I still love how easy of a time Maria had fighting Neo.

My sister says she saw some people saying it was out of character for Neo to do so poorly against an old, out-of-practice woman.

But really, it's because of Maria's preflexes.

Neo is amazing at dodging. She's almost untouchable against most characters in the series. But Maria's semblance allows her to sense where Neo is going almost before she moves. Dodging only works because you are not where your enemy expects you to be, and thus you do not get hit by your enemy. That is far weaker against Maria, who can tell where Neo is going and hit there instead, actually hitting her.
