7, 27, 31?? - @darl-ingfics <3
Thanks for the asks!!! 💕
7 - which song/group introduced you to kpop?
BTS introduced me to k-pop in 2021 with Blood, Sweat and Tears and DNA!! I still love those songs so much, I get why they drew me in back then.
27 - your favorite vocalists?
Though, there a lot of amazing k-pop vocalists my favourite would have to be Jongho. I have never seen skill like him before and he somehow has all my favourite traits in multiple different vocalists.
31 - if you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
This is sooooo fucking hard but I would have to pick Inception by Ateez. That song is literally magical.

your hongjoong fic was so good and accurate 😭😭hongjoong is totally that type of person to pretend he’s not sick. but also he’d definitely be super caring if it was another member that was sick, like for example that time he said bless you to mingi and he said it with so much care😔❤️.(referring to the video from the amsterdam concert!) but i’m sure if a member told him bless you he’d be all shy or something. he’s so silly and cute
Awwww, thank you 😭🫶🏻! I'm so glad everything was accurate because this is my first Ateez fic so I'm glad it was!!! Thank you for enjoying it!!! And IK!! Hongjoong himself would never admit that he's sick but will always be the first person to take care of another member who's sick 😭. He's soooo 😭😭😭, I just love him 😭💕.

Heyyyy! First off, thank you so much for your request! It was just what I needed to get me started on writing after my exams! I loved writing this!! Also, I love that my first fic after my "hiatus" is an Ateez fic because I LOVE them! I hope you enjoyyyy!
Your refusal to be weak is likely what keeps you weak
“Members, gather up! Let me brief y'all on your newest Wanteez episode!” Ateez's PD called out to them.
After about 15 minutes of getting briefed on the theme for the next few episodes, it was clear to the members that this episode was going to be one of the funnest they've ever had. It was basically a time for the members to go on a vacation together and spend some quality time with each other. Not to mention, it'll be a break from their busy schedules recently. The only thing that'll make the whole trip feel like work would be the cameras but since all of them were super close to the Wanteez team, it'll be fun nonetheless.
When the day for their departure finally rolled around, all the members were equally excited for it despite the freezing January weather. The members were jumping out of bed at record speed, not wanting to waste even a second. Well, all of them except Hongjoong.
Truth be told, Hongjoong had started feeling a little off the day before their trip. He had brushed it off, deciding that it was because he hadn't been dressing warmly enough. But the exhaustion he felt when he climbed into bed that night along with the slight ache at the back of his throat couldn't be explained by just that. But Hongjoong would be damned if he admitted what all those signs could mean.
When Hongjoong woke up the next day, he immediately noticed how much worse he felt. His head felt like it was stuffed with cotton, making it difficult to keep his eyes open and difficult to hear anything clearly. His throat had actually started hurting now unlike the slight ache he felt the night before. And above all, he was met with an almost burning sensation in his sinuses. Groaning softly, he got out of bed and stepped outside his room.
As soon as he entered the living of his dorm, he was met with chaos. Jongho had a small suitcase in the middle of the room where he was currently shoving all his clothing and other essentials haphazardly. Due to where it was, the suitcase kept making Wooyoung trip over it as he tried to make breakfast for all of them. Hongjoong sighed softly but then he smiled at them fondly, despite how tired he felt. “Hongjoong-hyung!” Wooyoung called, after finally having noticed Hongjoong standing at the doorway. “You're up! You should get ready because we have to meet our staff at, like, 10 am sharp. And after you're done packing, we can eat breakfast together.” Wooyoung said happily and even though Hongjoong wasn't really all that hungry at the moment, how could he deny him? So Hongjoong just nodded and gave Wooyoung a soft smile before trudging towards the bathroom. As soon as he turned on the bathroom lights, however, the brightness made the burning sensation in his sinuses increase tenfold and his breath caught in his throat, eyes fluttering shut. “hh'EtChuHh!-” Hongjoong blinked in surprise after the sneeze before sniffling wetly. It seemed like the sudden sneeze had made his nose start to run like crazy, causing his breath to catch on more than one occasion while he tried to do his regular morning routine.
When he was finally done with everything, Hongjoong went back to his room to collect his luggage. It's a good thing that he had packed it in advance. Maybe his past self had known that he really wouldn't be up to it in the morning. He then made his way back to the living room, luggage in hand. Jongho had finally managed to pack his luggage and his suitcase was currently on the sofa, making the room look much more clean. Seonghwa would be proud (and if he’s not, he should be). Wooyoung had already finished making breakfast and was currently piling food onto plates for Hongjoong and Jongho. “Okay, Joong-hyung and Hojung-ah, come and have your breakfast. We need to leave soon, anyway.” Both Hongjoong and Jongho took a seat at the table and as Hongjoong started eating, he, once again, thanked the heavens above that he got to share a dorm with Wooyoung because that meant he could taste the younger's amazing cooking whenever he wanted and for that he would always be grateful (okay, maybe a bit too dramatic for just kimchi fried rice but whatever). After finishing their meal, they all helped each other clean up, hauled their luggage out and locked the dorm. Hongjoong dialed up Seonghwa, wanting to make sure they were all leaving their respective dorms at around the same time. He confirmed that yes, Seonghwa, San and Mingi were currently leaving their dorm and no, Seonghwa (surprisingly) hadn’t packed his favourite lego set. Only after Wooyoung confirmed that Yunho and Yeosang were on their way too did the 3 of them leave for their designated meeting spot before the filming started.
When Hongjoong, Wooyoung and Jongho made it to their meeting spot, Yunho and Yeosang were the only ones there. As they stepped out of their car, Hongjoong immediately regretted not wearing something warmer. The chilly weather along with the ever-present wind made him start shivering almost immediately. Jongho, who had been standing next to him, seemed to have noticed because he turned to him. “Hyung, why didn't you wear a jacket? You're literally shivering! Here, take mine.” He said as he shrugged off his jacket. Hongjoong felt the tips of his ears start to heat up from embarrassment. “I'm fine, Jongho-ya, you don't need to do that.” But Jongho still placed his jacket on his hyung's shoulders regardless. “I don't get cold that easily, hyung. I'm serious! You need this jacket way more than me right now.” Hongjoong wanted to argue a bit more but he couldn't deny that the jacket felt good on his shoulders so he just mumbled a quiet thank you to Jongho, accepting the sweet gesture of his maknae.
Once Seonghwa, San and Mingi had also arrived, their PD ushered them into the bus that was going to take them to Taean. The members were all talking animatedly amongst themselves as they contemplated who they wanted to sit next to. Truth be told, Hongjoong would have preferred to just be alone because he knew he was actually getting sick at this point. But luck wasn't on his side and he was stuck seated next to Seonghwa at the very back of the bus. Don’t get him wrong, Hongjoong usually loved Seonghwa's company but at the moment, he wanted to hide the fact that he was catching a cold from him and he knew Seonghwa would probably figure him out immediately. But since he couldn't do anything about it, Hongjoong just closed his eyes and let out a sigh. He would deal with all of his problems later, right now he needed to rest. He felt Seonghwa wrap an arm around him, making Hongjoong's head fall onto his shoulder. “You'll be more comfortable this way.” Seonghwa whispered to him. Hongjoong whispered a word of thanks to him and Seonghwa just patted his hair in response.
After about an hour of falling asleep against Seonghwa, Hongjoong was roused by the burning itch in his sinuses. He tried rubbing at his nose but that just made it so much worse. He looked over at Seonghwa who was fast asleep and let out a curse under his breath. Not wanting to wake the other, Hongjoong pinched his nose right when he felt his breath start to hitch. “hH’NGtT!-” Hongjoong managed to stifle the first sneeze but without any warning, his breath started to hitch again and he felt his eyes flutter shut. "hHt’NgTChieww!-” Hongjoong let out a sigh after the second sneeze, rubbing at his nose. Though he had managed to stay quiet, he hadn't been able to fully stifle the sneeze and he knew that Seonghwa had probably heard him. Still, Hongjoong had his hopes up until he felt Seonghwa hand him a tissue. “Bless you,” Seonghwa said, his voice deeper than usual due to sleepiness. “Thanks, Seonghwa-yah. You can go back to sleep. I'm sorry for waking you up.” Seonghwa shook his head at Hongjoong's words. “It’s fine, don't worry about it. Just don't stifle your sneezes like that, Joong-ah, you're gonna hurt yourself.” Hongjoong blushed a little at his words but nodded.
After softly rubbing his nose with the tissue, Hongjoong put his head on Seonghwa's shoulder again, willing himself to not sneeze again. Seonghwa had already fallen asleep again and soon enough, Hongjoong found himself drifting off as well. After what felt like barely a few minutes to him, he was being shaken awake by Yunho. “Joong-hyung, Hwa-hyung, wake up! We've reached Taean and PD-nim wants us inside the lodgings immediately.” Seonghwa ran a hand through his hair, yawning widely while Hongjoong let out a petulant whine. Yunho laughed at his hyungs before grabbing both of their hands and pulling them to their feet. “Hyung, come on~! We're gonna be late!” Both Hongjoong and Seonghwa grumbled under their breath but soon enough, they trudged out of the bus and into their lodgings behind the other members. When they were all inside their lodgings, their PDs briefed them about the filming process. The members had the rest of the day off to do whatever they wanted and they would start filming the next day. The members were also informed of their sleeping arrangements. To give off the proper MT vibe, the members were supposed to sleep on the floor with mattresses. All the members were mostly happy with this arrangement as it reminded them of their trainee days. Hongjoong, on the other hand, was dreading the experience. Sleeping next to the members while fighting an oncoming cold did not seem ideal in the slightest. But since he couldn't speak up without sounding unprofessional, he stayed silent. Meanwhile, the other members found it impossible to stay silent. After a long, drawn-out discussion or “battle” as Wooyoung called it, they finally decided on their respective spots on the floor. Hongjoong, who just wanted to get some goddamn sleep, settled on his mattress as soon as the others’ “battle” was over. He should have known, however, that there was never a peaceful moment when you're with Ateez.
“Whatcha doing, hyung? Mingi asked, taking a seat next to Hongjoong. Not having the heart to ignore the younger, Hongjoong just shrugged. “Nothing much, Mingi-yah. I'm just a bit tired.” Wooyoung, who had been trying to get Yeosang to cuddle with him, commented, “Well, that's what happens when you refuse to keep a regular sleep schedule, hyung.” Hongjoong rolled his eyes and he was about to reply with his own snarky comment but his breath caught on an inhale. He quickly brought his hands up to his face, his chest rising and falling with desperate gasps. “hHt…HhT-! Hhht…hH'EtChieww!-” Hongjoong sniffled against the tickle which immediately caused it to peak again. “hhT…hHt'ETChuhH!-” “Wow, bless you!” Mingi said, surprised. Hongjoong felt his face grow hot with all the attention. “Thanks, Mingi-yah.” He whispered quietly. “Hyung, you okay?” Yunho asked from across the room. “Yeah, I'm fine, Yunho-yah.” Hongjoong said quickly, almost reflexively. He could feel Seonghwa's eyes on him from across the room as well but he decided to deal with that problem later.
The tickle in his sinuses seemed to have stopped after the 2 sneezes but Hongjoong knew well enough that it was just the calm before the storm. Not wanting to sneeze in front of the members and worry them more, Hongjoong stood up and wandered off in the vague direction of their lodgings’ kitchen. Even though he didn't particularly feel like eating, some tea might actually help get rid of his cold. But before Hongjoong could discreetly leave the kitchen, tea in hand, he was stopped by Seonghwa. So much for wanting to avoid trouble, Hongjoong thought bitterly.
Seonghwa glared at Hongjoong, the captain shrinking a little under his friend's sharp gaze. Not to mention the irritating urge to sneeze was coming back to him. (Not now, damnit!) Soon enough, his breath started to hitch and he brought his wrist up to his nose and mouth, his head snapping to the side. “hH'EtCHieww!-” “Bless you,” Seonghwa's tone was dry but there was still a hint of worry behind his words. “And bless you again.” Hongjoong made a confused sound at the back of his throat but then had to immediately turn away again as he snapped forward with another forceful, “hHt'EtCHuHh!-” Hongjoong sniffled wetly as he turned back to Seonghwa. “How’d you know I was gonna sneeze again?" Hongjoong asked, trying to keep his tone casual. Seonghwa heaved a huge sigh, taking out a travel pack of tissues and handing it to him. “Because I know you, Joong-ah.” He then heaved another huge sigh and Hongjoong closed his eyes, waiting for the inevitable. “You're sick, aren't you?” Seonghwa asked and though it was a question, he didn't sound like it was. “I-” “Kim Hongjoong, I swear, if you pull any of that “but I'm the captain, I need to be strong” shit, I will personally end you. You're allowed to be weak sometimes. Besides, your refusal to be weak is likely what keeps you weak.” Hongjoong sighed after Seonghwa's little monologue, exhaustion suddenly taking over his bones. Seonghwa's right, of course he is. But it's not like Hongjoong's going to admit that so easily. “We're supposed to be professional, Hwa-yah.” Hongjoong decided to say instead and Seonghwa rolled his eyes. “It’s just us, Joong-ah! You can let your guards down in front of us!” Hongjoong just shook his head, feeling a horrifying burning sensation in his eyes. “I'll be alright, Seonghwa. Don’t worry about me.” Hongjoong finally managed to push past the other, leaving Seonghwa standing in the kitchen alone. He drank his tea in hopes of getting better soon but while trying to dispose of the cup, he got ambushed by San this time.
“Hyung, you're drinking tea? You only ever do that when you're sick. Are you okay?” Hongjoong pushed the urge to groan down as he said, “I'm fine, San-ah.” "You really don’t look fine, though.” San said, taking in his hyung's teary eyes, bright red nose and almost feverishly pink cheeks. “I’m fine, San-ah! Could you drop it?!” Hongjoong snapped, getting tired of all the questioning. San’s eyes grew wide and Hongjoong immediately regretted snapping at him. “Wait, San-ah, I didn’t mean to snap at you like that. I’m sorry! I just- hHt’ETChieww!-” Hongjoong blinked, the sneeze having caught him completely by surprise. “Bless you, hyung! And it’s fine, hyung. You don’t need to apologize, really.” San said and Hongjoong felt even more bad for snapping at him. But before he could say anything else, his breath caught on an inhale and he could barely pull the collar of his shirt to his nose and mouth before he gasped softly. “hH’EtChuHh!- hHT!- hHh…hHt’ETChiihH!-” Hongjoong sniffled harshly as he took a few tissues from the travel pack Seonghwa had given him and blew his nose softly. “Woah! Bless you, hyung!” San said, surprise evident in his tone. “How long are you going to keep pretending to be okay, hyung? You do know we can see right through you, right? You can let yourself be weak around us.” Wooyoung said as he took the forgotten cup from Hongjoong’s hands before running a hand through his hyung’s hair. “Exactly! You don’t need to be the strong “captain” around us all the time! You can lean on us just as much as we can lean on you.” Yunho said earnestly and the others all nodded at his words. Now, Hongjoong didn’t know if it’s because of his sick state or his dongsaengs’ sweet words but he felt the tears he’d tried so desperately to hold back pouring out of him. And of course, Wooyoung didn't hesitate before pulling him into a hug, gently kissing his cheek. They stood like that for who knows how long, Wooyoung rubbing circles on his back as Hongjoong buried his face in his neck. “Hyung…” Wooyoung whispered softly into his hair, his tone sad. He hated seeing his members cry. “I’m alright, really, Young-ah. I just…I love you guys so much.” Hongjoong said, blushing furiously, the last part of his sentence coming out as a whisper. Wooyoung cooed and hugged his captain tighter, making Hongjoong smile warmly.
When Hongjoong finally stopped crying and Wooyoung pulled out of the hug, Seonghwa appeared out of nowhere, pulling him into a short hug as well. “So, will the Kim Hongjoong finally admit weakness?” He asked, his tone snarky and Hongjoong gave his fellow ‘98 liner a small smile. “I guess you could say that.”
(And Hongjoong swore he could hear all of the members letting out a collective cheer at his words.)

OMGGG, I just discovered this blog through this fic right here and I'm SO glad I did?! This was amazing, oml!!! I loved itttt 😭🫶🏻!!
Feveruary Day 3: "Caught in the Rain"
Sickie: Wooyoung
Caretaker: Seonghwa
Word Count: 1700
A/N: This was actually the first story I wrote, and it was originally meant to be for the Sicktember prompt "Train Ride," So I guess you can consider this a double prompt but from two different events 😅. Biggest shout out to @darl-ingfics for reading part of this and encouraging me to keep writing. She's a huge reason I even had the courage to make this account at all. Please go check out her stuff, it's so good.
--------------
Seonghwa gazes out the fogged train window, idly watching damp blurs of grey zip past his vision. Heavy rain patters against the glass in a steady rhythm, and it doesn’t seem to be letting up any time soon.  It’s early– too early to be awake. Apparently nobody else got the memo, as the train is at full capacity, filled to the brim with damp, downcast civilians on their way to their early morning shifts. Seonghwa is lucky he was able to find them a seat before the city crowd filed in. What a miserable day for a train ride. And speaking of miserable…
Wooyoung, who’s been sulking against his shoulder for the last ten minutes, coughs wetly into his hoodie sleeve before swiping it once under his nose. He whines, a tiny, nasally, pitiful little sound that makes Seonghwa’s heart clench. He peels his eyes away from the rain-washed landscape to focus on him, giving his shoulder a light squeeze in a show of sympathy.
“We’ll be there soon, Young-ah. Hang in there.”
Wooyoung snuffles into Seonghwa’s shoulder and groans. “Didn’ wanna go in the first place,” he grumbles before burying his face into the fabric of Seonghwa’s sweater to muffle another wet cough there. His breath hitches, and he stifles a congested sounding sneeze into the same spot.
Seonghwa grimaces and resists the urge to squirm away from Wooyoung’s shameless spreading of germs. He would probably scold him if he didn’t currently look and sound so pathetic. Above all, he just feels sorry for him.
Seonghwa sighs and pulls Wooyoung a bit closer, running a hand up and down his arm when he shivers.
“I know, Jagiya, but you’ve had a fever for two days, and your cough isn’t getting any better.”
Wooyoung huffs and sticks his lip out in a pout. “Such a mean hyung, makin’ me go to the doctor. Meanest hyung.”
Seonghwa chuckles, amused. At least Wooyoung feels up to being a brat. “I thought you said Hongjoong was the meanest hyung yesterday when he made you take that cough syrup,” he says, brushing his long fingers through Wooyoung’s hair.
Wooyoung somehow finds a way to pout harder. “You’re both conspiring against me. Only Sannie cares about me.”
Seonghwa snorts, both incredulous and fond. “Why, because he snuck you the ice cream that I bought you, with my money?”
Apparently Wooyoung doesn’t feel like coming up with a comeback to that, so he just reburies his too-warm face in Seonghwa’s shoulder, sniffling wetly. Seonghwa scrunches his nose up at the sound.
“We really should have put a mask on you,” he says, listening to Wooyoung’s congested breathing right in his ear. He has no doubt he’ll be down with the same cold himself within the next few days. San too, probably.
Wooyoung is clingy on a good day, and it’s only amplified when he’s not feeling well. Seonghwa had tried to avoid it as much as he could, but he’s always been weak to Wooyoung’s puppy eyes. Throw some feeble shivers and a sniffle in, and Seonghwa had quickly lost the battle.
Still, he’s been careful the last few days while taking care of Wooyoung- remembering to wash his hands after every interaction, taking extra vitamins, drinking extra water. He has some sense of self preservation, unlike San, who’d been attached to Wooyoung’s side since the first sign of illness. It’s sweet, but will definitely cause more trouble later when San inevitably goes down too. Seonghwa can only pray his own immune system will hold out long enough to deal with them both when it happens. Wooyoung always needs extra attention when he’s sick, and San has trouble acknowledging when he needs to just stay still and let his body rest. They’re a handful when they’re both unwell at the same time.
He pities Hongjoong, who will have to deal with all three of them if his immune system decides to betray him.
“Hyung?” A soft voice pulls him from his musings.
“Hm?” He peers down to see Wooyoung looking up at him, eyes red-rimmed and heavy with exhaustion.
“Thank you, for taking me. You’re not actually the worst hyung. I know I’ve been a bit much.” He turns his eyes to his feet and coughs into his elbow, looking sheepish and so, so tired. Seonghwa’s heart aches for him.
Wooyoung always gets a bit emotional when he’s sick.
“Baby, you’re never too much.” He pulls him closer, wrapping both arms around him. “You’re not feeling good. You’ve been sick for days. You’re allowed to complain,” he guides Wooyoung’s head back to the crook of his neck and rests his cheek on his hair, “and you’re allowed to hate the taste of cough syrup. I would call Joongie mean too if he made me take it.” He pauses to bring a hand up to Wooyoung’s neck and give it a brief squeeze. Still so warm. “Actually, I’d probably call him something way worse.”
Wooyoung laughs, but it’s watery, the sound choked and trembling as it tumbles from his lips. Seonghwa immediately pulls back to cup Wooyoung’s cheeks in both hands, gasping softly at the hot tears welling up in his eyes and trickling onto his fingers.
“Oh Wooyoungie.” He pulls him right back in against his chest, rocking gently side to side as the frustration and exhaustion and persistent fever of the last few days finally catch up to him.
“I-I’m sorry.” He coughs, hard. Seonghwa pats his back in a weak attempt to loosen up some of the congestion. “I don’t know why- why I’m crying,” he gets out between ragged, gasping breaths. The sobbing definitely isn’t doing his cold any favors.
“It’s okay,” Seonghwa whispers into his hair. “You’re sick and tired. You can cry. I’m right here.”
Seonghwa’s soothing only makes Wooyoung cry harder. A few other train-goers glance up at the commotion, and Seonghwa can’t be bothered to acknowledge them while he continues cradling Wooyoung’s head to his chest.
Seonghwa hates this. He hates that Wooyoung has been feeling awful for days, and he hates that he had to drag him onto a cold, dirty train in the middle of a downpour to go to urgent care. He would much rather have him home, in his own bed, medicated and bundled in blankets with Yunho’s humidifier running. But his congestion had moved from his head into his chest, and there’s a horrible rattling sound that comes with every cough, and his fever has been up and down for two days, falling just to rise higher when the medicine wears off. Seonghwa is convinced this isn’t just a cold anymore. He knows the doctor’s visit is necessary.
That doesn’t mean he has to like it.
Seonghwa is startled when he feels a featherlight tap on his wrist. He peers up to see a sympathetic looking older woman sitting in the seat across from them, holding out a travel pack of tissues. She doesn’t say anything, but her eyes are soft– knowing, almost. Seonghwa wonders if she has kids. He mouths a very sincere thank you, bobbing his head in a grateful bow. She smiles at him before turning back to her phone.
Meanwhile, Wooyoung’s tears have slowed, but have left him a sniffling mess. He pulls the collar of his coat over his nose and sneezes four times, far too tired to stifle them like he usually does. They're still quiet though, muted by heavy congestion.
Seonghwa rips open the pack and plucks a few tissues out before pressing them into Wooyoung’s hand. While Wooyoung attempts to clean himself up, he pulls out a few more and tenderly dabs the tears from Wooyoung’s cheeks.
“Ugh, gross,” Wooyoung rasps, words catching on the phlegm in his throat and throwing him into a brief coughing jag. Seonghwa hands him another tissue so he can hack out the obstruction in his lungs.
“Do you feel a bit better after crying?” Seonghwa asks, reluctantly taking the soiled tissues from Wooyoung’s hands and shoving them into his coat pocket to be thrown out later.
Wooyoung shrugs and plops his head back onto Seonghwa’s shoulder. “I don’t know. Yes and no, I guess.” He sniffles. “I’ll feel better when we’re home.”
Seonghwa sighs and presses a delicate kiss to Wooyoung’s forehead. “Me too, Young-ah. Me too.”
——
The trek from the train station to the urgent care building feels much longer than it should, Seonghwa’s umbrella rendered virtually useless by the onslaught of wind throwing the rain sideways against their faces. Seonghwa does his best to block Wooyoung from the worst of it, but both of them are thoroughly waterlogged by the time they finally trudge through the doors and check in.
Wooyoung goes through the whole visit in a haze, Seonghwa doing most of the talking in his stead. After he’s given an unsurprising flu diagnosis, they’re sent on their way with a prescription script and well wishes.
The ride home is much more uneventful than the ride to the urgent care. Wooyoung has long since knocked out against Seonghwa’s shoulder, completely spent from the whole ordeal. He still shivers in his sleep, and Seonghwa’s lips pull down in a frown at every little quake.
He knows Wooyoung needs the rest, but a selfish part of him wishes Wooyoung was awake, just so he could distract him from his own anxious thoughts.
It feels like either minutes or years later when they finally stumble through their apartment door. Seonghwa gets a very winded Wooyoung sitting down on the shoe bench so he can remove his wet shoes and socks.
Seonghwa holds back a groan when he hears footsteps rushing towards them from the hall. He’s really passed his limit with talking to people today.
He looks up and sees Yeosang running up to him with an urgency that immediately has him tamping down his frustration.
“Hyung, finally you’re home. There’s-” Yeosang pauses, looking them up and down. “You’re both soaked.”
Seonghwa pinches the bridge of his nose. “What is it, Yeosang?”
“Oh, sorry. Um, there’s a bit of a problem. Sannie-“ a high pitched sneeze rings out from the living room like a dark omen. “He’s running a fever.”

response to the another anon and for everyone🩷hongjoong just has harsh sneezes, i assume due to his sinus issue. and he said on a recent live that he has sinusitis and his body is sensitive to weather changes! so this explains the sniffling, touching his nose, and the sound of his sneezes. and be probably doesnt like sneezing around others or on camera bc sinusitis causes sneezing to be louder and harsher (for some people, so probably him too) hopefully this helps and gives new insight for all the hongjoong sneeze lovers 😙.

^ here’s the translation for him talking about having it
OMGGG thank you for the clarification!! And that makes a lot of sense!! I think I've seen that clip before on Twitter and it just puts everything into perspective. Also, I totally did not know that sinusitis makes sneezes sound harsher and louder than normal!! That's probably why he doesn't like sneezing on camera, omggg you're sooo right! And yeah, that explains all the sniffling and touching his nose as well!! Thanks for the explanation, omgg!! The sinusitis info is actually giving me new inspiration, oohhhhhh 👀😭

hmm about the sniffling i think he said he had sinusitis so im guessing it comes with it, poor joong has to deal with his cough whenever he gets sick and that. i have a friend thats also like that so i get him sorta. but she also has allergies so there isnt a day that i see her that she doesn’t sneeze at least twice. i dont think hongjoong is like that because if he was, we’d probably have had many more sneezes captured of him
although i personally get a mental block when i need to sneeze in public like id feel it and immediately somehow vaccum it back in. in that matz live it kinda looks like that, so maybe he can tame it and only sometimes he doesn’t overthink it or just fails to hold it in
Ohh yeahhhhh, I think I saw a live of him saying that he has sinusitis!! And yeah, Hongjoong usually always gets pretty bad coughs whenever he's sick, at least from what I've seen. I don't think he has allergies to regular stuff, though, like pollen and flowers, because, like you said, he would be sneezing a lot more if he did have allergies. And I get ya! Maybe he's one of the people who really does not like sneezing in public, so I'm glad that he's comfortable enough (sometimes) to actually let himself sneeze on camera.

a little late to the convo but am i genuinely the only one who doesn’t believe hongjoong sneezed in those videos? idk something about the sound is throwing me off, sounds like a cough but he is doing kinda the sneeze motion although very subtle..? idk maybe it’s just me but yeah
although when he does cough its a different sound so maybe those are sneezes and i just have speculations.
also he does touch his nose a lot recently, almost every time i see a recent video of him he is touching it or sniffles, the sniffles tend to be a habit of his but this recent nose touching makes me think his nose is actually running now, whos with me on this take?
oh and you can talk as much as youd like on your takes like the other one you did, i think anybody that is a snz enthusiast loves it when people talk all about it and can talk about the topic for hours right ? lol
Okie, so I re-analysed all the Hongjoong sneeze clips that we have as of now, and I can confirm that YES, they are all sneezes!! I mean, I get where you're coming from, though. I personally don't find his sneezes that cough-like, but I get the confusion, honestly.
For your next point, OMGGGG I'm so glad someone pointed this out?! Like, these days literally ANY live he does, he's almost always sniffling or touching his nose!! I'm pretty sure it's due to the cold weather and frequent travelling that they're doing...BUT Yeosang did say on a live that he recently caught a cold AND we also know that colds travel really fast in groups, especially groups like Ateez, who are sooo fucking close to each other and love to spend time together. So......we can connect the dots here 😭. Though, I do still think the constant sniffling is because of the cold weather, but he also might catch a cold, idkkkk 😭😭?

Feveruary Day 27: ALT Prompt - Cool Compress
Fandom: ATEEZ
Sickie: Jongho (tonsilitis)
Caregiver(s): ATEEZ
Word Count: 1,803
Notes: Prequel to Day 3 "Caught in the Rain" AND Day 13 “I wouldn’t even trust you to boil tea in your condition!”
Jongho walked through the door, a look of mild disappointment on his face. “Who broke this?” He held up their personal steamer, broken into two pieces. Mingi’s face went white. Jongho pointed at him. “This is why we can’t have nice things.”
As Yunho and Wooyoung began clowning on Mingi, Seonghwa frowned. “Is your throat bothering you?”
Jongho shrugged, shaking his hand a bit. “A little. Feels like overuse, though, not like I’m getting sick or anything.” He was keenly aware of both of the eldest member’s eyes watching him as he rubbed at his throat, frowning rather than wincing. That was a good sign. “Nothing to worry about.” Seonghwa nodded, seemingly satisfied as he turned back to his dinner. “This however…” He held up the broken steamer again. “Is something to worry about. Mingi-hyung, how the fuck did you even break this?!”
“I don’t know, okay?” Mingi exclaimed, still evading Yunho and Wooyoung’s teasing. “Last time I tried to use it, it just… snapped?”
“You are a hazard to society,” Yeosang commented quietly. Mingi whined, head collapsing against the table as Yunho, Wooyoung, and now San oooOOOOOoooo’ed at him.
“Here, Jongho, I’ll boil some water and we’ll make our own steamer.” Mingi shot up from the table, moving into the kitchen.
“You don’t have to do that.” Jongho shook his head.
“It’s the least I can do to right my wrong.”
Jongho shook his head, unable to hide a smile as he sat down at the table next to Hongjoong. The captain smiled, ruffling the younger man’s hair.
“You sure you’re good?” he whispered, employing the correct amount of captain-ly concern that Jongho didn’t feel like he was being babied. He hated being babied. This was just a friend making sure his other friend was 100% good.
Jongho nodded. “Absolutely nothing to worry about.”
It was, of course, something to worry about. The first thing Jongho felt when his alarm dragged him into consciousness was an unnatural lump in his throat. He swallowed, immediately flinching from a sharp pain in his throat. He was instantly awake, rubbing at his neck as he sat up. He swallowed again as a test - still incredibly painful. He grabbed the water bottle on his nightstand and tried that. Just as bad.
Jongho took a deep breath, squashing his initial panic. With a second breath, he took stock of the rest of his body. He had a slight headache, but nothing some water and an aspirin couldn’t fix. His neck was sore, but that happened to him at least once a week from sleeping on it funny. He didn’t feel feverish or chilled or achy or anything. No nausea, no congestion.
Just his throat. The slight tenderness he’d felt the night before had transformed into an acute pain, constant but worse when he swallowed. Jongho hummed, counted out a “one, two, three,” testing his voice. The sound was scratchy to his ears, the action somewhat painful.
But he had no other symptoms so… maybe it really was just overuse. Maybe his vocal cords needed a rest, and decided to go on strike today. No matter what, Choi Jongho was not about to let a sore throat slow him down. He was built different.
Besides, today was just dance practice. Jongho didn’t have to sing, or even talk all that much. With the help of water, tea, cough drops, and ibuprofen, he could survive today.
But with each dance run through, each breath ripping from his sore throat, the pain became less and less bearable.
At lunch, Jongho found it intolerable to swallow, the first bite of chicken sticking unnaturally in his throat. So he settled for gulping down a few of the softer vegetables whole, and pushing the rest of his food around on this plate to avoid suspicion.
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur, all of Jongho’s energy focused on keeping his body vertical. If anyone had closely reviewed the footage from the day’s practice, they would’ve seen Jongho flagging half a step behind, his face pained and eyes unfocused. But he wasn’t off enough to get scolded in the moment.
As soon as they reached home, Jongho stumbled to the couch. As the rest of the members fought over the shower, the maknae fell into a dreamless sleep.
And he stayed asleep until dinnertime, when Yunho knelt next to the couch, shaking the younger man’s shoulder. “Wake up, Jongho-ya.” Jongho lifted his head, squinting against the light. The pattern of the throw pillow was pressed into his face, and his hair was sticking up on one side. Yunho chuckled, smoothing the maknae’s hair down. His smile faded when he watched Jongjo wince after swallowing. “What’s wrong, bud?”
Jongho rubbed at his throat. “I don’t feel good.” His voice was raspy and not just from sleep.
Yunho’s frown deepened as he pressed his hand to Jongho’s forehead. “You feel warm.” He moved his fingers to carefully probe the maknae’s throat, finding clearly swollen lymph nodes (evidenced even more by Jongho flinching at Yunho’s gentle touch.) Yunho clicked his tongue before opening his arms. “Come here, bud.”
Jongho fell gratefully against the dancer, allowing himself to be fully enveloped in Yunho’s arms. His head rested against the dancer’s chest, ear pressed right against his heart. Jongho squeezed his eyes shut, willing his body to just stop hurting…
“What’s going on?” A soft but worried voice floated above them.
“Baby bear’s not feeling good,” Yunho replied. Jongho felt his chest vibrate with each word, the movement soothing in a way he couldn’t fully describe.
“Symptoms?” Jongho had decided that voice, which was now decidedly closer, was Seonghwa. Because of course it was. He was glad it was.
“Sore throat, swollen glands, fever…”
“Could be a few things. Can someone go grab…?”
“On it.” A new voice (maybe San?) appeared. There was some movement around him, and suddenly Jongho felt Yunho shifting him so that the maknae’s face was visible. It was San who had brought the thermometer gun to Seonghwa, both of whom were looking at Jongho was such tenderness he wanted to cry.
Seonghwa held the thermometer to his forehead, and read the number when it beeped. San peeked at the number too as Seonghwa nodded to himself, slipping his phone from his pocket. He stepped away a bit when their manager picked up, requesting a doctor’s visit at their earliest convenience.
“Is everything okay in here?” The three members huddled by the couch looked up to find the rest of the group watching from the doorway. Hating the attention, Jongho dropped his head back into Yunho’s chest.
“Maknae’s sick,” San explained simply, rubbing Jongho’s back soothingly.
Hongjoong was by their side instantly. “What’s wrong?”
“Probably strep, Joong,” Seonghwa spoke up, pressing the phone to his shoulder, clearly on hold from the crease in his forehead. “Manager-nim passed me through to a tele-doctor. Figured it was better than nothing.”
Hongjoong frowned as he nodded in acknowledgment of Seonghwa’s words. He fumbled for his own phone from his pocket, then cradled the maknae’s face in one hand. “Can you open your mouth for me, baby bear?” Jongho nodded, moving his head just enough to face Hongjoong. He opened his mouth, just wide enough for Hongjoong to shine his phone’s flashlight inside. The leader squinted. “Yeah, I’m seeing lots of red, and white spots.”
“Isn’t your throat supposed to be red?” Mingi asked, aiming for a laugh.
“Yeah, dumbass, but not like that.” Hongjoong sighed, sitting back on his heels. He nudged Jongho’s cheek again. “I’m sorry, lovey. We’ll get you to a doctor soon.” Jongho nodded, feeling incredibly sick and helpless and somewhat humiliated.
“Here, sweetheart.” Wooyoung stretched over the back of the couch, shaking a bottle of ibuprofen. “This might help relieve the pain a bit.” Yunho maneuvered Jongho to sit back agains the couch, and the maknae held out his hand, where Wooyoung dropped two capsules, holding a bottle of water as well.
Jongho nodded his thanks before throwing back one of the pills. His eyes widened as the capsule got stuck in his throat and he lurched forward, gagging once before spitting the pill out in his hand. He coughed at the taste of the pill coating stuck to the back of his throat, eyes tearing up and spilling over at the pain of it all. A sob ripped free from Jongho as Yunho held his body from collapsing forward off the couch, Yeosang dabbing at his mouth with a paper towel, Wooyoung apologizing profusely in the background and San comforting him. It was incredibly overwhelming.
“Sannie, run to the store for some liquid Tylenol please,” Hongjoong directed gently, helping Yunho settle their maknae back against the couch.
“I’ll go too!” Wooyoung volunteered, eager to fix his prior mistake.
“It’s not your fault, Woo,” Yunho called over his shoulder.
In the silence, they heard Seonghwa exclaim, “He can’t even swallow a pill right now, sir,” into the phone. He paused during the reply. “Yes, there are white spots on his tonsils and his lymph nodes are swollen.” All eyes were now trained on Seonghwa, who was watching Jongho intensely. Suddenly, he moved the phone away from his face. “Jongho, love, is there anything else we need to know? Anything besides the sore throat and fever?”
Jongho took a breath. His hand rested against his abdomen. “My stomach hurts a bit. And my head.” Seonghwa nodded, repeating the symptoms to the doctor on the phone. He bit his lip, nodding as he listened to the other side of the line. Hongjoong squeezed Jongho’s hand, and Yunho had joined him on the couch, cuddling close against the younger man’s side.
“Okay. Thank you so much. Goodbye.” Seonghwa hung up the phone, hands immediately planting on his hips. “Doctor suspects strep, but we’ll need a test for that. Manager-nim’s working on getting you in as early as possible tomorrow, bud.” Jongho nodded, shrinking into himself slightly.
“I know this is a lot for you.” Yunho brushed a hand through Jongho’s hair. “To be vulnerable like this. To need us.” Jongho deflated against the dancer’s side. “But we got you, love. We got you.”
“I know,” Jongho croaked, still avoiding everyone’s eyes.
“Here.” All eyes turned to Yeosang as he reentered the room. No one had noticed him leave. He held up a damp washcloth. “Lay back and put this over your eyes. It’ll help with the fever and the overstimulation.”
“Sangie, you angel,” Mingi sighed as Yunho shifted on the couch so Jongho could lay with him. Once they were settled, Yeosang drape the cool compress over the maknae’s forehead, covering his eyes. Jongho sighed out a breathy ‘thank you’ that could have convinced the Earth to stop spinning.
