How I started to love Sanzu Haruchiyo and why he is one of my favorite characters of Tokyo Revengers.
People in general would wonder “why would someone like a character who has barely appeared or had any relevance in the manga?” Well, here I will talk about my reasons to love him and how I got interested in him.
First of all, we should talk about his first appearance. In his debut in the Tenjiku arc he looks mysterious. He is wearing a black mask that only allows us to see his eyes, and one of his most prominent features; his eyelashes. We don’t know who he is, only that he is part of the Tokyo Manji Gang. Later on it is mentioned that he is the vice captain of the fifth division, which made me wonder why he was not introduced before, this fired up my interest in him.
Tumblr media
We can see that during the fight between ToMan and Tenjiku he does not act. He is just a bystander and he is still wearing his mask. I was wondering why he did not fight along with the other characters, like Mucho (the ex-captain of the fifth division). This also made me think about what his strength was.
We do not see him a lot. In fact, we only see him a couple of times and the plot focuses on other characters, which also made me want to see him more. But after a while, we can see that he has an impacting appearance in the Bonten arc, when he is shown doing drugs (which surprised me because he is the first and only character who is shown like this) and killing men who betrayed the criminal organization he was part of along with a main character; Mikey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We are also allowed to finally see him without his mask. He has two huge scars that look alike on the sides of his mouth, which is also shocking. One might think that he got them in a fight during his time in Toman, or maybe in a fight with other criminal organizations, since he is part of the mafia. For me, this part is really appealing since my favorite characters are always violent and mentally unstable. His scars were also attractive for me since it gave him a touch of madness whenever he smiled.
Tumblr media
He appears again, and this time pointing a gun to our MC! Obviously it shocked me again. He was just the kind of character that made me want to support, even if I barely knew a thing about him. He was just so mysterious and evil that ended up catching my attention once again.
Tumblr media
I also wondered how he knew Takemichi. It was obvious that they should have seen each other in the past, but why did Takemichi forget about him? Why did they never seem to be interacting with each other? Sanzu obviously confirms that he had seen him, and he did not have a good opinion on him, but again, we did not know why and it was starting to make me think about the reasons. My mind again was thinking about this character that barely appeared.
Tumblr media
What also caught my attention was that he seemed to respect Mikey, because he did not question him when he asked to be left alone with Takemichi. Sanzu just obeyed him. I started to wonder why they were together if we never saw them interacting either. From that moment I started to think that Sanzu was an important character for the development of the new path the manga was going to take.
Tumblr media
Then I saw how desperate he looked when he saw that Mikey jumped from the building. At first I thought that they only had a “boss-subordinate” relationship but when i saw his expression when he saw that Mikey was going to die made me think that they were closer than I expected. Again, my curiosity was growing, I needed to know everything about him.
Tumblr media
After that chapter, we have other characters taking part of the scene, until Wakui sensei at the end of chapter 205 says that we will be seeing a backstory of Mucho and Sanzu. At that point I was already a fan and I was really excited to see Sanzu and what kind of relationship he had with Mucho. At this point I suspected that, since almost all his appearances were important or shocking, Wakui sensei was going to show us something relevant. I have to say that chapter 206 is one of my favorites because I got to understand and see more parts of Sanzu.
Sanzu was shown along with Mikey. He was described as a “wild horse” which obviously was really interesting for me. He was a savage and it fed up my thoughts on him being a villain in the last arc.
Tumblr media
Then there is a part which resonated the most with me. Mucho mentioned how lost Sanzu looked, and since I barely knew about him I was eager to see what was going through his mind. He got himself in trouble often, which made me think that he probably was going through a hard time and since I have a savior complex I wanted to know everything about him to understand him and obviously discuss with other people about how I would help him.
Tumblr media
One of the theories I had about Sanzu and how he felt about Toman started to form when I saw how much he wanted to protect Toman’s reputation. He did not bare listening to other people bad mouthing the gang he was in.  In the last panel Mucho mentioned that Sanzu looked like he had no place to go, which is why I started to think that for Sanzu, the ToMan probably was his home, he had a place where he belonged. I wondered what kind of relationship he had with his family, why he looked lost.
Tumblr media
At this point I started to like Mucho’s character, since he seemed to be worried about Sanzu and also took him in. He took care of my favorite character and made him grow and probably be comfortable. Sanzu was a broken kid and needed an older figure to be around, he needed kindness and that was what Mucho was giving him. I think that Sanzu was genuinely thankful when Mucho showed how much he cared about him when he gave him his mask (which he never took off
at least the time they were together).
Tumblr media
Sanzu spent his time with Mucho, who welcomed him and treated him in a nice way, reason why Sanzu started to follow him around and did not hesitate to do as Mucho asked. As Sanzu said, Mucho was a big brother figure for him. And since Sanzu said that he was an only child I started to think that maybe his parents abused him as a child, I wanted to make my own theories on why Sanzu was “lost”.  They got closer to that point and Sanzu trusted him with all of his heart. Mucho even made Sanzu vice captain. Their relationship was important for Sanzu and I started to wonder why he ended up like in the Bonten future if he had someone who cared for him.
Tumblr media
Everything was going well until Mucho joined Tenjiku and betrayed ToMan. At first I thought that Sanzu had betrayed them as well, since he was wearing their uniform and was beside Mucho in some parts of that arc. But then I saw the expression he had when Mucho talked. There was something mysterious about his eyes, about the way Wakui sensei drew him, like looking at the reader (which was a good method to anticipate to us what Sanzu would do).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sanzu tagged along Mucho, he was given the opportunity to choose whether he would stay on ToMan’s side or if he would go and join Tenjiku. He still chose Mucho which made me think that maybe their bond was stronger than anything else, but I never thought that Sanzu had different plans. There is a timeskip after the fight with Tenjiku. Mucho had gone to the juvie while Sanzu was free. After six months Mucho was released and Sanzu went to pick him up. Mucho probably was wondering why Sanzu brought him to the place in which the Kanto incident (Toman vs Tenjiku) took place. What happened next was unexpected for me.
Tumblr media
Sanzu sliced Mucho with his katana, it happened so abruptly that I was astonished. I did not expect him to do that, so I immediately started to reread the other pages, trying to see if Sanzu had left a hint of what he was going to do. I did not understand him at that moment, and I was really surprised. I liked the feeling of seeing things that one might not expect, and Sanzu had done several things that I did not anticipate. I like what I do not understand, what is unknown and Sanzu was all of that.
Tumblr media
After a while I understood his reasons. He trusted Mucho, enough to show his other sides. I think that he expected Mucho to be as loyal as Sanzu was to him. The feeling of being fouled might have affected him a lot. Mucho was one of the guilty of the disbandment of ToMan, the moment he sided with Tenjiku Sanzu had felt like he was betrayed. Because of the conflict with Tenjiku Mikey decided that Toman would no longer exist since his sister died because of Kisaki (a Tenjiku member). Mucho was part of the reason why Sanzu’s home was no longer around and that is the reason why he killed him.
Tumblr media
Sanzu’s reasoning made sense to me. His ways of confronting problems and his feelings are obviously out of control, but I still liked him. I like the way that even though he does resemble a villain and his moral compass is completely evil, he still has his beliefs and things he considers important (such as loyalty). Even though we still don’t know what had happened to him to be that way, I think that he is really broken inside, which is another reason why I find him a fascinating character. What we have seen about him and his personality is really unique in the Tokyo Revengers universe, and it makes me support him and be a big fan of him no matter what he does or how he reacts to things. For me, these months I have been waiting to know more about him are what has made me keep engaged with Sanzu.

In lights of my previous answer to this ask about the fact that Obito never blamed Kakashi for anything, what a lot of people don't know is that Obito even blamed himself for not knowing about Sakumo's death when Kakashi started to change and shut off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What's weird tho, is that Rin seemed to know about Sakumo's death yet when Obito asked her she quickly changed the subject and didn't tell him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's confirmed again in this scene from her expressions and the way she gasped when Obito mentioned the white fang and when Kakashi lied about it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's sad that only Minato and Rin knew what was happening here and both of them didn't do anything about it.

@migila I don't know, is doing literally everything we see in Boruto counts as "remarkable"?!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All the advanced technology, trains, computers, internet, architecture, strong economy, getting rid of the corrupted system, getting rid of Root and all of Danzo's followers, helping Sakura open the first ever mental health clinic, maintain peace between the nations, making the entire fire nation the richest, not to mention that he has forbidden killing enemies so they can end the cycle of hatred and revenge... Literally everything you see in Boruto happened in Kakashi's reign, the day Naruto became Hokage, when Kakashi retired and handed Naruto the Hokage hat, all of that was already there so... đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž
I will never forgive that person who made the fake screenshot of the blow up the moon meme, the biggest misconception/misinformation in the Naruto fandom.

“Kakashi and Rin barely interacted”
Kakashi and Rin had off screen developments. The hands on each other shoulders is a sign of closeness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second picture is in the manga so it does shows that rin and kakashi were very close as teammates.
Tumblr media
And whenever obito was late to practice or whatever plans, it would give them time to talk to each other.
