintain a social life. Or entrepreneurs that have their own business or two, have investments they need to keep track of, consistently find time to learn and perfect their skills AND take care of their families. This is where time management plays a significant role. Actually it would probably be more accurate calling it lifestyle management. All these tips can be incorporated into your lifestyle to make it as efficient and effective as possible. My team and I consistently study the greatest influencers, entrepreneurs, leaders, and subject matter experts and we have compiled these tips as the most common practices. By implementing these proven techniques you can maximize your potential and cut out any time wasting activities. Once you see that you have the ability to finish any task set out in front of you you will be as motivated as ever. It’s all about how you prioritize and effectively knock these tasks out on a daily basis.
Remember: everyone has the same 24 hours a day, 168 hours a week. How will you spend yours?

Networking 101
Networking is defined as “the cultivation of productive relationships for employment or business.” The key word is productive! It is essential for the relationship to have a mutual benefit that networking provides for both individuals and businesses. It’s one of the fastest and most proven ways to gain new business with qualified companies that need your goods or services. Businesses want to be networked with great salesmen, top talent, and creative employees. And of course, top-performing employees want to be networked to the best opportunities out there. Businesses need excellent product and service providers (vendors), and networking provides an opportunity for these suppliers to meet these companies directly and efficiently to determine mutual value. Networking is also crucial to any entrepreneurial venture. This is one of the best ways to find warm leads and high ROI partnerships that can help your business see results almost immediately.
In today’s world, networking can be done several different ways: The first is with your personal network or keeping in contact with your Rolodex (look it up if you don’t know what that means). Whether it is using your email contacts or personal phone calls and texts. The second is by attending high-end events and networking face to face. The third is through LinkedIn and other social media. LinkedIn was created specifically for professional networking, but other social sites, like Facebook and Twitter in addition to industry blogs…. can provide excellent ways to connect or reconnect with people and expand your network. Here are 10 tips on how to become a networking genius and maximize your presence online and at networking events.
1. Get Business Cards!
First and foremost...Every professional should have business cards! A business card is a tangible object that you can use to provide your contact information to potential customers. Most business cards contain your business name, your name and title, your telephone number, and an email address. If your company has a website, include its URL so that customers can receive more detailed information through it. You can also put your social media links depending on the industry. Resist the temptation to place more information on your card than necessary, as space is limited and it’s easy to overcrowd a business card. If done right, it leaves a memorable first impression, reflects company values, and differentiates you from your competition.
2. Have a Purpose for Each Connection.
People utilize networking events for a variety of reasons including finding a job, meeting potential clients, or just socializing with other people in their niche. Expert networker Murray Newlands suggests, "Before you arrive at an event, ask yourself what you're hoping to achieve and what you need to do to achieve it." Is your goal to feel out a new organization and get to know the vibe? Is it to meet five new potential clients? Is it to find a cheaper supplier? Is it to meet two specific high net worth people? These are all reasonable expectations and it takes a little pre-planning to set these goals. Do a little research beforehand and figure out what kind of people will be there. Utilize LinkedIn and other social media during your research.
3. Introduce Yourself, Make a Great First Impression
An "open" posture means that your head is up at all times (get off your phone), arms and legs uncrossed -- conveys an openness to being approached. Looking at the floor or crossing your arms, on the other hand, can convey unfriendliness or even hostility. Networking events can be awkward. Particularly if you're an introvert, starting conversations may not come naturally. Vow to overcome your natural temptation to blend into the woodwork, and make a point of introducing yourself to at least five people. Shake hands with a firm but friendly web grip. A hand shake not only increases the positive effect toward a favorable interaction, but it also diminishes the impact of a negative impression. Ask them to repeat their name if you didn’t catch it the first time. Repeat it in conversation so you remember it better (write it down if you have to). People will automatically connect to you if you remember their name. (Check out How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.) Oh yea, and SMILE.
4. Discuss Commonalities and Ask Questions to Connect with People
People tend to gravitate toward those with whom they share similarities. This is known as the similarity attraction effect. When meeting others with shared traits or experiences, be sure to point out the similarities you have to increase perceived social compatibility. This can happen on social media as well. See what people are interested in based on what they post and have a conversation about that. Too often I encounter people who are interested only in talking about themselves. Instead of wasting golden opportunities by blabbing about yourself, ask thoughtful questions. Focus on quality, not quantity. Spending time engaging in meaningful conversations with a few people is often better than floating around the room engaging in short, superficial conversations. Aim to make real connections by asking questions, listening intently and moving beyond small talk. Remember to actually listen to the answers so you can remember them for future use.
5. Be a Connector of Resources (or the PLUG as I’d like to say).
Instead of focusing only on making your own connections, make an effort to connect others. When speaking with someone, think about whether there's someone else at the event who could help (or be helped) by this person, and then make an introduction. In my own work life all I do is connect the dots. THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST VALUABLE TRAIT YOU CAN HAVE. Nobody likes that guy or gal who attends events to push products onto people. Networking events may result in leads, but should never be used as a way to directly sell or promote your products. Be the middleman and help others by connecting them with the right person. Encourage both parties to follow up with you after they meet so that you can hear what came of their interaction. It will not only pay in dividends for you, but it will give you more credibility than you can imagine.
6. Perfect your elevator pitch.
There's nothing worse than being asked the question, "What do you do?" and suddenly coming up blank. The idea of a traditional elevator pitch is a bit outdated, but the underlying strategy is still a good one: Come up with a few sentences you can use to accurately describe yourself or your business while making a good impression and keeping the other person engaged. Being an effective networker means going into events with purpose and a plan. You have to be self-aware and know exactly what you do and how you can PROVIDE VALUE to everyone around you. Some people think that this kind of thing is only useful for salespeople who need to pitch their products and services. But you can also use them in other situations. For example, you can use one to introduce your organization to potential clients or customers. You could use them in your organization to sell a new idea to your CEO, or to tell people about the change initiative that you're leading. You can even craft one to tell people what you do for a living. Perfect for networking events. Introduce yourself, explain what you do, communicate your unique selling point, summarize your goal, and engage with a returning question. Practice makes perfect, try it!
7. Show Your Value To New Contacts
People are more likely to want to connect with you if they think there’s something advantageous to them in making a connection with you. Share your knowledge! It’s the classic case of “what’s in it for me.” Share your knowledge and provide them value! Perhaps you discussed a shared interest or some other timely topic. Share additional information with your new contact by sending a link to an article you recently read about that topic, if you are a photographer, give them a free headshot, share knowledge in terms of your favorite book etc. Some of the best networkers put their own personal motives aside to connect other people. This can take place at the networking event or afterwards, but try to make connections between the people who you have recently met. This also helps with remembrance because both people will remember you as the person who connected them. If you stay in the person’s short-term memory, he/she will be likely to contact you when there’s a job opening in your field. Sharing is caring. If you are willing to share your contacts and resources, others will be more likely to help you as well. Develop a sincerity in your giving nature without expectation of something in return. This will tie in with being resourceful.
8. Follow up!
After you have attended a networking event and have a pocket full of business cards that you’ve collected...Now what? A networking event is just the jumping-off point for starting a new professional relationship, the follow up is the key to developing and nurturing it. It's best to do it within 24 hours. Send a quick email. Simply say that you enjoyed meeting them and try to reflect back on a point from the conversation. Something like, “It was so nice to meet you at the Chamber of Commerce event last night! Best of luck with your son’s baseball championship this weekend!” With potential clients, you can also schedule your next meeting “We started to talk about the synergies we have in our businesses and I’d love to continue that conversation. How does your schedule look next Thursday to grab coffee or lunch?” It doesn’t have to be long or formal, but you need to move the ball forward. Use LinkedIn or other social media. When they have a work anniversary, a birthday (and the small stuff). Even if you don't have your contact's birthdays on file, Facebook and LinkedIn make it easy for you to reach out. Social media also provides other occasions to reach out. For example, is one of your contacts’ having a family celebration soon? A surgery? A child? Reach out and send your well wishes. All these are occasions for follow-up. These small gestures will go a long way.
9. Realize Technology Is Your Friend
One of the easiest ways to stay in touch with a contact is to connect with the person on LinkedIn. Instead of sending the boring form message, type in a few sentences about the networking event you just attended and a snippet from your conversation. People have an easier time remembering your meeting if you remind them where you met and what you talked about. There are also some apps that can make networking easier while you’re still at the event. Some of these apps allow you to exchange the regular business card information, as well as links to the person’s social media presence. With the click of a button, you can connect on-the-spot with the person you just met. Additionally, you can use a note-taking app to record pertinent information about the person and why you need to follow-up after the event. You have a laptop and a cell phone. Literally, the only devices needed to do business nowadays. Use them well.
10. Be yourself!
If you can't be yourself, you’ll be starting off these new relationships with a lie. Don’t try to be the person you think others want to meet. The people you connect with when you are authentic are the ones you’ll want to stay in touch with. Be genuine, be resourceful, be respectful, be a connector, and most importantly….be yourself!
Your network is your net worth.” -Anonymous

STORYTELLING for BRANDING
Storytelling is the art of sharing stories, emphasizing certain points, using embellishment to convey a message. Stories or narratives have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, or a vehicle to share values. A story can be told in many ways including via a painting, videography, photography, poems, writings, books and etc. It is an art that is very difficult to master but when one has mastered it, they can affect people in ways that will bring long term loyalty to a brand or product.
In the online world, it is very easy to tell the story of your brand so it appeals to a certain audience. Telling a story affects people emotionally and gets them attached to your brand and this is the best way to raise brand awareness and brand loyalty. Once the people are emotionally attached to you brand they will come back for more in terms of what you are providing to them. The CONTENT! For example, a small coffee shop could have a video about what the coffee shop means to the local public and how it provides a place for the local people to hang out, chat, sip some coffee and have a good time. The aspect of the local community having an attachment and depending on such a coffee shop will definitely bring in a loyal customer base.
Now one would ask, how does story telling work? Well you take a concept or a grand idea and you explain it in the most creative way you can. While being creative, you have to understand what the public or your targeted group likes and dislikes. You also have to ask what form of storytelling would be most effective in certain situations. To be creative while telling a story you have to show your concept or idea in different angles. Showing one angle, being in a poem or painting would be dull and boring to the people, but the second you show a different side that has not yet been shown suddenly people open their minds and think about what you have show/told them. This will build anticipation and allow people to be on the lookout for more content from your brand.
Storytelling is increasingly used in advertising in this day in age. Companies are using highly memorable tactics that builds bond with customers. Of course, our brains are definitely likely to be more engaged with storytelling than with simple fact presentation. Here is a simple storytelling guide from FORBES. Stay tuned for more information!

“I am a Small Business, Why do I Need Instagram? | LEVERAGING INSTAGRAM for Small Business
“I am a Small Business, Why do I Need Instagram?
Traditional marketing tactics, as we know them, are becoming less practical to simply because they aren’t cost effective. They still hold value but are way too overpriced. In the present day, with Social Media, marketing can be 10x more effective for a fraction of the cost. One of the simplest ways to grow your business is utilizing Instagram. The only investment you’ll be making is your time.
A few tactics you can use:
Hashtags You can use up to 30 hashtags on every posts. Hashtags are a simple but easy method you can use to target people from your city, interest, trends, and etc. Create a few groups of 5 hashtags and alternate them see which one works the best. RESEARCH the top hashtags in your niche to help you boost your engagement.
Geo-Location You can use nearby LANDMARKS to mark where the picture was posted. When people are TRAVELING or interesting in visiting a certain area, they can see your picture if they search that geo-tag on Instagram. This increases the chances of them running into your business. Alternate using different Geo-locations and see which one works best for you.
Host Contest Giving away stuff always bring more followers, which in turn means more leads. Use tactics like ‘tag 5 friend’ or ‘repost’ to increase brand awareness. People love FREE stuff. Example; Giving away a basic massage package/ Free sample of nutrition product/ or a free carwash might cost you under 50 buck…. but in return, will increase audience engagement and build credibility. You can use contests for increasing likes, driving people to the website, walking into your store (to claim gift)
Influencer Marketing Contact local influencer with a few thousand followers to come check out your place for free services or product in return they shout you out (paid and/or unpaid shout outs). MENTION these influential people and brands in your post for increased visibility. A single 24-hour shout out can double or triple traffic to your site and increase conversion rate.
Give valuable content on your industry Give FREE value. Simple as that. If you’re a tax business: give tips on how to save money in various tax brackets. Dentist office: give tips on how to keep your teeth clean. Personal Trainer: a healthy meal prep idea or a simple workout routine. This is the single most effective tool. If you have a resourceful page, people will follow….and more importantly, they will TRUST YOU!
Utilizing Instagram properly is a powerful method to increase Brand Awareness. Building a story and culture around your business will bring a lot of value. People will want to be associated with you and it will build credibility. People like to buy from people not companies and businesses. It allows you to be personal and the audience can relate. A good rule of thumb is, 80% content 20% sales. You don’t want to keep flooding followers with products to buy buy buy. Instead, you want them to buy on their own. Study the branding and marketing tactics of the biggest companies in your niche and create similar content. If you don’t have an Instagram page for your business, you are missing out on one of the easiest tools to help you tell your story and build your business. Do it now, and make your brand stand out!
Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. Good luck!
