Interesting but under-rated thing in Vox Machina is how all the canon relationships within the party have different obstacles to getting together that are dealt with by them at different paces, but in each couple both partners are struggling with the relationship for the same reason. In each why they get together when they do is so reflective of who they are as people and the similarities between them that also make the relationship between them work.

Keyleth and Vax know the other's in love with them for ages and make out sometimes while still being in an odd liminal space of not really being together. For all they get seen as the sweet, wholesome ship in comparison to the others they are so messy, and I mean this as a compliment. They are both people who feel intensely and struggle to find a way to balance their personal desires with their responsibilities, and spend a long time failing to do so.

Vex and Percy meanwhile genuinely do not realise the other's in love with them, both of them admitting as much openly, despite how clear it is from and outside perspective. As soon as they do realise they get together within a matter of days, getting married and having a child within a year. There's so many self-worth issues between them, but they're also a bit hedonistic and will tightly hold onto the things and people they care about, so once their insecurities are proven wrong they have no reason to let anything hold them back.

Pike and Scanlan spend the whole campaign with this underlying possibility of romance that only manifests as something solid at the very end. Pike doesn't know what she feels, trying to work out her crush on Percy, and Scanlan's has very unhealthy ideas about relationships and women that he needs to work through before he can act on his feelings in an authentic way. Neither of them know what they are feeling well enough to be able to make a genuine attempt at a relationship until they're able to do it slowly and with time to reflect.

There was a post going round recently about needing to ask why your characters aren't already in a relationship. It focused mainly on just making sure there is a reason rather than putting too much weight on what the reason is, but I think that reason and the obstacle itself can be a such a good insight into the characters as individuals and their relationship with each other by making it believable but not so intense as to make a long-term relationship un-credible.

Is it just me or did our generation (those of is who are currently 20-30 ish) just not get the opportunity to be young in the 'standard' sense?

Like, everyone I talk to who's over 40 has all their wild stories about their teens and 20s, being young and dumb, and then I talk to my friends and coworkers and classmates, and we just... dont.

By this, I mean things like messing up someone’s organization because you think their distress isn’t serious and it’s funny to get a rise out of them. Or things like using a nickname someone has asked you not to use because you think it’s funny.

You’re not funny. It’s actually a really shitty thing to do. It’s not up to you to decide how valid or real someone’s distress is. If they tell you to stop, then stop.

Really though, like we've made our cities so uncomfortable even for housed people, just in an effort to hurt the homeless. Parks and beaches close at night so homeless can't sleep there. Loitering is illegal so homeless can't sleep there. No bench at the bus stop because someone might sleep on it. No overnight parking because someone might sleep in the car there.

These laws aren't even beneficial to housed populations of the city, and they purely exist out of a) hatred for the homeless and b) an attempt to make your city look "presentable" to tourists. And it just sucks all-around.
