Tonight was frigid, your windows were frozen over from the frost and rain that had poured down earlier in the day. Shivering, you shuffle to the heater and flick the dial up a few more notches, wrapping your blanket around you tighter before flopping back onto your nest of a bed.

As soon as the thump of your body against the mattress is made, you hear a hard knocking against your window. With a startle, you slowly peek over your shoudler to see what that noise could’ve been caused by. Before you can even begin to crawl out of bed to search for a weapon, another knock is made, again and again, like an animal begging to come inside.

You back away, flinching as the knocks become more erratic. With a tug of your blanket, you tighten it around you and raise your voice to the possible animal or intruder. “GET OUT! GET OUT OF HERE!” You demand, raising the heavy flashlight you kept beside your bed. It had zero batteries but it was a nice blunt object, so it wasn’t completely useless.

A click is made as the window is forced open, causing you to shout and toss the flashlight, missing the target completely as the figure crawled in. It had slow, deliberate movements, slinking inside your room like a demon ready to steal your soul.

It was fuzzy, with eyes as large as saucers, it’s height reaching the ceiling as it towered over your cowering form. The nightmare figure only continued to show its power as large wings sprouted from its back, knocking your bedside table over as they flap and buzz in what seems like a dominant display.

You’re petrified, breath caught in your chest as the beast stalks closer and let’s it’s antennae feel over you and the blanket wrapped over you. The cold wind blowing in doesnt even register to you, only the thought that you were definitely about to die or be horribly disfigured.

Tears roll down your cheeks as your eyes slam shut, feeling the breath of the monster against your skin as it’s feelers continue to inspect you. You expect a bite to your throat, maybe a slash of claws, but instead you feel it’s arms pull at your blanket and drop it to the ground. While shivering, you look around for another weapon, anything to scare the thing off and get it away from you, but to no avail.

The moth-beast (mothman? No way! Right? He can’t be real!...right ?!) Notices your cold body, and without hesitation, it pulls you into it’s oddly warm and fuzzy body. A struggle is made after a few seconds of confusion, but it simply holds you in place, much stronger than you and deadest on having you in its embrace.

A soft trill left its mouth, pressing your back into your bed a bit forcefully as it hovers over you and burrows your body deeper into its embrace. “N-no no let me up! Let me go! “ you fight again, only to wear yourself out as the monster stays still and seemingly begins to admire you with its large, red glowing eyes.

You were very interesting. You smelled nice and felt very warm. So soft and small, so cute and amusing. Leaving definitely wasn’t an option now. At first it was the warmth of the heater you had, but now that you’ve shown even more interesting and admirable traits, this might just be a new home.

Plus you had such a nice nest made! The blankets were so soft and smelled so nice, and you looked cozy in it before he came in. Speaking of the window incident, you clearly wanted him in! It all makes sense, you were looking for a mate!

The warmth, the easy to open entrance, the smells, the nest- you were ready to have a mate and he found you! This is great! He’ll gladly accept, but you have to be more careful about who you’re trying to woo and coax into your den.

Imagine if the other monsters got here before he did! You could’ve been hurt and in danger! Not to worry, you have a mate now, and he’ll make sure you never leave the nest and never have any harm coming your way.

pine trees and witchcraft

as winter months (and yule festivities) approach, pine becomes an excellent component of green witchcraft. evergreen trees, of course, symbolize immortality and perseverance. they are a great addition to any spell involving resilience or overcoming obstacles.

hanging a pine branch above your door will invite good energies, be it spirits or friends, into your space. placing pine above your bed will ward off illness.

throw pine into the fireplace (or bonfire) to summon protective energy.

pinecones work as a health and fertility charm.

pine is also an excellent smoke cleanser for purifying and warming a space’s energy.

pine trees in general are associated with divine harmony, peace, releasing guilt, and clarity. for this reason, meditation under a pine tree (or with a pine sprig in your hand) can be very healing and beneficial spiritually.

whether you have a pine tree in your home this season, you take a walk among some evergreens, or even just light a pine-scented candle in your bedroom, its wintery magick is wonderful.

SMALL WITCHY THINGS YOU CAN DO AROUND THE HOUSE

Put a small ward on the door and windows 

Visualize the energy you are getting when eating food or ingesting caffeine

Put a glamour on your make-up and brush

Put a glamour on your closet for the clothes inside

Put a small bowl/plate with rose quartz, amethyst, and quartz crystal on your sink counter

Make every shower a “cleansing” for yourself and every bath a gentle recharging

Hang a sigil somewhere in your kitchen to ensure delicious food

Spend a few minutes talking to your plants

Meditate for at least 5 minutes a day

If you do sage cleansings, mix the leftover ashes and sea salt together in a container to keep for if you need a quick protection

Charm your necklace for protection and recharge it once a week

Charm your shoes to ensure that you will make it to where you are going

I’m suing the U.S. government for causing the climate change crisis, and I'm 22.

My name is Kelsey Juliana and I’m suing the United States government for causing and accelerating the climate change crisis. I’m 22 years old and I’ve been a climate activist for more than half of my life.

I know that young people like me, and others who have yet to be born, have a right to a safe climate system. The constitution guarantees all Americans the right to life, liberty, and property. But how is anyone supposed to live a life of freedom amid a climate crisis? My own government is violating my constitutional rights by its ongoing and deliberate actions that cause climate change and it’s not right.

I, along with 20 other young people from around the country, filed a lawsuit against the federal government in 2015, called Juliana v. United States.

We’re not asking for money. Instead, we’re asking the court to order the government to develop and implement a National Climate Recovery Plan based on the best available science.

This plan should end the reign of fossil fuels and quickly decarbonize our atmosphere so that we can stabilize our climate system before it’s too late.

The longer we go without climate recovery, the more we risk allowing our climate to spiral completely out of control.

And the climate is spiraling out of control, no matter how many politicians claim we’re experiencing normal fluctuations or, worse, a “hoax.” All of the expert witnesses in our lawsuit say that we are currently—already—in the “danger zone” and an “emergency situation” with only 1°C of planetary heating. Allowing the planet to heat up any more is not safe for our species, as well as so many others. And according to the Trump administration’s most recent environmental impact statement, the planet could heat as much as 7°F before the end of this century. We cannot allow this to happen because we simply will not survive.

We originally filed our lawsuit against the Obama administration. That administration tried to have the case dismissed, but the judge ruled in our favor and found that we should be allowed to go to trial.

In 2017, the Trump administration inherited the lawsuit and it has done everything in its power, employing every conceivable tactic, to deny my fellow plaintiffs and me our right to present our case in court. This administration is so fiercely attempting to silence our voices.

At this point, every level of the federal judiciary—the U.S. District Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court—has denied the Trump administration’s efforts to have the case thrown out. Yet it will not halt its efforts to avoid standard legal procedures and confront us, the nation’s youth, in court.

Our trial is officially scheduled to begin on October 29, 2018 in Eugene, Oregon.

What we’re asking for could change everything.

My fellow plaintiffs and I want you with us as we head into the courtroom to confront the United States government for knowingly violating our constitutional rights. Supporters will hold rallies in every state around the country, so if you can’t be with us in Eugene, find your local rally here.
